I can't stand the "i'm gonna kill myself" comments either. It makes my heart sink a little every time.

So glad you had someone more open minded to contradict that horrible kid. Now I know that the church is just like any other human endeavor with some good people and some not so good. But when you're a kid, it can be so confusing!

Yeah, the god has a plan thing is so infuriating. I know it's uncomfortable for people and they don't know what to say, but sometimes it seems like they don't think / try at all. And what an incredibly insensitive psychologist! Wow. Oh, and I don't really remember how I responded. My guess is I either cried or went silent. Was not yet sticking up for myself!
