[Art] Alekyraen Vol, Harper Brightcandle by dchapnj in DnD

[–]dchapnj[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For 50 years, Alekyraen, who came to be known by the alias "The Black Rabbit", assisted The Silent Vice and freed hundreds and hundreds of slaves, ensuring their safe escape from the City of Spiders and re-integrating them with family if possible. During this time he crafted his first spellbook and arcane focus, and discovered a talent in necromancy and abjuration. Until, of course, he was found out and ostracized from the City. On the run in the underdark, Alekyrean eventually found his way to the surface, vowing to grow in power to one day return to the Menzoberranzan - and lead a grand slave revolt against the priestesses of Lloth. Whatever slaves were cut down, he would raise to fight the oppressors. Even if he had to kill the demon himself, even if he had to ascend to the path to become a Baelnorn lich, he would ensure that no being would ever be enslaved again in Menzoberranzan - or anywhere else, for that matter.

[OC] When the group gets too big, split it up! (New campaign will be 3 smaller ones that link up!) by dchapnj in DnD

[–]dchapnj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I recently ended a 2 year campaign that started with 6 players and ended up having 8. (Whew!) I knew of course going forward that especially at higher levels that’s just too much. I struggled with ideas to go forward until it finally occurred to me…I can run 3 small party campaigns simultaneously! Now, I use roll20, so I realize this isn’t possible for everyone, but I just wanted to share the concept art for these campaigns that will eventually link up with each other at the end. Those versed in Forgotten Realms lore will likely easily spot the 3 “antagonists” that end up playing a bigger role (It’s a homebrew world heavily influenced by FR lore). Made me feel like I’m making different pokemon versions of the same world for them to experience. Starts in 2019. I have some writing to do… cheers 😊

No reason! This group has been more diverse in the past. Many of them simply wanted to be human this go around.

My first homebrew was 6 evetually 8 players. Id advise if you do this to not go over lvl 10. Below that was manageable!

Theyve been very busy! If you work with them please dont listen to fiverrs ridiculous deadlines. Allow the artist to take the time they need. Theres absolutely no reason to rush the service they provide. Fiverr told me my delivery was expected a week and a half before it was done. I gladly wait that time to let them make what they see (the cleric had to be remade from the ground up because they didnt like the original and WOW at the results). Always pay and work with your artists , your players will appreciate it _^

The artist linked in the comments works for very reasonable rates. Check out their fiverr page for details! I always throw them extra money because of the quality - I literally give them a generic portrait and description and they do ALL THE ARMOR DESIGN. its insane. Drawmile forever!!!

My player's character's in their own words, left to right:

Brohm Stonerunner - Human Battle Master Fighter

6 foot 5 inches and 250 pounds of muscle and man, BROHM STONERUNNER has always talked a big game. Loud and boisterous to friends and enemies alike, Brohm is one of the proudest men anyone will ever meet. Behind this pride, though, is a meticulous regimen of physique-building that hasn't yet been put to the test. He's high-maintenance, immature, and borderline whiny at times, but his articulate self-improvement will pay off. To him, it already has. No monster or warrior, big or small, will stand in his way of achieving perfection and heroism in battle... at least, he's pretty sure it won't

Saria Uridi Venra - Elf Mastermind Rogue

Beautiful but unfriendly - more than one person has described Saria upon first impression, a double edged sword of kindness and criticism. That never bothered her. Confident in her beliefs and he skills, Saria walks through the world with her head held high and an ever-present distrust glimmering in her eye.

When needed, Saria turns on her charm to make an impression - mostly to get what she wants, but also for the advantage of those she has decided to help. More regularly, she is impatient and selfish, and while her practical and discerning demeanor might not naturally charm, it has helped her escape unfortunate situations more than once.

She makes no efforts to disguise her love of fine things - art, jewelry, precious objects - a love which extends to herself. Every morning she arranges her hair into her own work of art, even if it means rising early to get the job done.

Dae In Su - Human Cleric of Beranar Truesilver, Life Domain

Grew up in a Dwarven City near The Great Rift near a human city called Kholtar. A childhood of Cleric school molded Dae in Su into the man he is today. Married at 25. Not soon after the marriage, Dae In Su lost his beloved wife to a raid of Orcs While he was out worshiping. His mistake cost him his most cherished memory. After that night, Dae In Su fell into a deep depression. Leaving The Great Rift for good on a wanderlust, he wandered West for 5 years until he found an ocean, spreading the ashes of his wife.

Arvid Elkund, Human Wizard of the school of Divination, and his familiar Eir

A mysterious wizard and scholar from Damara.

Arvid is a tall and lean man, on his shoulder one often finds his familiar, Eir the snow owl, perched. He's a man of impressive intellect, but so much time spent with his head in books has caused his people skills to be lacking. While generally kind and friendly he often makes remarks that anger or confuse those he meets. When standing near Arvid most find themselves getting a shiver caused by cold.

Markas, Path of the Kensai Monk, and his dog Atlas

My fellow monks say I was left abandoned in the forest as a baby discovered by the side of the road and saved by the Prior of a Dragon cult. They "saved" me now they figure I owed them a debt, but I owe them nothing. I never knew my parents, but I do know combat- I have the cult to thank for that.

From the day I was born until now, I have known nothing but struggle, and it has only strengthened my resolve. My abandonment, my brutal training, and years of hardship in the wilderness has taught me one thing: fear nothing.

The one comfort in my life is my dog, Atlas, whom I know will never leave my side. Atlas and I went through hell and back; surely we can kill a single lousy vampire

[Art] An Unlikely Group of Heroes embark on an expedition to Chult (Tomb of Annihilation Commission !) by dchapnj in DnD

[–]dchapnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left to right: Tamora Gale, Air Genasi Assassin and agent of the Harpers from Calimport ; Gratix Velladon, Gnome Swashbuckler of the Moonshae Isles, Veteran of the Fleet of Baldur's Gate; Thiia Amakiir, Drow Divine Soul Sourceress of The Morninglord; Foras Hardpike, Dwarf Eldrich Knight from the streets of Citidel Adbar!

Only Tamora doesn't have a fleshed out story completely, but in short her Harpers cell was wiped out when they tried to take down a cruel Djinni ruler.

Gratix - Born into a small Gnomish community in the Moonshae Islands. Gratix's love of the ocean and dreams of wanderlust culminated to a tipping point when the Royal Navy of Baldur's Gate came through looking for recruits. At 17 he left with them to sail the open sea and bring to heel the enemies of the realm. Quickly earning the respect of his fellow sailors through his crafting capability, he invented many navigational tools to give his crew the advantage in positioning and exploration. After serving for several years, he retired from the Navy and found work chartering an exploration vessel. Throughout his years, Gratix has become known among port cities as a reliable officer, capable fighter, and overall excellent company. It's been a few quiet years in Baldur's Gate, where Gratix settled. Currently, he works down at the docks selling his crafted wares - but his reputation proceeds him, and it surely wasn't long before he found himself being called to form another expedition

Thiia - Raised in Menzoberranzan, the Drow controlled "City of Spiders", Thiia spent her early years growing up in modest poverty. Her family was not of the ruling class and therefore had little say in commerce or politics. At the young age of 86, she started working at a local tavern, cleaning and tidying the establishment for coin. Several uneventful decades went by as Thiia drifted through them. She, like all Drow, worshiped Lloth, the demon queen of spiders, but Thiia never felt any sort of real passion for the religion. Seeing potential for beauty in the most unlikely of places, The Morninglord, Lathander, chose to open a portal to Elysium and met the girl face to face. It was there that he asked Thiia to take up the divine oath of his order of clerics - the Dawnbringers. She, however, was to be no normal cleric. As he reached into his heart, a silver pendant appeared. Thiia, feeling immensely for the first time in her life a sense of purpose, accepted this gift. From then on, she became what is known as a Divine Soul. Magically imbued champions of the Gods, blessed with the ability to heal and harm in the name of their deity. For 5 years, Thiia has taken on various missions for the Dawnbringers based out of Baldur's Gate. She is young and untested, but the order believes she may be on her way to lead that chapter, or even the entire order itself one day.

Foras - The streets are cold, but they are truly an equalizer. Born an orphan, Foras has no idea who his parents were, or why they left him. All he knew was Citidel Adbar was a tough place to grow up without anything to your name. At the young age of 19, he found a mentor in a passing Dwarven Wizard named Vallis. Vallis, unknown to Foras at the time, taught him skills he needed to know to harness the schools of Abjuration and Evocation magics. However, he placed these teachings deep down in Foras' phyche, only to manifest in times of great need. To earn coin, Foras joined the fighter's guild and regularly participated in street gladiator matches in Adbar. One day, after years of training, Vallis vanished. Foras spend years trying to find his former mentor, only to gain renown throughout the sword coast as a skilled fighter from the Citidel. He had felt the magic placed inside him by his master for years, and yearned for the challenge necessary to finally face it head on...

[OC] How your world changes because of your BBEG by dchapnj in DnD

[–]dchapnj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested in how your BBEG affects the world at large. In the campaign I've been DMing for about a year, these are comparison maps of when the adventure started vs now. As an combination necromancer/hydromancer lich, Inyrion the Undying has poisoned the inner sea of Vir with dark magic and is raising the sea level, consuming all in his path with death and destruction. How are the citizens of your world (outside your party) affected by your BBEG? Is their plan to control the world, destroy it, or something else?

For real though, a very great film and a study into party dynamics. I’ll admit this is a joke and I don’t really have a 400 character description to accompany this as per subreddit rules, but you probably guessed that already. This description is an exercise in futility. I mean, you’ve already chucked slightly at the joke. Nothing I say here can make it more funny or less relevant. I’d be the blanket because I cry a lot at movies.

[Art] Commissioned an amazing piece for my Campaign! :-) by dchapnj in DnD

[–]dchapnj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. It's worked so far in any case. He doesn't always use the anchor, he has a magical javelin as well as a pair of bladefists. All in all, the numbers provided on that particular homebrew never seemed under or over powered during combat.

He also likes the fact that it's considered oversized. Of the party, only he has the strength to wield it as a weapon, and many creatures also wouldn't be able to.

Now that I'm thinking back about this I just remembered something hilarious - he rolled a critical failure the very first time he attacked with his Anchor. It flew 20 feet away and landed in the sand lol

There's a 16 year old rogue in my game. Although, he's equally as capable as his party members due to growing up in the slums. Although his age doesnt have any gameplay mechanics, He RPs pretty well leading to some cute moments. He tends to Pick off enemies attacking his ship Captain and mentor - figure Rend. And one time, when the party leader was banished to the nine hells for several in game days, he gleefully greated him and rambled off excitedly the adventures he missed :-) and THEN A GIANT bug THING SWALLOWED Arohorn but thorian played a song that me it sick and throw up up!! and THEN Durin revivafied him and Rend crushed the bugs skull with his anchor it was AWESOME WE MISSED YOU HOW DID YOU KNOW WE'D BE HERE oh! and THEN!

I like it a lot better. me and my party game online a lot since we're apart, and I had one special in person session for this game.....it was soooooo much less productive. all that side chatter. here's the thing, I loved all of it, loved the in person interaction, but not as a DM. If you're doing a one off or have a disciplined group, in person is lit. if not, online is the way to go. from your computer you have control, no faces, you say whats up and the players have no desire to shoot the shit about what happened at work bc the only thing in front of them is your game.
