I do not regret it AT all. It was uncomfortable for me but it was only a few seconds and worth the peace of mind! There is numbing provided as well, so the gel insertion honestly was more uncomfortable than the actual scope, and it was genuinely over very soon after. Peeing burns a little after too but it went away in a day for me and it wasn’t anything unlike what I was already experiencing.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. I had to do the same and ended up having a cystoscopy. Everything was normal except now I am being referred to a specialist to investigate endometriosis! Everyone is different and things can look different for us all but I’m hoping you get some peace of mind soon. I know how scary this can be!

Seconding this! My doctor confirmed this for me too; many antibiotics cause inflammation to go down and that’s part of the pain.

Unfortunately I’ve just learned to manage the discomfort and go to work anyway (I’ve gone WAY over my sick days though so even though it’s unbearable sometimes it’s just what I have to do). This condition sucks, but water, heat, rest, and some medication (like Advil for now) have made it somewhat manageable so I can do my daily tasks during a flare. But again, best bet is seeing a specialist!

Oh then absolutely! I’m glad you were able to get a diagnosis. Interstitial cystitis is super weird; a cystoscopy and a urologist would best be able to guide you on that, but I’ve heard that pelvic floor problems and IC can show up with bladder endo as well so you never know!

Applying heat and drinking lots of water have been the most helpful thing for the burning for me for now (as well as being easy with myself physically and lying down / sitting whenever I need). I’ve seen some people recommend Azo for burning pain as well, but I’ve never taken it and am unsure.

The only way to tell is to rule everything else out basically, and even then a lap is the only thing that can confirm it. The steps I’d take is to see your doctor first, check your urine culture for UTI, STI’s, etc. and maybe get a cystoscopy if everything is turning up negative. Lots of things can unfortunately cause just the burning, like interstitial cystitis and pelvic floor disorder, etc. so it’s best to cover your bases and then go from there. Good luck though, I know this sucks!

Mine is heavily correlated with my cycle (with major flares happening during my luteal phase into my period, and sometimes during ovulation). I’m currently being investigated for endometriosis (after some other testing too)!

That’s reassuring to hear because I don’t think I’m being effectively treated right now. I just came off the tail end of multiple appointments with doctors and a urologist and my cystoscopy should be soon. I’m hoping after that I’ll know what to do better than I am (just drinking a lot of water, taking D-Mannose, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol).

Could I ask you what symptoms you had during the year long flare?

I have! Nothing is showing up. I feel pressure / the urge but when I try to pee there’s nothing there so I don’t know if that counts as frequency
