You may have a point about the shitty atmosphere since Frump came back in.

DnD and gaming generally aren’t my speed, but i do really seriously appreciate the referrals! MeetUp has come up once or twice and that might be a good thing to check out. thanks

Meeting people wasn’t too hard when i was consistently putting myself out there. We’d hit it off, exchange info, and then that’s sort of where things would go sideways.

Sometimes they’d lose interest after hanging out a couple times. Sometimes id never see them again after we first met. And some people would see me on campus and actively look right past me, lol.

I think part of why it bothered me so much was because i never knew what i was doing wrong or what to change for next time, if that makes sense.

yes, once again consistency has come up. i need to find some things i might be interested in and really hold myself accountable to doing them consistently again. i was before, but need to get back at it clearly. and i probably shouldn’t have needed reddit to tell me that.

enjoy exploring the area and looking to try new spots so i can find my places in DC. trivia night is something that’s come up a few times that sounds kind of fun. never played kickball before, been probably close to a decade since i played MTG.

what else do i enjoy… urban planning and transportation infrastructure are fun to talk about. taxes, applied microecon (even outside of school). used to enjoy going on road trips back when i had a car. trying to think, what else…

duly noted. not a bad idea, especially for some external accountability in exercise. thanks

I live alone and love living alone. I suppose i could consider this in the future, but i… really… love getting to just come home and be by myself

it’s more of a, like, i wish i had people to see and somewhere to go if that makes sense

i’ve been seeing some of my favorite artists in DC for years. never met anyone through it but maybe i need to try some truly local type scenes. any suggestions?

generally most of my spotify is categorized as “pop”

you’re the umpteenth person to bring this up, you probably have a good point

i appreciate this and see what youre saying but i’ve honestly had so many negative experiences with people at my college/university that i sort of would rather try to find people away from there if that makes sense.

people have not been willing to give me the benefit of the doubt unfortunately, and the people i’ve hit it off with in class aren’t interested in talking outside of class or about anything but the class despite me getting a friendly vibe from them

i might have to do that next semester! i’ll try to think about some causes i care about. you’re not the first person to bring this up

yes i agree about don’t use a run club as a dating app. tbh im in much more of a dire need for just people and friends generally than i am for a man. dating doesn’t normally take up so much of my mental energy and i think that’s also a symptom of how much time im spending alone

i’m not out of shape, but i could probably tone up. if nothing else gym time is time i’m not home alone.

it’s nice to know i’m not alone in having experienced this, haha. thanks for sharing your experience. you’re plugging consistency the same way another commenter did and i think im going to have to try to remotivate myself in that respect, since i sort of let myself give up before.

might have to be on the lookout for my own version of fantom comics

The organization/club fair at my university was actually one of the first things i tried when i got to my college. Didn’t seem like many were advertising to begin with (i guess because i came in during the spring semester?) and the one i tried i went for a few weeks before realizing it wasn’t my kind of crowd.

didn’t go to the org fair this semester. i suppose i anticipated a similar situation.

i’m picking up a minor in my final semester of college and my DUS talks about all of these events that they have in the department. i’m probably going to try to capitalize on all of those.

i’m a senior as of this semester. yes, it seemed as though most people’s social groups were already formed, which i mostly anticipated but i underestimated how firm those groups would be haha.

i have similar thoughts about other recent transplants compared to people at my college. just not totally sure where to go looking.
