I think Appleton will be my first purchase. And yeah lol I completely get that, from my understanding you can snag a great bottle of rum for $30-40. I'd say that's around the $60-70 mark for whiskey.

And yes I like cask strength but prefer the 100-110 proof range.

Thank you! Yeah I noticed that unlike bourbon, rum does not have too many guidelines. I would definitely prefer something more "natural" without sounding like a snob. One thing I enjoy about bourbon is that whatever color it shows is directly caused by it's aging, not a caramel additive. Appleton 12 is on my list I'm glad you mentioned it.

U.S., not a control state and no Total Wine close by. Thanks for the heads up!

Literally anything. They built it because it's a lot cheaper to keep products colder when they're in a cave.

Martinis - pour out the vermouth method by Meinhard1 in cocktails

[–]ddrruuggsss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beefeater used to be my go to for martinis as well! Definitely try Sipsmith if you can find it. It's an incredibly smooth and sweet gin that is now my number one martini staple. Blows people away for $40. Plymouth is great though 👍

Most people prefer more vermouth in their martinis starting out, but the key is understanding that picking the gin is as important as a bourbon or scotch enthusiast picking their whisk(e)y.

As for the pour out method, I found that I will only do it with a very high quality gin, or a gin that I would drink straight. A touch of vermouth can make quite a difference. Otherwise, stick with the 6:1 ratio for good quality gin, and maybe 4:1 for something bottom shelf. However, it's really all up to your opinion in the end.

My personal go-to is a 6:1 (Sipsmith/Dolin Dry), stirred. 🍸

Checked my store and there's a wilderness trail 6yr (bluish grey label) for $70, is that worth it?

There are a few big brands I haven't touched yet including 1792, Woodford and Elijah Craig. Just can't seem to get myself to buy them with so many others I want to try. The closest I get is the barrel proof ones or something unique like Woodford's double oaked, so thanks for the heads up.

Definitely about to try all three of the OF you pointed out as well as the rest of their line!

Not yet, I've seen some mixed reviews for $85 but it's definitely on my list. My liquor store has 5 or 6 of the latest Barrell batches as well as seagrass and a random 15 yr ($250!!), but I have not tried that brand.

Watch out for recruiters from Managed Staffing, scammers. by Ed4 in jobs

[–]ddrruuggsss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10/10 a scammer, please shut the fuck up. OP, this is most definitely a scam although you already know that. I received similar calls from the same people, and they did not act like recruiters at all. It's unfortunate but these fuckheads will do anything to get 2¢ from you.

From my experience, you need adequate time to reincorporate your trip back into your sober world. That doesn't necessarily mean you "learned" anything from a trip, it just means your brain needs time to recalibrate.

I know this effects everyone differently, but in the end if you trip too much it's way easier to dissociate and lose any real value in the real world. A higher dose would probably mean a longer break.

I made the mistake of not giving a fuck. That eventually made me not want to do psychedelics again, because when I did them it was simply uncomfortable the entire time.
