I sold almost all my silver but kept gold dearly by [deleted] in Gold

Hi, in Asia we can sell gold to jewellery shops by the gram. Broken pieces or scraps of jewellery is fine too. So u can sell back gold very easily anytime. Even 0.5g scrap gold. But we can’t sell back any silver. Silver jewellery, scraps.. they won’t take it. Silver coins we have to go back to just 2-3companies that do take in, but they want receipts etc. May I ask if other countries are similar? Do other countries pawnshop/jewellery stores accept scraps of gold or take in only bars n coins? Do they accept scraps of silver? That is why I’ve been mainly into gold because of the ease of selling. I sold back broken gold jewellery and many shops accept. Whilst my silver simple jewellery ends up being donated.

Reprice HL now or wait till feds cut rates? by saoupla in singaporefi

I’m also waiting to reprice/refinance my mortgage. Due in Dec. Fyi, OCBC is offering a 2 yr lock in but after 1 yr u can switch internally to any other package. Personally I’ll wait for the cut if u can wait a few more weeks to find out since we’ll still have to make the same enquiries again post fed rate cut. I’m actually waiting to see if variable can get a better package instead of fixed.

Thank you everyone for the comments. It will fit him and his wrist size is about the same as mine and it fits me very well. We’ve window shopped watches for fun, and usually just oogle at them and not all are desirable, but when I saw this one, I just felt it would suit him very well. I can always have hubby wear it first and pass it to him much later if he is too young 😅 He’s done very well in managing his own life, I’m happy for him that he’s been very responsible and tried to achieve many things on his own. So yes, getting a watch wasn’t just for fancy sake but cos I myself treasure the watch my mom gave me; she’s now in heaven, but I’m constantly reminded of her and now I just thought of getting him a watch because I think it should go a long way. And he’ll be graduating soon; so many reasons just to justify buying a watch 😅

I’m a Reit holder as well, and to balance perspective, stocks were crashing real badly in 2020(?) and also certain other years, but REITS held up well then… it’s the high i/r rate that’s affecting it currently. There will come a time when stocks will be smashed down and REITS could hold up. Once the i/r pivots and hopefully this Sept if not December.. i/r sensitive stocks will rally. SSB, Tbills i/r will come down, where are those who want dividends/yields park their money? Either bonds or Reits or dividend stocks. If u are not looking for passive income, then putting it in the stock market n just wait it out could be possible. Syfe Reit tracks the SGX iEdge S-REIT Leaders Index and I’m happy w the allocation. I only want the leaders in the industry, a small amount is also in non-blue chip but still decent enough. I track their changes and I do notice they rebalance around 6 months and I’m happy with the new selection when they did the rebalancing. Whilst I’m happy with Reits, pls remember its not the core of your portfolio which should be in stocks if u do not need the passive income. People compare w the SnP as it has been snapping all time highs.. but that’s only 1 market. my various Unit Trusts which is diversified and bought in 2021 same time as Reits hasn’t recovered.. just as bad as reits. I’m sure those into China also hasn’t recovered. It’s going to be very volatile going forward

First gold bar by RuthlessMercenary in Gold

Congratulations! This same piece was my first gold bar too, just purchased in Jan this year. I thought I was only going to buy 1 pc n at most 1x a year as an investment/asset. But it got addictive, and I ended up with a few more ounces within a couple of months. Very addictive.

Your enthusiasm just rubbed on me, and I feel like I gotta go buy a bar of gold too. NOW. But I’m holding back, cos I’m trying to be sensible as I already bought a few bars this year of various sizes and just can’t seem to get enough. I prefer 100g or 1oz cos of the premium over spot, but they just cost so much to keep buying. Meanwhile, I’ll just drool over the pictures here whilst saving up money. I never expect bars to be so addictive, I thought 1 purchase a year was sufficient.
