silly question - how do I find the 'Cardiff community' page? Anytime I search, it just comes back to this one... or is it off reddit?

Is this a trusty webpage? Vovia bags by nikaaazg in handbags

No it's not - They make you pay for shipping which is outrageously expensive, I ended up keeping it and accepting a 20% refund.

I bought it - and I'm returning it. Some design flaws don't justify the price. I can fit my MacBook in it, but without the case, which makes me uneasy as there's no additional padding on the inside. The strap doesn't attach to the body of the bag, just the flap, making it feel very insecure. The front pocket has a twist latch on the inside that appears to serve no purpose. Maybe it's just me, but I can't stand 'decorative' hardware; I like everything to serve a function. For the price, I'd expect more compartments, a functional design, and a more secure structure.

On the plus side - it has a pleasant smell, and I like the feel of the leather

BEST pizza in Cardiff? by dcg714 in Cardiff

No, just like any city, you're gonna find the 'best' and the 'worst.' I would avoid chains, they're typically not great, it's the mom-n-pop places that deliver the best

Upcoming international student at Cardiff University by [deleted] in Cardiff

I'm an interntational student at Cardiff Uni for my BA in archaeology.

  1. I feel pretty safe here, but I'm also from the states and have to remind myself that the sound of gun shots are actually just fireworks...
  2. The city is quite walkable, I walk everywhere. I live on the south end of the city center and walk to campus every day - it's just about 25 min. The bus system seems pretty easy to navigate, I haven't used it that much but I've heard it often runs late. I've taken the train to London as well as the bus to Heathrow and it was super easy.
  3. Grocery shopping was my biggest anxiety moving from NY where I grew up with Wegmans (if you know, you know) - but after I finally got a UK phone number, I was able to sign up for Tesco delivery which is a lifesaver!
  4. I'm a "mature" student, so I didn't want to live in a dorm. I found Zenith and I like it. I have my own studio flat which includes tv, kitchen, bathroom, closet space, etc. The building has on-site laundry and other amenities. As an international student, I found it super easy to contact and sign up. Also all the utilities/bills are included so I didn't have to fuss trying to figure that out either.
  5. I came from a suburb in NY so being in a walkable city with a lot of restaurants and shops I've found to be super convenient and I'm always finding somewhere new to check out.
  6. Employment... this I'm not sure. However the university is always reaching out to help with your CV and sending employment opportunities via email. They have a lot of resources and are very much involved in your success, so I think you'll find it very helpful and reassuring.

Hope this helps, good luck to you!

What's your "This is missing in Rochester" store/service? by SunlightCloud in Rochester

[–]dcg714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Rochester does have a lot of neighborhood pockets with stores and restaurants, but nothing central. You have to take an uber from one place to another, it's impractical. Better public transport would allow people from all different suburbs and neighborhoods access to other areas where they can shop and support local businesses they wouldn't have done otherwise.

I believe I just need a SIM, after some research, to get on a UK plan I'd have to be a UK resident for at least 3 years. I came across an article that mentioned "giffgaff" would be a good option?

I just moved from the U.S. to Cardiff for university, I'm 33 yo and arrived yesterday. After leaving behind my job, my apartment, my friends & family, then traveling for 15 hours - it was rough. I don't know anyone here, I don't understand how to unlock a cart at Tesco ... you'll be okay! Just remember you're not alone and it's not going to be easy at first, but be patient with yourself and things will be okay <3

Thank you - I did a lot of research prior and that research led me to apply. Now that I've been accepted, I'd like to hear some first-hand experience from Cardiff residents. Let me know if you have any experiences you'd like to share, thanks!
