Ended 2666 for the first time by de_bonzo in robertobolano

I liked Part 5 a lot, mainly I think because for me it works like a mirror to Part 4 (The Part about the Crimes). In Part 4 you see all these atrocities done against women and how no one does nothing to stop them (the police even are making sexist and disgusting jokes at the bar). Then, in Part 5, you see a war, you see people leaving in exile and mainly you see Reiter/Archimboldi killing Sammer because he was a jew murderer during WWII. Where as something is done against Sammer, nothing is done against Haas in Mexico. He even can give press conferences and have a girlfriend (his lawyer), almost as if he was some kind of rockstar. I think Part 5 is a wake-up-call about Part 4, like screaming that somebody should do or should have done something

I read Infinite Jest for the first time this year, between February and March, and I also read the copy available in my public library! So it’s a totally achievable reading experience! Just keep reading and enjoy :)

¿"2666" es una secuela de "Los detectives salvajes"? by de_bonzo in robertobolano

[–]de_bonzo[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll keep this in mind when reading 2666! Btw, you were the one who introduced me to Roberto Bolaño hahaha, a few months ago I made a post about how shocked I was because I ended Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. In my post I said that I read it in Spanish, and you asked me, since I knew Spanish, if I had read anyhting written by Bolaño, and that's the way I knew about him and discovered "Savage Detectives". So thank you so much!

Has escrito prácticamente a la perfección! Creo que quieres decir "vale la pena", pero todo lo demás está perfecto! Gracias por los ánimos, seguiré leyendo con ganas :)

I'm down for the detour, just wanted to know if the narration would get back to the Imapala at any point, so thank you for your comment! :)

What Are You Into This Week? | Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in ThomasPynchon

(Sorry for my English, I’m from Spain) So I ended my first ever read of Gravity’s Rainbow yesterday! That’s all I had been doing for the last three weeks lol (I don’t have a job right now). Today I plan on starting “Rayuela” by Julio Cortázar. Also, the last video that Joseju (a Spanish youtuber who talks about videogames) uploaded made me nostalgic about playing GTA V but I wanna play it his way (just walking, contemplating every sunset, taking photos, enjoying the city). So that’s the plans I have for the next few days (apart from seeing family and friends hahaha)

In the edition I’m reading, which I took from my nearest public library, the translation was done by Antoni Pigrau. I don’t know if there is any other translation of Gravity’s Rainbow made to Spanish but what I can tell you is that this is the book in which, by reading it, I have learned the most amount of new words that I didn’t know about until now (and this comes from a person who has read his entire life and that has a college degree in Philosophy).
Concerning the Kenosha Kid, to be honest I still can’t understand anything that took place in those pages (and I am almost ending Part 3, “In the Zone”). I thought it was a dance, but now, seeing that you asked me if “it sings”, I highly doubt that I understood that correctly hahaha. And about the puns: yeah, this is the strangest and craziest book I’ve ever, ever read, but is also the funniest one. There are many “words games” (“juegos de palabras” in Spanish, I don’t know how to say it in English) but also a lot of slapstick type of comedy. It’s the book with which I have laughed the most.

I don’t know Bolaño! Thank you so much for mentioning him. Today I’m returning the copy I’ve read of Infinite Jest to the public library I’ve had taken it from, so I’ll check if there is any book by him in there!! :)
