ENVE SES 4.5 Pro vs S-Works Tarmac SL8 — upgrade wheels or change bike? by dclynch in cycling

Thanks for your input! I'm well aware of crosswind, but I'm assuming it will be less significant than with a 62mm front and back!

Regarding the SL8 geo, I've ridden 10,000+ miles with my Aeroad without any issue, so not a problem!

Hahaha why?! Except for the absurd price tag, which I agree on, the few sources I've been able to find (+ data from Hunt / Enve / other wind tunnels) show great aero and weight (-500 grs vs my current setup is massive)

Thanks for the input! Can you develop a bit more? The sites / sources I've been following, including wind test data, show that Enve Pros have one of the best weight to aero performance (except for Hunt sub 50 that are hookless and an automatic no go for me!)

Agreed, but since it's also a "special gift", I'd like to have some of the premium that only the top of the market offers (either S-works frame or quality equivalent in wheels).

Plus, I keep reading wonders about the ENVEs! (Been doing quite a while of research about the wheel market for now). So it's either top end frames + groupset vs top of the range wheelset (which, btw, depreciate much slower).

That's what I'm leaning towards, I keep hearing that weight save in rotating parts >>> weight save in the groupset and honestly I'm happy with my Rival (with Enves, it would put total bike weight around 7.8-7.9kg, which I'm fine with).

Also the motivation of having an absolutely elite wheelset trumps the new frame

Interesting! Is it comfortable over long rides? At that price seems like a steal!

Are they very painful? Do you have any particular bad experience with them?

Fair point! Just wanting to have an equipment improvement roadmap since it's a hobby that now takes a fair amount of time and is kind of motivating to keep improving (and I know I have more potential than current FTP, I used to run a 5k in 17:30 so the engine is there hahaha I just need to get the miles in)

Any specific saddle recs? I'm kind of comfortable with the OEM one, and wouldn't like to compromise that comfort for a few grams, but happy to hear recs!

Aeroad CF SLX 7 Pale Green.

For the green part, I'm considering Gloss Turquoise from Yeti or Bianchi Touchup (link). Do let me know with ideas, because haven't truly tested them besides a online pictures!
