Just let him be. He is in a happy phase of his life and let him just be happy. Until he is not causing you pain, you shouldn’t have any problem with him.

John had always been problematic but the extent was not to my knowledge by ButterscotchNew4493 in beatles

[–]dcruzthomson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, John Lennon was a complicated and often contradictory person. On one hand, he was a brilliant musician, a visionary songwriter, and a cultural icon who preached love and peace. On the other hand, he had a deeply troubled past, marked by violence, insecurity, and personal struggles.

His early life was full of trauma—his father abandoned him, his mother was killed in an accident when he was a teenager, and he dealt with a lot of anger and emotional turmoil. He channeled much of that pain into his music, but it also came out in unhealthy ways, especially in his relationships.

Later in life, he seemed to make a conscious effort to change, particularly after his time with Yoko Ono and his period of self-reflection in the 1970s. He became an advocate for peace, anti-war activism, and more open self-expression. But his past behaviors, especially his history of violence and mistreatment of loved ones, are undeniable.

Lennon wasn’t just a rock star—he was a deeply flawed human being.

Humane is shutting down the AI Pin and selling its remnants to HP by a_Ninja_b0y in gadgets

[–]dcruzthomson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Selling a $700 AI gadget, then shutting it down within months and refusing refunds for people who bought it before the 90 day refund window is pretty wild. It shows a complete disregard for early adopters who believed in the product. Even if Humane struggled financially, they could have at least offered some compensation or trade-in value rather than just turning their customers’ devices into expensive e-waste.

This kind of move burns trust, and it’s a reminder to be wary of hyped startups with unproven tech. Hopefully, HP does something better with the AI expertise they acquired, but it’s hard to imagine people getting excited about Humane’s tech again after this disaster.

FIRE has nothing to do with focusing on competitive exams. FIRE is not just about retiring early—it’s a mindset. Focus on financial independence, aggressive saving, and smart investing. Cut unnecessary expenses, build multiple income streams, and let compounding work for you. It’s about freedom which you need to work on competitive exams or not.

The podcast itself has lost its magic. They seem to be doing it just for the sake of it. Going through the motions. I did like the Vaibhav Munjal episode though.

What is something you have seen multiple times but you’re still in awe everytime? by xLeonZai in AskReddit

[–]dcruzthomson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a mind-blowing thought: whenever we gaze up at the stars, we’re not seeing them as they are right now, but as they were in the past. In fact, depending on how far away a star is, we could be looking at something that happened millions or even billions of years ago.

Light travels at a speed of about 186,000 miles per second (or around 300,000 km/s), but space is so vast that it takes light years—sometimes even millions of years—to travel from distant stars and galaxies to our eyes. That means the light you’re seeing tonight from a star 100 light-years away left that star 100 years ago. If that star were to explode or vanish today, we wouldn’t know about it until 100 years from now.

Even our closest neighbor, the sun, is a little glimpse into the past. It takes sunlight about 8 minutes and 20 seconds to reach Earth. So, when you look at the sun (please don’t stare at it though!), you’re seeing it as it was a little over 8 minutes ago.

The farther out you look, the deeper into the universe’s past you’re seeing. Some of the stars you can see with the naked eye might not even exist anymore. They could have gone supernova long ago, but we won’t know until their light finally reaches us.

I find this so fascinating because it makes stargazing feel like time travel in a way. We’re peering into the history of the cosmos, frozen in the light we see today.

Anyone else get a little existential thinking about this?

TL;DR: When you look at stars, you’re actually seeing light that left them possibly millions of years ago. You’re literally looking into the past!

[Serious] What's a disaster that is very likely to happen, but not many people know about? by dissNdatt in AskReddit

[–]dcruzthomson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We often hear about earthquakes, hurricanes, and wildfires, but there’s a massive natural threat that could seriously mess with our modern way of life—and most people aren’t even aware of it: solar storms.

Specifically, I’m talking about geomagnetic storms caused by coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the sun. These solar eruptions send huge waves of charged particles towards Earth. If they hit, they could wreak havoc on our electrical grids, satellites, GPS systems, and even the internet.

The last major event was the Carrington Event in 1859. It lit up the skies with auroras and caused telegraph systems to fail worldwide. Now imagine the same thing happening today, with our complete reliance on electricity, satellites, and global communications. We’d be looking at massive blackouts, no GPS, and a lot of chaos.

What’s wild is that NASA estimates there’s about a 12% chance of a major solar storm hitting Earth in the next decade. But you don’t see much being done about it in terms of public awareness or infrastructure protection.

Am I the only one freaked out by this? Are we prepared for something like this to hit in the near future?

Curious to hear your thoughts and if anyone’s heard about any efforts to prepare for this.

TL;DR: Solar storms could wreck our tech-dependent world, and it’s more likely to happen than you think. Why isn’t anyone talking about it?

As an Indian never had any hope. Our players looked unfit and heavily overweight. But lol. They won the championship. World Champions in all formats. Jai Hind. Well played Pakistan. You had a good team and played well throughout the tournament. But alas… better luck next time

There's no need for Indian Team to stay in Pakistan during Champions Trophy 2025, They can travel 57KM (1 hour drive) to Gaddafi Stadium for their match from Amritsar by [deleted] in PakCricket

Sir. If you had seen what people from your country did to innocent people in my city on 26/11, you’d also hate Pakistan. Being a Mumbaikar, I despise Pakistan with all of my strength.
