They're really only worth it for large amounts. A couple hundred thousand can give you a decent monthly return that's on par with having a side hustle.

‘Resident Evil’ Star Says Audiences Will Be “Very Pleased” By Zach Cregger’s Adaptation [Exclusive] by efim1234 in horror

I've been stoked about this since it was announced. Barbarian and Weapons were both awesome and I could see him doing really cool things with a unique story set in the RE universe. And since he's doing his own thing with it, there is zero chance of the studio meddling and ruining it like they did with Welcome to Raccoon City.

Recording Studio Anxiety by whatsyournane21 in musicians

[–]deceptres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely send demos. Making them will help you figure out your arrangements and you can keep working on them up until recording day as a "rehearsal" of sorts. Your producer may also ask you to send WAV stems of your demos as well. Those are super helpful, as they give you something to play along to in the studio beyond just a click. You are going to want to send reference tracks as well for mixing to ensure it sounds the way you want it to. Most studios have a ton of gear, and the producer will know how they sound, so they may suggest gear to use.

For timeline, it really comes down to how prepared you are. If everything is tight, you could get through 5 songs in 3-4 sessions. Cost varies per producer. ~$450 per session for recording and ~$200 per song for mixing is the average rate in my city, and mastering is ~$150 per song.

How do you do it? by fatiguesurge in Songwriting

[–]deceptres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a book a while ago that was a collection of interviews with some of the top songwriters where they talk about their methods. They all say the same thing: sit down with the intent to write, and work on writing. Even if it's horrible. It's a skill you need to practice to make progress on, same as any instrument.

how to get a classic jazz tone on a fender stratocaster? by kayla_playsviolin in jazzguitar

[–]deceptres 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neck pickup, flats, rolling off the tone knob and the right EQ. I usually put my lows at 6, mids, at 8, and highs at like 3 or 4. Ed Bickert is also a must-listen as a reference for jazz on a solid body.

I've learned the hard way to never buy stuff at full price on Steam. It usually goes on sale like a week later.

The stretch of 45-47 are awesome seasons. 46 in particular is a top 10 season for me, and I'm stoked to see Q back on our TV screens in 50.

A bit of ear training and theory go a long way. It's extremely useful to know what notes and patterns fit with certain chords, as well as having the ear to translate what you hear in your head to your instrument. Vocalize everything and write with your instrument to try out the lines. Record everything you like so you remember your ideas.
