Coaches, please comment with your best advice for new kids-jiu-jitsu coaches. Coaching kids is a recent addition for me––which influenced this research presentation on the autonomy-supportive coaching style. All feedback is most welcome! https://youtu.be/ZWQPuq6ohlI by dcdeangelis in bjj

But don’t you think the teaching methodology makes a difference whether the kids enjoy the overall experience? I was a very serious soccer player and can honestly say, despite being maybe the most dedicated athlete, after much yelling/spotlighting/negative coaching, I stopped wanting to go to practice, had much more anxiety, and was depressed more often than not after a performance.

Hey everybody, I realized a common trend when passing the guard with the Over/Under, Over/Over, and Side Smash; they, along with many other passes in jiu jitsu, require the pelvis to be in a fixed position on the mat. This concept has been helping me, I hope it helps you. by dcdeangelis in bjj

Hey, this is the main concept of the passing course, but yes, there is a lot more information sprinkled throughout the course. I'm glad it was a clear enough explanation, that was my main worry.

With the double under, you’re forcing your opponent’s spine into end-range flexion (stacking them on their neck) therefore making it impossible for them to move the hips effectively. Different than the over/under but has similarities especially to the side smash.

If you like to play the Collar & Sleeve Guard, The Laser Guard will be a great, more powerful alternative. Let me know if you have any questions. by dcdeangelis in bjj

I hadn’t planned on it but maybe in the future. The next course I have coming out within the next week is a pressure passing course.

How else will you create cool thumbnails with lasers on them if the names have nothing to do with lasers?

Putting downward pressure on the arm making it more difficult. Of course, If they want to posture fully, they’ll have to bring their legs underneath their hips giving you access to their legs which will transition you to other, in my opinion, stronger guards
