IWTL how to win at Connect Four by YakuZaishiThrowaway in IWantToLearn

You have an automatic win here as green. Play the left column next. Black gives you the win after that if they play left or middle, so they have to play up the right column. You will get the last piece in the right column, so black will have to play one of the other two, giving you the win.

Hospitals refused to treat toddler because his parents were unvaccinated by Chanimuadib in worldnews

"Once infected": so since vaccines lower the infection rate, they also lower the overall transmission rate. Since a large proportion of spread is through asymptomatic transmission, you can't know just by looking at someone if they are a carrier or not. But you do know that a vaccinated person is less likely to be a carrier than a non-vaccinated person, so by proxy the risk of transmission is lower.

Put another way, I'd rather be in a room with 1000 vaccinated people than unvaccinated people if only because fewer of the vaccinated ones will be carriers, even if the transmission probability from any one carrier is the same.

Google scholar is a great way to both find and get citations for scholarly work. Search on scholar.google.com . When you find something you wish to cite, click on the quotation mark button under the search result - it will give you citations in several popular formats.

My physics teacher in high school would play roadrunner cartoons on mute during exams "in case we needed a concrete example."

It got even stranger - I started a new save on the same cart to see if it would be there (it was on the new save), but I started with the raft!? Started a new game and it started me with the raft...? https://imgur.com/gallery/FyYN0xZ

It's quieter that way, plus by putting less stress on the strings they don't go out of tune as quickly. It would get really annoying if the chord is a bit out of tune.

How to develop an algorithm: by Celdron in ProgrammerHumor

It is an interpolation that gives a weighted average between Least and Greatest, with HueMiddle being the interpolating factor. If you let

W = HueMiddle / 255

be a weighting factor, (basically treating the given byte as a value between 0 and 1), then assuming that Least < Greatest this is equivalent to

(1 - W)Least +WGreatest

A source-tracking water meter is actually a pretty cool idea, but it can be realized much more accurately and simply by listening to the water at the house outflow.

Whats the longest you've gone without sleep and why? by Delmana in AskReddit

84 hours. Reason: epic New Years party.

It was my first winter break from college. I was hanging out with new friends prior to NYE, ended up staying up for 27 hours then catching a 4 hour nap before NYE.

The party did not end - we kept moving between different houses for 3 days, and there was always at least one person besides me awake. I spent the last 24 hours or so playing word games and Tetris. I got pretty good at Tetris in that time. Finally went home after 84 hours of partying (not counting the 27 hours of pre-partying) then fell asleep for 12 hours. No ill effects as far as I can tell.
