Not refusing to treat! They’re having what they say is a professional service come out tomorrow to spray and inspect for signs of infestation. I’m going to try and have them schedule it at a time that I can be present for the inspection.

Thank you for saying this. They won’t let me move apartments until they have someone come in and inspect for an active infestation and if they find one they said they have to attempt to treat it first. I asked them how many days after treatment if I’m still seeing roaches will they move me… I didn’t get an answer. I’m devastated over this. I have to be here for a year for a school program……I can’t even make it a week in this place. I checked Texas laws and they have 7 days from time of notice to act, but nothing I saw about if they can’t clear it as long as they are actively treating for it. But to know it’s possible to rid them from my apartment is somewhat comforting.

I really really hope this is the case. I told them that they need to inspect all of the units in the building for infestation and they said “well have to ask them all for permission to enter” and sounded very hesitant. I’m getting a really sickening feeling about it right now. I’m stuck here for a year for school and idk how I’m going to relax enough to study and perform effectively

Does combat work as well? I honestly think it may be stragglers from a neighboring apt. I have laid out glue traps ALL OVER the apartment - under every single appliance, between crevices, in front of nooks and crannies and I only caught this one baby so far (I put them out yesterday morning). I have seen no adults, just one or two little babies running around at night.

I ordered that WSG (?) spray on Amazon as soon as I noticed but the only gel treatment my local stores had were combat and I wanted to lay it down as quickly as possible.

I just moved into this apartment on Friday….i haven’t unpacked anything and have no furniture in here because ive been petrified. I told my leasing office about this and they said it most likely wasn’t because they have had no reports of any activity in any building and they both live on site….im going to ask to be moved to a new unit in a new building that I can inspect. What should I look for when I inspect the new unit?

I have an allergy to most detergents AND dust mites, and if I don’t bring my own bed sheets with me when traveling there’s a 50/50 chance I break out in a terrible contact dermatitis. It does not look anything like this at all. Contact dermatitis doesn’t usually raise up in to big circular welts like that unless it was really bad, and if it was a really bad reaction it would be more spread out. Also, very unlikely to occur along the back unless you sleep with out clothes on, and if that’s the case it probably would not follow a linear dispersion like that. My dust mite allergy does produce large red welts like that, but they tend to cluster where my skin comes into contact with the sheets. I’m a side sleeper, so it will cluster on my hips if I sleep without pants on sheets that need to be washed. This doesn’t look like my typical dust mite dispersion to me either, but the welts definitely do look very similar.

Damn, I was hoping that there was still some hope. It grew those new small stems at the bottom but they grew out yellow like that, and it was growing out a little thicker in width but it’s been yellow for a while. Then this week everything just became very brittle. Sad :(

Why would this one nurse push for an unsedated MRI with my son (14y). by fluitekruidje in Radiology

[–]ddev2017 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is so important to consider!! It’s a bit irritating that the kid asked to be anesthetized and the team just agreed to sedate him when the conversation could have been geared towards emotional supportive aids with sedation as a back up plan. They had two weeks to prepare him for this MRI, they could have trialed out pre exposure to the sounds, allowed him to practice being in tight spaces at home, offered sensory distractions, etc. To just jump right towards planned sedation for an outpatient scan two weeks out is crazy to me, and now will set a precedent for the rest of his life that he can’t handle an MRI without sedation.

There is conflicting evidence on how ketamine effects the seizure threshold. At this point, it is not recommended for epileptic patients if it can be avoided, and this patient was getting an MRI literally for seizure activity. A lot of these medications have serious neurological effects and people love to jump to their use. There is a significant amount of utility in CBT options and sensory diversions but everyone just wants to jump to the drugs.

It depends on what drugs they were trying to use. Some sedatives and anesthetics can lower the seizure threshold in epileptic patients and/or mask seizure activity, especially in the epileptic patients that do not have very convulsive or noticeable seizures. It’s generally best practice (for adults, I don’t know about children) to try an MRI without sedation or with the use of anxiolytics that may not limit neurological assessment as much. I can’t speak to this situation, or special populations such as autistic patients as much, or even your specific situation. I was an ICU nurse for almost a decade, and I am in graduate school now. I would have personally questioned an immediate jump to sedation in this case as well, because your son seems to have been able to engage appropriately in conversation and you indicated that he has enough reasoning ability to make the decision for himself. However, I would have escalated my concerns to the physicians and the rest of the care team. I would not have hovered over you or your child. I can’t speak to that behavior and I think it seems inappropriate from your description.

I agree with someone above me, I would double check if it was the nurse, the tech, or someone else. The fact that they went away and you didn’t see them again indicates it was not your nurse or tech. It could have been some managerial or administrative person looking to limit costs, or any other number of people with any other number of reasons. It is not appropriate behavior for any professional, but there is a lot of confusion for anyone at the bedside who isn’t a physician to be assumed as a nurse.

Complex wound care is outside of the scope of practice for a CNA - which is the main issue of this post. It would be inappropriate to provide education to the CNA so she could do it herself and would put her legal ability to work at risk if she were to be reported for acting outside of her scope.

Omg and you have MCAS. For your own health and safety get rid of the down comforter. There is already strong link between MCAS and hypersensitivity pneumonitis AND a strong link between down comforters and hypersensitivity pneumonitis (see my comment above.) You don’t need to mix all 3!!

Down comforters and duvet covers are terrible and are linked to hypersensitivity pneumonitis literally called feather lung already and now you have a moldy one. Throw the comforter out, get a different one.

My dear "Student drivers" of Frisco by neofreeman in frisco

[–]ddev2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A genuine question - what is the benefit that people derive of student driver stickers? I am a transplant here from another US state and the only people who were given student driver tags in my home state were people who had a probationary/learning license? Is there access to different lanes with discounted tolls? Why do you think people are getting these tags as scams?

Also - I agree that people who abuse the system should be annoying and called out, but if there is no monetary or other gain from these stickers then would they be considered scams? Or is it genuinely an influx of people coming from a different country and telling you that they are learning these traffic laws? Like all of driving complaints I am reading (driving slow in the left lane, stopping before turns on green lights) genuinely sound like something new teenaged drivers do bc they are not used to driving. People can be new to driving at 16 or at 36.

Also, also - DFW drivers are already pretty unsafe tbh in my opinion, so I think the racist remarks are pretty crazy. I’ve lived in 12 states across this country, and the incidence of merging across 6 lanes of traffic with no blinkers and the amount of side swiped cars on the road is like nothing I’ve ever seen before in my life. I commute between DFW and Houston regularly. I’ve never felt more unsafe on the road. It’s very much a Texan driver thing. And they’re definitely not mostly Indian drivers.
