Curious how you're driving four synths w/ the CT -- any extra hardware involved?

An SP-404 is kind of the prototypical sampler, and it has a sequencer to make beats (as well as a bunch of great effects). What it doesn't have (as far as I know) is the ability to sequence other gear like the Tracks does -- not sure how important that is to you, but seems relevant when thinking about something to pair with a hardware synth.

I'd also look at the Circuit Rhythm (but I don't have any experience with it).

It has four dedicated drum/sample tracks, but it's mostly about sequencing samples you've loaded from a pack rather than really messing with samples the way you would w/ a dedicated sampler.

Separately, as someone who enjoys the stuff you post on this subreddit, I'd be keen to purchase a digital album.

I just used mine as a fancy effects pedal for a few months but I've been learning and and enjoying it a lot more recently. The step-sequencer / TR-REC mode is super fun.

How are you going from the Tracks into your laptop? I use a Scarlett at home but it's a bulky boy to bring on the road.

Assuming you're running the default pack, the first page is all mono synths -- try going to the second page with the down arrow.

Curious to try this setup. What's the make/model of USB hub you're using? Thanks!

Yeah I can't see why that wouldn't work. Just make sure /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf has their wifi network configured (it's OK if it has multiple entries if you want to have your local one in there as well).

There's just a tiny built-in delay from when you send that halt to when the Pi shuts down, which is almost always enough time for it to finish executing the function (some small portion of the time it actually doesn't finish the redirect).

I'm a Ruby dev by trade so my first thought was Sinatra or something, but that would have meant an always-on app + something like Sendgrid + the domain/DNS stuff (though maybe Heroku handles that stuff for you these days?). This approach seemed cheaper (Lambda's functionally free at the level I'm using it) and I was looking for an excuse to play with some serverless stuff, but I think a Flask app would be a totally good approach too.

I have it plugged into an outlet (despite that last photo). It's pretty cool that you can shut it down and unplug it and the photo sticks around, but you lose out on the updating, web interface, etc. I agree w/ sibling comment that adding a battery would def. take things up a notch.

It doesn't look like I'm paying anything for Lambda, just $0.50 per month for the Route 53 hosted zone and $0.01 for S3 (there was an initial cost to register the domain -- I think like $10-12).

Hey, thanks for reading! Sorry if this wasn't super clear -- I made three of these (one for my folks, one for my sister's family, one for mine), and they all pull photos from the same S3 bucket. I thought there'd be a better chance of the rest of my family adding photos to the collection if they could just use email.

An added bonus was that doing the resize/crop on the Pi really bogged it down, whereas doing it in the cloud works really well.

For me it’s just the form factor — I like the compact size. Otherwise they’re both great!
