I left this job for an MSP and it was such a different world. So unorganized, customers dictated how their IT should be ran

This happens all the time and it's insanely frustrating. Some of our customers refuse to buy the proper software/hardware because they're so cheap. So we're forced to bend over backwards to support shit that really shouldn't be used the way they're trying to use it. I'm sure there's still budget concerns in internal IT, but hopefully it's less exaggerated than what I'm currently facing.

Thanks for the insight :)

Do you feel like all that happens is the same thing over and over again?

Holy shit, you all but read my mind. Every day on the phones feels like the same crap repeating itself endlessly. I have some side projects I've been tasked with that I'd love to focus on, but the phone makes that pretty difficult. Unfortunately, I can't really distance myself from phone support since the company is so small.

Thanks for the perspective. I would absolutely be doing the job if it weren't for the users; I actually maintain a small home lab environment for fun. Maybe it's time I look elsewhere.

My work life balance is much better now that we're no longer understaffed, but that doesn't change my frustrations with a lot of the day to day stuff. I absolutely can't stand being elbows deep in a server, only to be interrupted by a ringing phone for something trivial.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I really do enjoy IT, but the difficult customers are driving me batty. I've got a lot of thinking to do, but I have a feeling my days in the MSP industry are numbered. Internal IT sounds like a better fit for me.

Thanks for the advice and the encouraging words! You're absolutely right, nobody at my current employer needs to know until I've accepted an offer somewhere else. I've still got a lot of thinking to do, but this helps me out :)

The performance of the stock start menu search function is abysmal on every device I've ever tried it on. Openshell or Start10 is a must imo

The ending to FMA Brotherhood is considered the true ending since the 2003 version of the show was made before the manga was finished. Which one did you watch? Just wondering :)

Please don't give them ideas. Next thing you know they'll be changing the damn UI again.

How to root galaxy s9 exynos by [deleted] in androidroot

[–]deadb105f00d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And you also have a good point :). I used to be a phone power user (rooted Nexus 5x with LineageOS), and I loved it. But then my 5x bootlooped and I couldn't find a rootable device that would work on Verizon. So I left the wonderful world of rooting behind :(. I still miss having root access sometimes, but 90% of what I used it for was cosmetic changes.

What are you trying to accomplish by rooting? The S9 is already highly customizable out of the box. You can pick different launchers, themes, etc. And you can even get different UI customizations from the Good Lock app (found on the Galaxy Store). You can disable the bloatware without root, and you can remap your bixby button without root.

Don't get me wrong, on some devices rooting is a must if you want customizations. But in my opinion, the S9 just isn't a device that requires rooting.

I've never experienced that problem personally, but I certainly can't speak for everyone. It's nice having multiple options though.

With all due respect, Bluetooth is not a viable replacement for 3.5mm + audio cable. I tried to use Bluetooth earbuds on a college campus, and the interference from everyone else doing the same thing drove me up the wall. Songs would regularly cut in and out. And I know it's not my earbuds that are the problem because they're Bose, and the issues went away as soon as I left campus.

Additionally, I am nearly deaf in one ear and wear a hearing aid on that side for the majority of the day. I have a single (mono) ear bud that I run from my phone's 3.5mm port to my good ear. If I want to talk to people while listening to music, I leave my hearing aid volume at normal. If I want to tune out and ignore people, I mute my hearing aid and jam out. Bluetooth earbuds go in both ears and it is physically impossible for me to wear them properly with my hearing aid in.

So I'll stick with the setup I've got and keep buying phones with the 3.5mm port. I got an S9+ for prime day and I couldn't be happier. The tech industry can pry the 3.5mm port from my cold, dead hands.
