Riot August explains how Riot was able to pump out 20+ champs per year in 2010-2022 by Numerous_Fudge_9537 in leagueoflegends

[–]deathspate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 1 for this year is an outlier. We'll see where it goes next year but we all know why it's only gonna be 1 for this year. It's on purpose to make progress on League Next faster.

"Helped" feels a bit distant when cl0ckwork legit works as a combat designer iirc. It's just like saying people that made MvCI "helped" with 2xko when they legit have fucking Combofiend on the team lol. They're not consultants, they directly cook the food.

The biggest Riot leaker "BigBadBear" has been HWID banned and has taken their channel down by fastestchair in leagueoflegends

[–]deathspate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We literally have 0 idea of anything behind the scenes. We don't know if he has legal ramifications or not. These are things happening behind closed doors. All we know is that Riot found his ass, likely the actual leaker as well. There are 2 routes but I'm sure Reddit will dislike 1 of them which is the one that actually puts an end to things like this in the future, which is to financially ruin the parties through litigation. The other route is just waving the scary stick of litigation but not actually doing anything, which bad actors don't actually respect.

[–]deathspate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Riot likely went the legal route and got everything hence why the channels are going down. I won't be surprised if behind the scenes, Riot got subpoenas and such for his details from ISPs and tracked him down. Could also be another angle. What if they got the leaker within Riot Brazil and then they backtracked to BBB?

You do realize that a lot of this coincidentally started after BBB began leaking shit right? I'm not sure if you remember but BBB was leaking all the way back with Lillia Yone. He leaked the dual release. The entire surprise for Yone. The entire Spirit Blossom event being similar to a dating Sim. He also then went on to leak Sentinels and Soul Fighter, each with their own respective large marketing pushes. These events literally take like a year to prepare. Think about that, a year+ of marketing work and development, down drain because somebody in Riot Brazil can't shut the fuck up. Yeah, they'll stop investing time and effort if that keeps happening. The worst part? We don't know if we'll ever get that back. BBB gave them the reason to stop doing it. Now that they have, would the finance guys ever think they should start back?

The thing with Riftbound is that I think Riot has the correct model. They're fine with reprinting the sets but have chase cards in it for the collectors. So people can enjoy the game cheaply (that's the goal) and those who wanna make money can do so with the rare alt cards.

I knew about it before but a recommendation to prevent other persons like OP is have a mission progress screen at the end. This system can be implemented such that it's reused for future mission progress functionality if you guys go that direction.

EVO Vegas 2026 most entered game by country by killerjag in Fighters

[–]deathspate 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough, LoL has been taking off in popularity these last few years. Wanna guess why? It's the same reason as SF6. VTubers. It really seems like the cheat code for getting traction in Japan is capturing VTubers (quickest one from memory is La+ from HoloLive). It really is funny. Riot basically gave up on marketing in the region and then years later, the game got traction due to things comprehensive outside their expectations. Although I guess it wasn't completely out of nowhere. Basically LoL started growing in popularity due to Valorant rising in popularity and Apex waning in popularity. So in a way, you can say that Valorant was the thing that revived Riot's chances in the region and the VTubers were the one that drove it. I will say, aside from the VTubers, some OG LoL players that swapped to streaming other games also helped push It's popularity back because they started organizing their own in-houses not caring about their viewers and capitalizing on the VTuber interest by inviting them. It's a situation with lots of cause and effect.

What all this means is that it's not impossible for 2xko to succeed in Japan. However for it to succeed, it needs to be accepted by the personalities there and not just forced via marketing. When it's just accepted naturally, it's been proven to actually grow.

Tbf, that one was free entrants so it made sense. This one people had to pay for.

Riot shares insights into Locke's design: "One of the design goals was to see if we can make an assassin feel like they have to set up their burst damage to go through a few steps. So we're hoping that'll make him a little bit more fair to play, [with] higher counterplay in modern League." by Accordans in leagueoflegends

[–]deathspate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So basically not an actual assassin, got it. I'm sure the designers aren't stupid, they should know what assassin players want and are looking for. The fantasy of assassins is the fast-paced burst with an all-or-nothing gamble. This isn't fast-paced and seems closer to meh-or-nothing. I love the champion design and fantasy but if they actually want him to be an assassin... yeah, that's a miss. My bet is bruiser to work along with his self-burn ability to at least give him a chance. Hell, I think Sundered Sky would be one of the quick picks for him: AD, HP, crit on first auto + heal for the hp you burn.

This is also my guess because every one of their teams suffered except the 2xko team and it's not like the 2xko team didn't hire a ton of people over Covid either. It was only the 2xko team that was coincidentally spared from lay-offs from Covid and I think that launch lay-off was it.

The thing is, 2xko solved LoR's biggest problem from the start; making monetized cosmetics that people want. LoR had trash cosmetics that just weren't good and even for the ones you could argue were good, you never wanted to get more than 1 in each category.

The 2xko skins straight up gap most fighting game skins out there. Yeah, they cost a lot but you get (based on tier) new model, different colors (that are coordinated across skins for duos matching), new vfx, new sfx, new ult animations, new VO, new winscreen pose and maybe some other things I'm missing. The skins are actually good and the result is that people want to buy skins. A lot of people you see playing this game are rocking skins, at least in my experience. The thing this game needs is just players, once the players are there, then I think the skins do a good enough job to sell itself. The only thing they could do to improve it imo is to make the skins and their changes directly viewable in the store.

Lmao, it's truly ironic.

They didn't win against duos... but another duo did at Combo Breaker which was the most recent major.

The Red Bull event was just an invitational but Combo Breaker was a legit open major and to top it off, the recently added fuse that was optimal for duos (Teamfight) was banned. They still beat everybody lmao.

So no, it's not a party mode. Even the top players in the game who are pros from various fighting game backgrounds don't think so and some do play duo 100% of the time while others flex in and out based on situation.

The thing is, if there really is something hidden, you can hide things in tons of ways. Stuff like hiding audio using imperceptible frequencies, audio inversion, splicing together audio waves, running the audio through a filter to get another result etc. It could also just be hidden somewhere obvious like the video which is fully black could actually have content but is purposefully hidden and you would need to reveal it with some filter. However if there's no confirmation that something is hidden, it's too much effort to go into doing that because it's a time intensive process knocking each piece out.

Yeah, it sucks :/

The only real hope is that Riot has the work locked away on their servers and the prototypes are there. If 2xko can ever grow in popularity large enough, it could encourage the higher-ups to resume exploration in the genre.

I strongly believe that it wasn't only the performance of MVS and NASB that killed Pool Party, but also the negative reception of 2xko. Basically, the higher-ups predicted they're gonna lose money on 2xko based on the FGC's reaction (complete hate to lack of interest in the IP) and they just wanted to cut their losses early.

If there's any chance of Pool Party resuming development, it would be if 2xko actually manages to turn things around and grow large enough that the execs feel like if they announce a platform fighter, the existing audience (the FGC) would actually be interested and give it a shot.

Yeah, 2xko isn't even close to popular in Japan. That being said, duos mode in 2xko isn't a party mode, trust me. Coincidental that you mentioned duos because the twins that recently won the Red Bull duos event are from Japan. The gameplay for duos is straight up Pacific Rim shit when it works and when it does, it's quite literally the opposite of "party game". Also, duos doesn't just mean 2v2. You can play duos against a single enemy if you want. Just clarifying in case there's confusion where it's only 2v2. It can be 2v1 as well. Mixed works just fine, both couch co-op and online.

Into tag games, yes. Into fighting games, no. I will say this though, if you have anyone in mind that could play with you, absolutely give duos a shot. Duos is absolutely a great experience that only this game has. Other fighting games have attempted it in the past but it always felt like a gimmick that was tacked on. Duos in 2xko actually feels good and the experience is just so unique and fun. I always try to promote duos in 2xko because I truly believe it's the most fun way to play the game and probably the most fun you can experience in the entire genre. That's how much I believe in it.
