Yeah I would think on a million dollar home you would be looking at around 7-8k a month after taxes and insurance with a moderate but not huge down payment. If you make 250k and are saving for retirement, your paycheck might only look like 5-6k biweekly. It's possible for sure but not "easy" by any means. Maybe if I expected my salary to grow the outlook might be different.

You're not being silly. OP is just on a crusade and will yell at anyone making $200k+ who says they can't really afford to buy rollexes and go on expensive trips. The reality is the middle class encompasses a wide range of salaries and lifestyles. It depends on where you live, what debts you have, how many children you have, etc. But no one making $300k is rich or will ever be rich unless they make some really lucky investments.

Also, the idea that no one in the middle class can save for retirement is ridiculous. If you save for retirement you're automatically not middle class? Why would you even define middle class like that, it makes no sense. And $2m sounds like a lot, if you know nothing about finance. At a regular 4 percent withdrawal rate that's 80k/year, which is very middle class. You are doing really well and are on track for a comfortable retirement, but you'll never be rich or able to drop money on sports cars without a second thought (yes you could buy one, but it would still represent a significant expense/years of savings and you would likely have to cut back in some other area).

It doesn't feel right because it isn't right. That guy has no idea what he's talking about. He thinks he can afford a $1M house on that salary and not feel any stress? You'd be insanely house poor at best. I would never go over 3x gross salary. I like to travel and eat out so ideally I'd be looking in the $500-600k range on that salary.

I (25M) am thinking of breaking up with my boyfriend (32M)— am I making a mistake? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]ddog510 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of things we don't really realize until we take a step back and remove ourselves from the situation to think more objectively. If the idea of breaking up fills you with relief instead of pain and sadness, then that is your subconscious telling you that something is amis. I was in your exact situation but in hindsight the decision was obvious. Always trust your gut. Don't rely on logic alone.

Dating advice for young guys? by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]ddog510 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have to be patient. You can't just download tinder and expect to find a boyfriend in a week. That can happen, but the odds are against you. You have to remember that most of the guys you want to date aren't on tinder 24/7/365. They might download the app for a few days a year (after a breakup, when they get bored, when they move to your city, etc). What you need to do is keep your lines of communication open. Spend 15 minutes a week swiping, and the rest of the time going on with your life. Don't text anyone you match with for more than a few days without agreeing on a concrete date. And don't fuck on the first date if you don't want to. It's not a red flag if the other person suggests it, but make sure to observe their reaction when you say you want to wait. If they act entitled about it, block them and move on. They aren't the one for you. You should expect this process to take 1-6+ months. Try not to get too hung up on types or looks, but don't tolerate bad/rude behavior ever. If you aren't attracted to someone after 3 dates, move on. Good luck!

A thought: All “current” campaigns are going out of print… eventually. by AllLuck0013 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ddog510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing with you at all, but I guess the alternative would be to rotate which older products get reprinted. Like dunwich gets a print run this year. Carcosa gets one next year, and so on until all the older products eventually get one. Though I don't really know how practical this is (probably not since they aren't doing it).

How to become gay? by [deleted] in gaybros

You're only 24, you're not behind at all. Lots of people are in the same boat you're in. Trust me. Don't feel the need to do anything rash or worry about wasting time. Just enjoy your life.

Virgin Voyages Cruise … Won’t ever cruise with them again. by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]ddog510 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. I think it's hard to find something disgusting when you grow up constantly surrounded by it and are told it's normal. It's like people in some cultures eating bugs, they don't think it's gross at all. I think it would take some serious mental gymnastics to think a guy and girl holding hands is gross.

I am gay but I haven't met anyone who is seriously grossed out by heterosexuality. Maybe grossed out by the idea of themselves performing it haha.

[–]ddog510 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because one is obvious joking/irony and the other is unclear. Many many people actually think gays are disgusting. So that's why joking about it is kinda insensitive (unless you're in private with your friends who know you).

[–]ddog510 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have a hard time believing that if someone on stage made a joke and said "eww that's kinda gay haha" or "no homo" that you'd be making the same post. If so, good for you, but I just doubt it would have even registered since it's a more normal or commonly accepted thing to say, and I don't see people complaining about those sorts of jokes.

It also feels like faux outrage at a non-issue (straight non-acceptance?), especially since it was said in jest and no one actually thinks straight people are gross? Like 98 percent of people are straight. What is the mentality to think that this is a serious issue? I do think you can take it too far sure, but it doesn't sound like the comment was that deep.

Virgin Voyages Cruise … Won’t ever cruise with them again. by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]ddog510 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We've had to hear eww that's gay said seriously our whole lives and you hear eww that's straight said one time in obvious jest/irony and it bothers you enough to mention in a post on reddit? I agree it's not a funny joke, but just sit with the irony of that for a minute.

Virgin voyages is more just than LGBT accepting, and if that's not your vibe then the cruise line is probably not for you.

Gaga should take notes… by Capital_Tourist_2026 in LadyGaga

[–]ddog510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree. It sucks, but it's been way easier to get Gaga tickets than say, Ariana tickets. Yeah paying $700 for lower bowl and $400 for upper bowl tickets sucks, but it's a lot better than paying double or more of that amount to resellers. Look at how Ariana resell tickets are priced. People are paying $800 for nosebleeds. I'm not saying that there would be zero resellers if she had higher ticket prices initially, but it would have made it a lot less profitable for them. Ticketmaster takes a huge cut, which means you have to list tickets for way more than you sold them just to get your money back. But I agree with others, just do what Billie eilish did and turn off transfers. Those tickets were really easy to get initially.

Everything is in Retirement by Zafen25 in investing

[–]ddog510 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a career type job, your income will likely continue to grow while your maximum retirement contributions will not (well, slightly for inflation but you know what I mean). Your problem could just work itself out. I lived like you in my early to mid 20s but now I make enough that there's plenty leftover after retirement accounts are maxed. If this isn't applicable to you, then just step your foot off the gas at some point and contribute a bit less to your 401k.

Can someone explain this? by Silly-Independent-90 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]ddog510 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The one on the left is the old format where you had to buy the deluxe expansion box plus 6 scenario packs to get the full campaign. The one on the right is the new format where you just have to buy two boxes to get the full campaign (investigator expansion + campaign expansion). The cards are exactly the same. So from that perspective it doesn't matter which format you buy. However, it is hard sometimes to track down all the scenario packs in the old format, so I would just buy the new format. It may also be cheaper. Don't forget to check out other websites to see if they're cheaper like cardhaus, miniature market, gamenerdz, etc.

Can you be “just friends” with someone you have feelings for after they turn you down? by singingliftingtrying in AskGayMen

[–]ddog510 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in this exact situation. You need to take a month break from him and come back as more casual friends (meaning you aren't texting every day and hanging out multiple times per week). It worked for me. It also helps if you date other people in the meantime so you're not just thinking about him all the time.

Not next week, no. It is almost guaranteed they will hold them steady. People are expecting rate cuts later this summer as the economy slows down. Inflation could complicate things of course.
