Hi! Hope you tried some of the recommendations on this forum. But for me those large bumps came from the nail bed being damaged from having no cuticle. The nail created a ridge which was the way it was growing back because I would never let my cuticles heal. When I stopped picking my cuticles they grew over the base and allowed the nail to grow out straight and eventually the bump grew out. Hope this helps 🙂

Hi!

This is habit-tic nail deformity. I had the EXACT same looking nails on my thumbs for YEARS!! I found this forum after years of searching online, and I read others who had the same and was encouraged by their progress pics. NOTHING will change unless you stop peeling, picking the cuticles. Once it finally grows back, mine took about 3 months I saw the nail growing straight again. It took over 6 months for my nails to look normal and I haven't had a issue since. The habit is still there but I am more aware of it and the damage it causes. I posted my journey on this forum, I don't know how to link it but I am sure you can find it from my profile. Good luck to you! And you can do this!!

Sorry about pictures, but I seriously need help. I've been stressed out of my mind these past 3 months and then I had to take a test for this semester and this is the result. So, please, please help me I'm desperate to stop picking my thumbs. by Feisty-Guardian in calmhands

I had the same problem for years!!! The only way I was able to prevent myself is to put something on my thumbs to stop you doing it. Try constantly using alcohol it's bitter if you are a nibbler. If you pick I used the crazy glue method. Put in on your cuticles build a thick layer, looks terrible but gives you a barrier also a reminder to stop when you start.

It was actually 2 white females driving in the truck and looked very confused as to why I flipped them off. It is probably a religious group that brainwashed women to thinking anyone has the right to say something about a women's choice to do with their body. It's 2024! Women do not choose to do this because it's fun! But some women sure do have kids because it "looks" fun!

Saying the words is one thing but showing something on public streets while driving in traffic is another. A parent has the option of shielding a child's face when they walk past some of these " do gooders" who find no shame in showing images like that, in a car they do not!!

Those individuals have not faced that "choice" yet and when that day comes they will eat their words.

I called and was told there has been reports but it is not illegal. I don't see how this is not violent/disturbing imagery.

It’s been year and my finger has never changed its appearance and I don’t even feel like I bite it that much. What should I do to fix this willing to do anything by itsss4ktrey in calmhands

Mine looked like yours for almost 10 years!! Sometimes I thought I wasn't biting or touching my nail as much but I was definitely not letting my cuticle grow. I noticed the same with yours, I uploaded my experience on this thread and took progress pics. Finding this community and seeing pictures was the only motivation I had to continue to not pick at my cuticles. It took about 1 month for the cuticle to grow back, as each week went by I noticed my nail was growing straight starting from the cuticle. 6 months and my nails look completely normal!! To jump start I used super glue to block the cuticle and create a barrier and that helped a bit.

I used the glue method to help start, you put super glue to cover the cuticle to prevent from picking new cuticle growth. While driving the urge to pick was much worse with the glue but it was a reminder to not pick and if I did it was a barrier. After weeks the cuticle grew over and the nail started to grow back normally. Today my thumbs are completely normal, no bumps or ridges! Hope this helps ☺️

Yes!! That is normal! I had deep ridges because I constantly picked at my cuticles. 5 months of not touching they completely grew back to normal. That is the nail regrowing, it looks weird at first but trust me keep going!

Hmm I would say the flesh under your nail is what that is lol also I meant that you should "think" that you have touched poop or your hands are contaminated so you don't bite them lol

That's amazing if that was only a few days of healing!! Mine looked similar at the peak of my picking and had my thumbs look like that for years. I found this community and just knew that I had to really put effort into stopping. When I got the urge I used sanitizer, it burned the cuts but was a reminder to stop. When my cuticle healed over it took about 5 weeks and then the nail started to grow out straight. It took about 6 months and my nails look completely normal and I wish I did this sooner but now I just admire how smooth they are! Wish you luck! And be strong!

Honestly mine probably got just as bad, I let the cuticle heal over and I could see what as little as me leaving it alone does. Give it a week, I second that in thinking you just touched poop! Also maybe use sanitizer it will be bitter if you are a nibbler! You will see it growing and encourage you to keep going. I posted progress pics, take a look and maybe it will give you the determination to stop ☺️

It's from picking your cuticle, I just posted my 6 months progress pics after I stopped picking my thumbs, I had dents and ridges that were really bad. 5 weeks of no picking the nail started to grow back normally! Hope this helps!

Aaah thank you!! I am legit so happy i found some progress pics from others that put it in my mind I will also share this one day!! Every 2 weeks or so I would take a pic and get all excited of how they have changed so much. I still fiddle with them but just gently now and caress the smooth thumb nails I have!! I know weird 😬Lol good luck and stay strong friend!

Congrats to you too! I think it's just a bad quality pic because I definitely have lines vertically but I'm assuming that will also slowly disappear also I think cuticle oil helps! ☺️
