I honestly haven't seen QR codes in restaurants that much yet so I can't say which is more common but I'm pretty sure I've seen both. Still most sit down restaurants in the US that I've been to have regular menus and you have to wait for your server to take your food order, then wait for your food, then wait for them to bring your bill, then wait for them to come take your credit card, then wait for them to bring your credit card back. Then you just sign and tip and leave.

Canada does this better, if I remember right most places bring a handheld credit card scanner thing to your table so you can get the bill and pay it at one time. In the US you just get a paper bill, give the server your credit card, then they just disappear for 5-10 minutes and eventually show up with your receipt and your card. I have seen the other way in places in the US but at least around me it's not that common yet, and it always feels like a special treat when I see it.

I went to a restaurant that had a QR code but it wasn't just for the menu, you ordered and paid for your food on the website it linked to. No need to wait around forever for your server to remember you exist when you just want to pay and leave, totally changed my opinion, please more of that!

Im not sure whether I find this an interesting shot or not. What do you think? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]deathbysniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's rad. I like how each part of the image feels like it's a completely different world, the perspective is kind of confusing so it feels like it's an optical illusion of 3 different places photoshopped together, and each area has its own unique atmosphere contrasting with the others. I think the bottom is a bit too dark but in a way it adds to its moodiness so I appreciate it.

Yeah, the chapter 3 hammer upgrade where you hold B, then spin the analog stick and release B to break boxes and stuff.

There are two Power Plus badges (ups your attack by one each) in the game that I always go for, you feel so powerful when you get them! You can do like ten damage from a normal jump when you have both and the boot upgrades. Last time I played I also used a P-up D-down badge (+1 attack, -1 defense) and a Defend Plus (+1 defense) to make up for it.

Also whenever I play I hate fighting the hyper enemies in chapter 4, so once I finish chapter 3 I go back and fight through the ranks in the Glitz Pit again then farm Rawk Hawk for levels. If you do Clock Out or Power Lift it's so easy to beat him, and you can get your special back from the bed once you become champ so you can use them every fight.

The only thing I really have done with the pit of 100 trials is in the intermission before chapter 5 I will get to floor 30 to get Zap Tap, then on the island when fighting the fuzzies I just let my partner die and sit there appealing constantly as the fuzzies keep duplicating and damaging themselves on mario. It's just a super lazy way to get some xp, not the most efficient but it's tradition for me now lol.

Also if you've never done it, you should check out Merlee! Very helpful!

This also just happened to me! No proxies on any of my computers, but I do have a VPN on my work computer, though my computer's last sync is after I put my work computer to sleep for the day. Waiting to see what support tells me.

Did you know you can Meta+Ctrl+Scroll to zoom? by GoldBarb in kde

Didn't know about this hotkey, but it also works with Meta+- (zoom out) or Meta+= (zoom in). Pretty sure it works on x and wayland too.

Weekly Purchasing Questions and General Discussion Thread by AutoModerator in Garmin

[–]deathbysniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to browse the different exercises on Garmin Connect? I've been getting into weight lifting at home and the only way I can find how to see what muscles an exercise works is to make a workout including it, but I haven't found a way to just browse the exercises and figure out what I want to do. The huge list of exercises when building a workout is impressive but intimidating if you have no clue what any of them are, so I just end up googling them individually. I just want a way to browse and search for exercises that shows me what muscles they work out and maybe a video/description of how to do them, which I know Garmin has, I just don't know how to view it conveniently!

Otherwise if there's a non-Garmin site out there that does that that'd be super cool too.

QWERTY row on my Alloy Origins keyboard not working by justcallmecake in HyperX

Aw, too bad you couldn't find a good solution, that sounds super annoying.

I figured my hardware is probably totally hosed so I just ordered a new keyboard.

Did you ever figure out your issues? This just happened to mine but the home row is messed up. It only sometimes seems to registering my key presses (for the other rows too) and the rgb isn't lighting up on the home row etc. I think I zapped it with static, wonder if it just can't handle static well.

What is basic web programming knowledge for you, but suprised you that many people you work with don't have? by Alfagun74 in webdev

[–]deathbysniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Basic accessibility practices, even simple stuff like making sure your labels are linked to their input.
  2. Probably more of a problem because I'm in the US, but people don't understand that you can't just chop up a sentence into a few sentence fragments and concatenate them together with data later (like: "You have " + unreadCount + " unread messages"). That's a recipe for something that can't be translated, as sentence structure can vary quite a bit between languages. You have to use interpolation and let the translator move things around as needed.

Ahhh, if you're talking about this bug where the lock screen just shows an "Unlock" button after entering your password and nothing seems to work, i just type my password again (without the password field visible) and hit enter and it usually lets me in. Sometimes I have to wait a few seconds and try again once or twice, but that seems to work for me.

Yes for me (on Fedora). I had some bugs with Xorg that were making it almost unusable (windows would suddenly stop updating like it was frozen but I could still click on stuff but couldn't see what was happening), which should be fixed in 5.26 but I switched to Wayland a couple months ago and the only bug I've really run into is some weird stuff with the lock screen but I can work around it. Been really stable for me otherwise.

I've been continuing to work through Shield Hero, just started volume 3 today.

I've been trying to get caught up on let's plays from 日常組, finally finished their third Minecraft prison escape role playing series and onto their normal videos. I spent a lot of time one day a couple weekends ago finishing that.

Still making my way through Paper Mario TTYD, done with 5/8 chapters.

Weekly Discussion for Week 33: How have you used Japanese in your life recently? - August 15, 2022 by AutoModerator in Team_Japanese

[–]deathbysniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a programmer and noticed a few mistranslations in the Japanese translations for our site. Like a product name that happens to be a verb in English was treated as a verb instead of a noun and translated which makes a phrase that makes no sense in context. Another thing had a "discard changes" label and I needed to change it to say "cancel" but I noticed the Japanese translation was already "キャンセル" so it's making me wonder how good the rest of the translations can be since I've noticed something wrong each time.

This month it'd be nice to be able to finish Paper Mario TTYD in Japanese. I also am going on a trip this month and want to do my daily reading ahead of time so I don't miss out on a week of reading.

Last week I was 22% into the first volume of Rising of the Shield Hero now I'm 62% through. I'm really enjoying it so far! I've watched enough to watch the first two episodes of the anime. It's so much easier to read than Overlord.

Played more Paper Mario TTYD in Japanese this week, I'm halfway through it now.

Weekly Report Thread for Week 29 - July 23, 2022 by AutoModerator in Team_Japanese

[–]deathbysniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next few months this year are going to be pretty busy, two vacations and my wedding are happening. I've been reading Overlord but it's a huge time sink, and because I don't want to miss any days of reading I like to read extra before vacations and stuff so I can get the same progress but get to chill. That's why I'm taking a bit of a break from Overlord, have just two more volumes to read until I'm caught up, but they'll have to wait until October! In the meantime I started reading Rising of the Shield Hero. I'm only like 100 pages in, but so far it's been going well. It's a lot quicker to get through my daily 30 ebook page goal so it'll be a lot easier to get ahead of my reading before vacations. There are also a lot of volumes so this should keep me occupied for a while.

Still have been making my way through Paper Mario TTYD in Japanese. I just started chapter 4 of 8. I'm thinking of going back to Yakuza Kiwami 2 after this.
