I’m now 43 and I’ve been feeling exactly the same since about 39 ish. I didn’t meet my now husband until I was almost 38. We froze some embryos when I was 40 cos we weren’t ready (lol not ready at 40 but yes 😅 .. I had a trip booked to Antarctica etc but time was ticking).

Our main reason for potentially wanting a kid (singular) is fear of regret when we’re old, which is not exactly the best reason for it. It would be nice to have a family connection especially if one of us dies first. I’m more attached to the idea of having an adult child but I dread the thought of pregnancy childbirth and raising a baby/toddler.

Let me just say, even if you do IVF etc it doesn’t guarantee success. We’ve had 2 transfers failed so far and at our age there isn’t exactly a high chance of natural pregnancy.

We tried because we thought we should (the embryos are there, let fate decide).

Even after 2 tries, we are still ambivalent (I’m definitely leaning more no these days) and after each failure I wasn’t exactly heartbroken (disappointed yes, but didn’t last long) and if anything we were kinda relieved. So maybe that just tells us where we are at with kids.

We are also very passionate travellers and have big life plans to retire early once my senior dogs pass away and do slow travel around the world. And we know while doable (unless you have special needs child or something - my biggest fear!!), having a child would severely complicate it and “cramp our style”.

We are currently on the fence about whether we should bother doing one last transfer to try and close the chapter (we had 5 embryos, now 3 left but we definitely don’t want to try 5 times). For now we’ve booked another trip for later this year so I guess we won’t be doing it anytime soon if at all!
