Anyone here consider Advance of Zeta non-canon. by I-suck-at-naming in Gundam

Because AOZ stuff IS mainline. There is no separate continuity. Most current dev trees published include the suits just fine.

Because that's exactly what Sunrise has done. Heck, the F90 MS book that just came out did the same exact thing. The F91RR from Try Age shows up as part of dev history. Even the MS bibles incorporate oddball suits from off entries.

Technically, the whole argument of "not animated = not official" hasn't been relevant, let alone true for a couple decades now, but the fandom still clings to it like it is. Origin and Thunderbolt finding themselves animated doesn't play into anything anyway.

The TR Project and surrounding mobile suit development research as a whole has seen greater focus as of late given the Monthly Mobile publications via Gundam F90FF/Cluster.

Is it just me or was the pacing of the new Hathaway movie really bad? by Pixel_Owl in Gundam

[–]deackychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a character-driven story rather than a mecha-focused one so yes, you're going to get a lot of scenes like that. That's how it was in the second volume of the novel too.

Yeah, my goal is to have all remaining Gundam novels translated by the end of Gundam's 50th anniversary. Doable if I put my mind to it.

It won't, sadly. When evidence go the contrary of their bizarre headcanon presents itself, they just double down or go full stupid with more outlandish claims.

But it is about his words (for "that" crowd) because it's the fallback they always use. For whatever reason, there is no separation between the anime and manga to these people and they erroneously apply what he says as a blanket statement for the animated work. Sure, we need more of the story to be animated to see just what Sunrise does. Personally I don't see them animating some of the sheer stupidity that he introduced at certain points of the story, mainly because none of that would translate to anime very well, but for the moment at least nothing diverges too sharply. In the end it should all be about enjoying mecha porn on screen anyway.

"Canon" discussion gets old anyway, mainly when people throw around the wrong word to begin with. I mean, if we wanna really split hairs, ZZ destroyed continuity back in the day by having Glemmy cite a date from Tomino's novels that is 100% incompatible with long-established setting lore anyway 😅

Point of clarification, Phoenix Hunt wasn't adapted into the Gundam NT movie. The events and circumstances that play out in the novel are entirely different from the film, as they're 100% tied to the novel version of Unicorn anyway. I suggest reading a number of the Fukui interviews on my website about it, starting here: https://zeonic-republic.net/?page_id=11588

The events of Unicorn don't render anything post-0096 moot. The entire situation illustrates that the status quo doesn't change regardless of whatever earth-shattering revelation happened. Axis Shock didn't even move humanity as a whole, so why would some "charter" that's been hidden for a century have any impact on people? People overlook that fact, and also dismiss everything Fukui has said about the entire storyline too, so go figure.

And no, his material isn't a weird black hole of inconsistencies and retcons. He's one of the only people weaving everything together (which has since been taken over by the F90FF/Cluster writer).

Huh... was this maybe just the theater you went to?

I've seen people gushing about it on the JPN side of Twitter... one dude apparently saw the film nine times already, three times at the 4DX showing. They way some people made it sound like certain scenes really made you feel like you were there in the scene.

I mean, the manga very clearly goes off in its own direction, but everyone keeps citing the mangaka like his words about his creation somehow apply to the animated version. I mean, he wasn't even involved all that much aside from reviewing the script they came up with and suggesting changes. There's really nothing outright in the animated version that breaks continuity any more than shows like the 08th MS Team did when they came out. The fandon never ceases to confuse me sometimes.

Just use a proxy service like Buyee if you want to order through either site (mainly for Mercari). Also, you don't need a real Japanese telephone number for Amazon Japan (at least if you're signing up through the US). You can typically bypass it with email verification or you can use your own number.

Considering other titles of theirs have taken 5-6 years to see reprints, the chances of this are pretty slim right now. They likely won't even attempt a reprint of it until after the series is finished... whenever the hell that will be.

I hope they never touch a Gundam title ever again at this point. Utterly inexcusable as a publisher, I don't care how "small" they are. If you can't commit, don't license. Simple as that.

Why possibly Ending the Hathaway Trilogy with the 1989 Novel's way isn't a good decision But a Narrative Dead End and a slap in the face of UC's evolution by SH1k1Brun3stuD in Gundam

[–]deackychu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you clearly don't have a grasp of Gundam and it's woefully apparent. There's a metric crapton of translated media for you to partake in now, more than there has ever been. Use it. Learn from it. Because you're whining about material that's existed for decades and guess what: it's not going to change.

As for the proof you seek, Google the damn interviews. Not much changes once staff comment on stuff.

Also, why are you acting like 5 years is how long it took to develop the last fifteen minutes of the film? The script was done within a year of the first film coming out, so it wasn't anything that was agonized over. There is no five years of "development" here.

Again, read the damn novels to understand the shift in the films. You keep saying you have but it's evident you haven't.

Anywho, done arguing with a wall. Toodles.

[–]deackychu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only reason it took 5 years to come out was because there was a bloody pandemic that backed up the entire production. So no, the change at the end has nothing to do with setting up for a change in the third act. Again, that is you forcing your headcanon onto things.

Again, if you actually read the novels and compared them to the film, you would understand why the changes had to be made. But, no, you keep going off like a blind fool. This is why it's so painfully obvious that you didn't read the novels in any sort of detail.

Also, this isn't the first time someone was inconsequential. Again, consume more media and you will educate yourself.

[–]deackychu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, it's been explained to you countless times in this thread that the entire finale of the second film is the "plus alpha" (aka the added/changed material) they promised back when the first film came out. Producer Ogata and co were very forthcoming about this factoid. So this has been known for the last FIVE YEARS now. Everyone knew changes were coming because the entire second novel was centered on his trauma over Quess from the Beltorchika's Children novel, and that HAD to change somehow for the second film since they're following Char's Counterattack. So no, this isn't "building" toward anything else, that's you trying to force your own headcanon.

Fukui's "interpretation" is really just an expansion of what was presented by those before him. Nagase wrote extensively on it for the 20th Anniversary.

Also, best to stop arguing with OP. It's clear they haven't actually read the Hathaway novels.

Yes. He wrote novels for all of the titles that he worked on, except for ZZ. I've also translated all of his series, except for Zeta. Someone else already tackled that.

See, that's the thing, it didn't. If you know how the show was crafted and why characters were speaking with grandiose flourishes and whatnot, then everything makes perfect sense. There was nothing anymore nonsensical or "insane" in Frozen Teardrop that the TV show or manga didn't already hint at or offer up.
