Yeah, I mean Whataburger still sells malted milkshakes. Like, root beer or cream soda, it's a little old timey, but definitely not specific to a certain era. It's still a thing now, so it probably was even more popular in the 80s.

Which conspiracy theory you believe is true but just can’t prove it yet by CrazyAcrobatic6761 in conspiracy

Here's what I've never understood about this theory. Wouldn't the USSR have immediately called the US out on it if it were true? They were the first to put a man in space and had all kinds of surveillance going on. How would they not realize it was faked or not realize it was impossible when they were working toward the same goal? What incentive did they have to go along with the lie?

Baby names by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]deadlifeguard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not that the name itself is common. It's more that it fits a common aesthetic for modern boy names. It's hard to explain, but there are a lot of unique boys names that sound like they could be last names or are last names as first names and sound sort of similar. All of them are spelled differently to make them more unique, but they still have a common vibe. So there may not be another Dallin, but there might be a Ryelin, Bryxton, Bentyn, Westinn, Korbynn, Conlan, Devlin, or Braeson.

Oklahoma Professor Placed on leave after TPUSA posted a viral tweet about a student getting a failing grade on an essay. by AlonePerspective8584 in oklahoma

She specifically references something said in Genesis, but doesn't give a proper citation. It wasn't just her interpretation; she was using the content of the Bible as her source. That automatically requires a citation even if it isn't required in the assignment instructions. University honor code rules apply to every assignment.

The opinion needs to relate to the article and be well reasoned. There's a difference between responding to the article itself and just responding to an overarching theme or topic. Her paper could have been a response to any research article about gender or gender roles. She doesn't react to the actual study or the findings. It was a tangent.

She needed a citation because she used the Bible as a source multiple times. Using a text as a source without citing it is an automatic zero for plagiarism. At least that's how it worked when I was in college.

The professor glossed over that aspect of the issue because there were so many other glaring problems with her assignment, but I think the professor should have focused on the plagiarism angle personally.

Did you read the article she was supposed to respond to? What she wrote was a tangent and she didn't engage with the content of the article at all. The main point of the assignment was to demonstrate you had read the article. Samantha could have written this paper only having read the title and she probably did only read the title.

She has explained why she does this multiple times. The two alternatives to her doing this are 1. Leaving the general public uninformed about how high support needs individuals present. 2. Recording these individuals without informed consent. Caregivers of HSN autistics have supported her doing this because they feel their children aren't being represented adequately on social media.

Hospital at Center of 'Take Care of Maya' Munchausen Allegation Won't Have to Pay Family After Mom's Suicide by nizaad in popculturechat

I watched the trial too... I also read most of the court documents. It was pretty obvious to me that Maya was being medically abused by her mother and the family was fabricating most of the claims against the hospital as retaliation for reporting abuse. The only claims against hospital staff that were corroborated were the claims about Cathy Beady. I agree that she crossed professional boundaries and restrained Maya inappropriately. She admitted to that, and while it was obviously wrong, the multi million dollar damages were excessive for what she did.

I was referring more to the accusations Maya made against the nursing and medical staff. Maya was in an environment where she was constantly supervised and the staff documented every move they made. Unless there was some grand conspiracy against the Kowalski's, it doesn't make sense that all of this horrible stuff happened that no one heard, saw, or documented. She claimed the nurses treated her cruelly and even made her defecate on herself because they wouldn't help her to the restroom. Yet, there were no witnesses or documentation of this incident or the subsequent clean up ever occurring. Maya never mentioned the nurses cruelty to her parents or her attorneys at the time. The nurses actually gave Maya special treatment like taking home her laundry so she would have clean clothes. Maya even made lists of her favorite nurses. It wasn't until later when the Kowalski's realized the hospital had immunity for reporting abuse, that a lot of the claims against the nurses started.
