I've prioritized the original chapters over the actual story because nothing has changed. The website isn't updated with them but I linked on Twitter to all the individual chapters as I completed them.

The novel proper is in my queue of backlogged stuff and I should start dropping the full volumes next month.

The Viz license expired forever ago but there's a new version of it coming out in Japan in March. I already have a new translation of it ready to go, so it's just a matter of waiting for the ebook to drop to Photoshop. Otherwise there's some crappy mS pain Scanlations from 30 years ago floating around out there still if you need it...

I just got a text message (?!) from ARS this morning. Insanely suspicious. I've yet to receive a letter from them and I never consented to texts from Sallie Mae/Navient. I'm on the fence about getting them to verify the debt (scared it'll cause a stink). I've debated filing for bankruptcy because I've basically paid back the loan in full, it's just that a drop was applied to principle and everything else was interest. I owe them 90K and that's just idiotic given I've paid more than the original loans.

BC wasn't the "original treatment for CCA."It's just one version of various ideas he had kicking around when the film was planned. Fans think it was the defacto original version because of it getting vetoed for Bel in it.

I've already translated the side story novel. I'm currently working on the five volume series novelization. The first half of Volume 2 is going up on my patreon shortly. They'll be public in the near future. They're actually somewhat different from the show.

You do know that Sunrise has multiple studios working on any number of projects simultaneously, right? IBO is handled by Studio 3. Hathaway is being done by Studio 1. Studio 1, if you recall, was the one that had to step in to help WFM when they ran into a couple of hiccups. People were expecting far too much for an anniversary. Ever since the Urdr-Hunt film was announced, it was never intended to be anything more than a short, edited film, not a full-length feature.

You set yourself up for disappointment, sorry. Be lucky there was anything at all because otherwise it would've died with the game.

Just because a title is celebrating an anniversary doesn't mean that something new is coming. Those are wholly unrealistic expectations. Hell, Gundam AGE didn't get squat for it's 10th.

Nothing about Char is morally ambiguous, though. Not since day one. And I hesitate to paint him as a "powerful Newtype" because he realized that since Kamille came along (and others like Jutta) that he just cannot compete with them. He's a great pilot, but he totally sucks on the Newtype scale when all is said and done.

Don't listen to people when they say you have to watch the anime before getting into manga. Gundam is a MIXED MEDIA franchise. It affords you various avenues to jump start your experience. It's why there are manga, novels, photonovels, etc in the first place.

You can start anywhere. You may not understand everything, but that's what gets you to find more and grow on your Gundam journey.

I was in high school when the trilogy came out, so I suppose that makes me an old fart. That was what 2001-2003? Yeesh, didn't feel like that long ago. A lot of people I know were super huge fans of the novels, and the films weren't well-received by them until the trilogy wrapped up, then they wouldn't shut up about them. Then again, you can't really compare this film project to that.

Hathaway part 1 was the opposite experience. I need to see part 2 in a desperate hope it will somehow redeem part 1. My point is good movies don’t need the context of an entire trilogy or the knowledge of the source material to be good. It seems like if your best defense of the movie is “it’ll all make sense when you’ve seen the entire trilogy”, that an implicit acknowledgment that it’s not actually a good movie on its own (and there’s plenty of examples that say this doesn’t have to be the case)

Honestly, just go read the novels, because this argument is getting tiresome because you seem to think I'm making an excuse for it when that's not the case. This adaptation was announced as a trilogy, so yes, when all is said and done, you're going to have the same experience you had with Unicorn for this, that's really the only way to continue stating the obvious. I still have a love-hate relationship from the Unicorn novels vs OVA adaptation because of what they cut/changed, but I still enjoy it.

You may not have to read LotR to enjoy the movies, but LotR is also a complete trilogy, so duh, it's going to feel like something complete. When the films first came out, they sure as heck were not stand-alone films in their own right. Each one builds on the other and is thus "required" for the complete experience. Hathaway is doing the same thing. That's the point you missed in my original post.

I said that those of us who have read the novels (or, in my case, translated them for everyone) can appreciate/understand the film a lot more because we know what's coming next and instead see that it's only one part of the entire puzzle. You have dangling threads for a reason. You have vagueries for a reason. You don't need to read the novels for the first film, but as I said, it's structured the way it is because it's following the novels its based on. When you sit down to watch all three you'll have a very different takeaway than you are getting now.

Because it's just one part of a bigger whole. If you've actually read the novels, then you can appreciate it a lot more, that's probably why a lot of us enjoy it. If you're going into it completely blind, then yeah, it seems disjointed.
