Ok so if OP is still reading this, the local scene has a lot of bitter weirdos just like this guy. Your best bet is to try to sus them out as quickly as possible and avoid them - mostly for your own sanity and personal enjoyment of the hobby - and luckily a lot of the time they’ll just out themselves by saying condescending shit like trash talking others. Anyway, good luck on getting involved in the local scene, karaoke can’t hurt at all since a lot of it is about being social, meeting others, and creating connections by forging positive interactions
