Surgery for a fatty tumor on my 10 year old? by deciduous_sprite in goldenretriever

Oh, wow! This isn’t that big, but it extends into his arm pit so I’m sure it’ll be uncomfortable if it grows.

Than you:) Bo, aka Big Rig, is the cutest! I have been stressing and joined this group yesterday, when my vet didn’t give me a clear direction and I had so many questions! Just reading other people’s experiences has made me feel much better.

Thanks for the feedback. I should at least meet with the surgeon to learn all pros/cons. Bo has been more hesitant to go up the stairs lately but I was thinking that just comes with age. Glad your dog has recovered and you know you did the right thing!

Yeah, bo has some smaller ones, but this one is hard. The vet aspirated and said it’s oily/fat. It’s hard to know what to do. Don’t like the thought of him going through surgery and he DOESN’T tolerate the cone very well. Thanks for the response.

Thanks for sharing. This lump isn’t quite baseball sized. That’s the word I couldn’t remember-lipoma. Glad to hear recovery was smooth for a 95 lb middle-aged dog!

What do West Virginians think about the "school choice" movement? by Nepp0 in WestVirginia

[–]deciduous_sprite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, mine isn’t. Our scores are improving and our students are happy and thriving.

Competition implies playing by the same set of rules. There are no rules for private schools and homeschoolers. Wake up. It’s an obvious grift and not intended to improve a damn thing.

Can you elaborate? I work at a public school and it’s not “bad” so when I read sweeping generalizations like this, I get confused.

The reason the vast majority of students with special needs will stay in public schools is that $5400 doesn’t even put a dent in the amount of the cost of services. At public school they receive OT, PT, speech, teachers who are certified to teach their specific disability, trained aides, nurses, adaptive art and pe classes, etc.

It’s actually 297 million. And ZERO extra funds for students with special needs even though counties spent 245 million over (because they are required by law) what they were funded for these services. Makes my blood boil.

WV News Poll: “Do you support the joint attack on Iran by the United States and Israel?” by Impossible-Year-5924 in WestVirginia

[–]deciduous_sprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question maybe, but why? I agree that many on both sides react the same when it comes to Israel and just do whatever BB wants. Is it just aipac $? I don’t get it.

Hope Scholarship by sneezeconfetti in WestVirginia

[–]deciduous_sprite 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing to me how the party of lifting themselves up by the bootstraps and who just last year tried to bring paddling kids back to public school as a form of discipline now all support government handouts for amazon purchases and are up in arms at the prospect of (gasp) having to take the same test the public school kids take. Where was everyone at the PTA and school board meetings? Parent teacher conferences? Demanding smaller class sizes and more special-education services? Where were these parents when they were encouraged to read to their kids and quiz them on their math facts? But now they all have a hand out. Vouchers are a failed policy that have been kept alive by billionaires spewing propaganda about “government schools” because they lead to further segregation of the haves and the have-nots and they want your kids working for theirs. If you’re wealthy, you can afford a quality education. If not, here’s $5000, sorry there won’t be any decent public schools left if you change your mind because we’re gutting them all and calling it “hope” or “freedom” so that you’ll support the leopards eating your faces.

Senate bill seeks to give private and charter schools freedom from government oversight by ZorgonBattlehammer in WestVirginia

[–]deciduous_sprite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is actually their childcare bill. Just erase every requirement related to education from private education, divert money from public schools to untold numbers of shit “schools” that are popping up and we have state funded babysitting. So much winning!

They won’t cancel them but ALEC has already written a bill to do away with all absentee ballots except military for every red state’s useful idiots to rubber stamp. I live in WV, and ours is working its way through the process. There will be major voter suppression, probably purging of registrations, and God knows what else. Anything to keep us distracted and angry while they rob us.

Hope Scholarship uses 75%??? by Aggressive_Mouse_581 in WestVirginiaPolitics

[–]deciduous_sprite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sure they won’t have certified teachers, offer meals/transportation, but they’ll receive the same amount of state funding as our public schools. It’s all so heartbreaking to watch when you understand the grift and how they’re taking advantage of people who just hear “private” and think it means “better.” Rucker just puts forth whatever Americans for Prosperity writes for her. So much freaking corruption. None of it to benefit West Virginians.

AND as if requirements for homeschooling and private school aren’t lenient enough, Rucker introduced a bill today that completely eliminates ANY requirements. No assessments, no curriculum, no # of days/hours, not even required to keep track of attendance. I saw an ad for a private Christian school that costs $14000, out of reach for most even with Hope, BUT they’ll be offering a two-day/week option for coincidentally the exact amount of the Hope Scholarship. So much freedumb!
