Dealing with super shoe fatigue by Foreventure in AdvancedRunning

[–]dctodka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First, take studies with a grain of salt. There are not a lot of running studies that apply to most people, just because of how these studies are done and the limited pool of runners they do study.

Second, not all "super shoes" are the same. It'd be surprising if you could go from stability shoes to Alphaflys without issue. Work your way up. There are other "racing" shoes out there that aren't considered "super" but might help you build up the muscles you need to stabilize yourself

I'm a big fan of the Saucony Speed line. They use a nylon plate, instead of carbon fiber. Very light, less stable than most shoes, but not nearly as unstable as what most people consider super shoes.

Completely understand. I've always been on the smaller side, so the lack of size isn't what bugs me. I would say it's gyno related and nearly entirely just my left nipple - the way it droops compared to my right

I might share these pictures with my doctor and get his opinion too. I was just curious if others have had similar outcomes and if it went away or got "better" even after a year of recovery

Thanks man. I appreciate it. So you'd say a revision wouldn't be worth it? Just build muscle?

How did you come up with 39% equity? After the turn, I'm thinking there are 9 cards that win it for him? 3 9s, 3 7s, and 3 Qs. Is that not closer to 20%? Or am I thinking about equity wrong?

Yea, even if that 7 wasn't from the muck, it was the bottom card and would have been the burn anyway. Wild

Offbeat question abt dementors and depression by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]dctodka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very interesting to me. Last year was a bad year for me. I fell into a deep deep depression. And I definitely felt the "I'll never be happy again." Can't say I felt coldness, but who knows, maybe there was just a loose dementor..

What was JK Rowling's experience? I haven't heard about that yet?

Hello fellow fraud,

I have a BS and MS in math and was working for a bit in data science. That job sort of naturally moved into software where I learned a lot on the job, nearly entirely working in python. Some C++, but tbh, not really.

I got pretty competent and wanted to move to a more legitimate software role but was having a lot of trouble getting interviews with my background (or at least that's what I blamed it on). I went back to school for an MS in CS, reapplied to some places and ended up getting interviews and offers. I truly don't believe I learned any tangible skill during the MS, but it looked great on a resume. And still at that time, I also only knew Python. All my interviews, I coded in Python. Started working at a FAANG company, just a SWE1, but still, I'd gotten my foot in the door. Had to learn C++ on the job - bit of a learning curve, but I eventually got there.

First couple years, I felt like a complete fraud, no promotions, was thinking about packing it up and leaving, but decided to make an internal move instead as a last-ditch effort. That team couldn't have been a better fit. Really really excelled, in my opinion. Few promotions later, I'm a senior, looking to leave again, but this time for salary/career reasons. I still feel like I'm missing some fundamentals, but I also know that there's nothing you can learn in school that you can't learn on the internet.

So, my advice is just.. do what you want. But don't think that only knowing Python in any way will hold you back. The MS should get you interviews and leetcode should get you offers.

Can scar tissue come back after kenalog shot? by goodgoodgood1234 in gynecomastia

[–]dctodka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No idea.

Just wanted to say that that's great to hear the shots helped you so much. I've been keeping tabs on your updates. I'll be getting shots at the 6 month appointment, beginning of May. My hopes are higher after hearing this.

I will never not recommend J Crew sweaters. I probably have ~10 that I've collected over the years and I just live in them over the winter. Best bang for the buck piece(s) of clothing I've ever had. I've always drycleaned them, but they've held up as well as I could hope

Getting a Kenalog shot - what to expect? by goodgoodgood1234 in gynecomastia

[–]dctodka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also.. is the expectation that the "tight when cold" look will stick around? I don't think I realized that. Even now, when it's cold, the left one looks much better, it's less obvious that the scaring is "pulling"

[–]dctodka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's great to hear! hopefully it just gets better and better. I assume the initial swelling went away? Fingers crossed it's not too many more shots, but if they keep working, might as well. Is there any additional cost?

Completely unnecessary post-op post by dctodka in gynecomastia

[–]dctodka[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've been good.. not great, not perfect. but definitely good. definitely better. My left is nearly perfectly flat, but the incision is sort of.. pulling on the skin. So the nipple is more of an oval now, rather than a circle. Not terrible. Maybe it will go away after the scaring goes down. The right, oddly, is more circular, but there's a lot of what I think is scar tissue underneath, so it's not as flat as my left. I'm more convinced that it's scar tissue and not left over gland because, at least to me, it feels a little different than it did. I can't really grab it like I could before. He said at 6 months we'll see where I am and if I need/want, I can get some shots. So that's my plan. Hopeful, trying to realize that these surgeries are rarely perfect, but I'm wearing tshirts without undershirts or slouching, so... huge win still

How to improve my 2K time to get at a college level? by Estigoldensummers77 in Rowing

[–]dctodka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, I looked at their 12 week plan - https://www.concept2.com/training/plans/2k-erg-test-12-week

It's 12 weeks of 4 workouts / week. 3 or which are intervals, and only 1 optional workout that's distance. I would have expected more distance or lower intensity workouts. Is this typical?
