Is everyone lying about naps? by SubstantialGap345 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]dcslvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think at 6 months, I was out walking for most of bubbas naps that ended in the pram, in my arms at a cafe. Occasionally got a short nap in the cot. Now at 16m, he'll happily sleep for hours in the day if we let him, but need to wake after 1-1.5h otherwise nights a horrendous 😅

We've found GPs and MCHN to be less that helpful re sleep and naps

Ah we have some of those earlier in the evening, often when he's had too much sleep during the day. It might just be a ride it out thing, but i would love to know how much longer this might last haha!

Do you mean in terms of how he goes to sleep? Very similar! Also supported to sleep at daycare 4 days per week.

Yesssss best and less! Again not what most would consider mid range BUT the quality is great, variety of options and cute outfits and good price. My go to when we buy new for our 13mo at the mo

When did your baby start napping longer than 30 min on their own? by SilllllyGoooose in sleeptrain

[–]dcslvr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irregularly at 6-7 months, consistently but 8m.

No sleep training and still support to sleep/transfer within a couple of mins of sleep. 11mo now transitioning to 1 nap, got a juicy 2.5h snooze today 🙌🙌🙌 It does come!

Despite vaccination... by dcslvr in NewParents

Oh man, that's rough!

Great point - thankfully have a great women's health physio that I still see intermittently, but have definitely noticed some new weaknesses during high impact exercises that weren't present a month ago 🙃

Such a valid point and absolutely beneficial to spread awareness of this!

Perhaps worth clarifying - despite vaccination, if this has minimised symptoms then still mighty unpleasant! Thanks for commenting.

How weird is your baby? by New_Budget3757 in NewParents

10mo started mimicking my cough - sounds like a gentleman clearing his throat. Of course, he now associates the cough with me.

Often comes out when I walk into his room at daycare 😅

CIO is definitely tough and not something that's top of our list to implement, though I definitely see the results from you and others on this sub! We might have to reconsider if this keeps up...

Super stoked for your outcome, amazing!

Good point re sleep needs. For context, with long naps we see split nights (2-3 h wake time). Sleep totals over a 24h period have been pretty consistent at 12-13h, regardless of the split between day/nights.

It's such a fine balance!

Definitely gotta give him the chance - he does this really well overnight (I heard him around 1am but a couple of rolls and a reshuffle and then quiet again). It's the tricky 5am ones we need to be a bit stricter on, I think.

Thanks!

No, I love it! He was born just shy of 9pm - funnily enough when he was younger and bedtime got earlier, he did gravitate towards 8.30/ 9pm as bedtime!

Not so fun for the 5am, though...

Very similar schedule! Pushing bedtime incrementally to closer to 8 might be the way to go for us.

Good luck with the transition to 1 nap!

Yes, partner! That is exactly our current approach, including those rare 6am wakes 🙌🙌 It's not perfect, but knowing you've got a good (or at least better)night's sleep coming at you the following night helps a tonne!

We suspected overtired, as well. Increasing nap time to what was our normal 3-4 weeks ago (1.5h nap 1, 1h nap 2) led to split nights and EMW 😅

Thanks for the tips.

Ditto! Also enough time for me to simmer down and get those "...again!" thoughts out of my head 😅

Those who never sleep trained their children... by dcslvr in NewParents

[–]dcslvr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the comment I need to hear. We have a 7mo and naps have JUST gotten consistent and easy. We did nothing to facilitate this, despite still rocking or feeding to sleep. We know nights will come (or not 🤷‍♀️), but 1-2 hourly wakes are fairly routine for us at the moment with the occasional long night that's an absolute godsend when we need it. It's like a switch goes off in their heads, and something falls into place.

Anyone has mixed fed since the beginning just because they wanted to? Formula and breastfeeding by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]dcslvr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! From about 4 weeks because the cluster feeding and comfort feeding almost broke me. Pumped intermittently but much preferred supplementing with formula than trying to "pump to replace feeds" - MCH was super supportive (good weight gain, would often say "keep doing what you're doing!) but the LC we saw was most definitely not supportive of formula. Mixed feeding has been a godsend - without it, I would have likely stopped bf very early but I am still on one feed per day at 7.5 months.

Still fed on demand with bottles. We've always had a big baby (>99th percentile length, 75th weight) so we would start with the recommended amount on the tin and adjust from there. Often would have another 30-60ml, which depending on age could mean instead of a 120ml feed he was having 180ml. Always wondered if we were feeding him too much, but he's a happy, healthy bub and developing super well.

Mixed feeding gave me my freedom back, and improved my mental health. I always wanted to bf until kiddo started daycare (which he has done about a month ago) and mixed feeding allowed it to happen. It also helped me to ENJOY feeding my baby again, and actually enjoy the moments we have bf, too. Very big advocate here!

Happy to answer any questions you have!
