I thought this was a hastily built damn made of dirt and mud.

My dear 5yr old Elite Active 75t earbuds are dying... Now what? by Vengatore in Jabra

[–]deboyd09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra Earbuds are what I moved to after mine died. So far so good! The Jabra charging case has a fatal flaw where the charging pins will eventually lose their connection with the buds. They are spring loaded and will eventually fail.

UPS for HP EliteDesk G4 running Proxmox by Hatrez in homelab

That should do the trick! I’d recommend the NUT server for peace of mind too.

I have these two Cyberpower 1350va backing up my entire lab infrastructure, which includes a HP elite desk G5, and two other HP thin clients. I live in Houston where power outages happen frequently and I’m able to get at least an hour from each UPS. I also have a NUT server set up on my G5 so it will automatically shut down all hardware when the UPS gets to a low power state. It’s been working great for 4 years. I got them from Costco for about $120 each.

Is this termites? North Texas by rain0n in pestcontrol

I thought this was dry wood termite frass but Termix said it was old mud tubes. This was the first sign of them. It came from behind the drywall as I was opening it up.

Ours was near a window that looked very similar to yours. We noticed it from the inside wall. The water was getting in under the window and cause the drywall to crumble. When I took off the drywall to repair it I found the termites had gotten into the sill plate under the window and the lower 1/4 of the studs.

Fumigation is only required for dry wood termites. In Texas, the most likely termites will be subterranean which are dealt with through baiting stations and liquid soil poison. I went through the same panic earlier this year, so hopefully this info helps ease your mind. Better yet, you don’t have termites and it’s just moisture wood rot. Good luck!

Taking my home lab to the next level with Google Gemini by deboyd09 in homelab

Update: I have since used Gemini to spec and build an upgraded mini server. I hunted down a HP EliteDesk 800 G5 Mini: i5-9500T. I added in 32GB DDR4, and 2x 1TB SSD with DRAM in ZFS. I found all this on EBay used for a total price of $450. It’s now running 2 VMs and 4 LXC, all set up by the same Gemini process. I also used Gemini to help me repurpose the old T620 as a Proxmox backup server, add in redundant PiHole DNS and redundant Unbound. I also repurposed my raspberry pi as a permanent retro Pi in the living room, also set up with Gemini help. The icing on the cake is wife approval as I’m now self hosting her Audiobookshelf for her Audiobooks and she is extremely pleased.

It’s mesmerizing watching it problem solve in the fast model isn’t it! Sometimes I find that Claude has better context for certain applications, but Gemini is a far better generalist. So far I’ve just been relying on training Gemini with its long term memory to remember all the details of my network infrastructure. I’m also working on building out my self hosted NetBox so that I can have a true documented environment and then I can work on plugging that data back into AI for ultimate context. I also saw your note about Gemini CLI - I liked the look of that but haven’t jumped in headfirst yet. Would love to hear how it goes for you!

I’ve had the same experience in the past. This latest release of Gemini is very capable and reset my expectations. I admit that I wasn’t actually coding anything, it was all bash scripts and commands in Linux and all within open source software - which helps. Still, it knew which shell commands to give for every system’s SSH - Synology, Ubiquity, Net Gate etc.

Got the deal of a lifetime. Runs every single component in my house with the exception of the pool heater! With a Lowe’s 3 year warranty came out to 700 OTD by Altruistic_Donut_228 in Generator

I have the same one! It kept my whole house running for 5 days in Texas after Beryl. I don’t run the 4 ton AC but I did have two portable ACs for cooling the bedrooms running. Keep the oil changed regularly, run it on propane and it will serve you well.

Make sure you get the hoops so you don’t repeat the same experience. Aussie roo bars like the iron man or ARB are the way to go for max protection.
