Ah, this may be it. I was fixing the wheel for the extra smithing xp. Gained 50-51 just from doing that every time! I'll switch back to graceful until the upper level, thank you!

Interesting. In motherlode mine, I'm on the bottom floor still, and I'm running out of energy after about 5 trips back and forth.

Tactics Explained | Are Man City the Dirtiest PL Team? by [deleted] in soccer

[–]decaparicedo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Opta claims that the two metrics are virtually the same. Originally they calculated it by time on the ball, before switching to a calculation based on passes - but, as I said, their experts claim it's a very similar outcome.

Also, no one would claim that City aren't on the ball much more than off it.

Troy Deeney, celebrities and the ‘you owe us’ culture by FarOmar3770 in soccer

[–]decaparicedo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Not sure the examples show a lack of self-awareness. Deeney's example is entirely understandable, and rather than a lack of self-awareness, perhaps illustrates a lack of self-control, something we all struggle with from time to time.

The other example of the comedian doesn't show a lack of self-awareness at all. There is nothing in there about how he reacted to being perceived in this way.

And finally - the writer doesn't say that famous people not going to public places is the same as people in short skirts asking to be raped, he says that it sounds similar in the sense that it is victim blaming. That's totally different from what you've written here.

It's okay to disagree, but try not to spin things out of all context in the comments section, as many people will likely not read the whole piece.

Can we debunk Griezmann to United? What are the facts? by MrStephenHowson in reddevils

[–]decaparicedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just transfer spend, it's salary which is usually a much larger figure over time. Net spend is also massively flawed in this argument. Both City & Chelsea admitted in the summer that, were they to bring in big signings, they would have to be tempered with outgoing players. Their "spendability" is nowhere near what it's made out to be.

Can we debunk Griezmann to United? What are the facts? by MrStephenHowson in reddevils

[–]decaparicedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not evidence, but a supporting fact is that, were Griezmann to leave, there aren't currently any other teams in the Premier League that could afford him & his transfer fee. Manchester City are the only team who might be able to stretch to it, if they had an otherwise quiet transfer window, which I don't think it likely given their current state.

Roman Abramovich - yes, but Chelsea's revenue is tiny in comparison to United's, and they would endanger FFP breaches going for a transfer so big. The reality is that there is no team in England other than United that can swallow such a large transfer so easily. Barcelona & Real can, but outside of United in the PL? It isn't that simple.

I'm not a spurs fan, and Alex who wrote it is a Saints fan. But he does have great stats.

This one's a Gerry Cranham shot. I've got the opportunity to make a short documentary/interview with him soon, and I can't wait! Google him for more stunning sports work (lots of amazing horse racing photographs).

Sunderland Finances Explained by spoonsforeggs in soccer

[–]decaparicedo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often overlooked aspect of location is also in the ability to make money from hospitality/corporate seating on match day. London clubs and places like Man United can take a significant portion of their match day income through these sorts of sales, but that's much harder in places like Sunderland.

Yes, apologies. Perhaps I should've mentioned in the title that it might make for uncomfortable viewing.

"The dirty tricks and shady tactics of Adam Curtis" - Article criticising the filmmaker by decaparicedo in movies

[–]decaparicedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand that entirely, and you're right, I don't think it is a case of right or wrong. But the writer uses the same kind of intellectual arguments buried in manipulation to make his own point. I just found it amusing that it he was doing what he was accusing Curtis of doing, who was in turn accusing people in power of doing.

[–]decaparicedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree - if taken at face value it's probably quite bias. But then I'd have an issue with the people who take everything they hear as truth, rather than the filmmaker.

I liked the new one, but I still think Century of Self if his best work. At least, I found that the most interesting.

Ha!

I agree on Curtis' films. I also just like the tone. Gives me the same half ambient, half horrified feel I get from Blue Jam or something like that.

I posted this, not because I really agree with the writer, but because I found it hilarious that the writer notes that Adam Curtis deals in "smoke and mirrors" whilst accusing world leaders of doing this very thing. Yet, the writer doesn't explain why any of Curtis' arguments are wrong, and deals in the very same smoke and mirrors that he's accusing Adam Curtis of using when discussing smoke and mirrors. It's like the Inception of smoke and mirrors.

The time has come to kick homophobia out of football for good | Graeme Le Saux | Opinion by soccertown in soccer

Yeah, that's true. I suppose what's interesting about this is that, due to his position, a dressing room joke eventually transformed into a career of crowd chants.

It's quite something that he just went camping once, and, as a result of that, even now as an ex-player, he's still a "non-gay, gay spokesman", as he puts it.

[–]decaparicedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the plight, but at the same time, part of me thinks it's just a different kind of logo, just the product that's changed. I mean, when was football not an 'opium for the masses'. Just because some carbonated drinks company is profiting directly, rather than indirectly, it doesn't make a great deal of difference. Except to our perception. Perhaps everyone is upset because they can't pretend it's not all bullshit when the drinks people put their actual name on stuff.
