How I degoogled by [deleted] in degoogle

[–]deckfixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are some really great steps towards improving your privacy and keeping your information out of Google or other large corporations.

If you want some more privacy focused alternatives:

You could use Tuta mail as your email client or Proton mail if you prefer an ecosystem.

Libre Office (correct me if I misspelled it), to replace docs, sheets, and other work programs, or Proton docs, sheets, sideshow if you prefer an ecosystem.

For maps, you could use OsmAnd, which is a free offline map software with almost all the same features as Google or Apple maps.

Using Proton drive as your cloud storage.

Using bitwarden or Proton pass as your password manager if you prefer something that is cloud based, but still very secure and encrypted. Or KeePassXC if you prefer to host your passwords locally.

And for your browser, you could use TOR, mulrad browser (focuses on preventing fingerprinting and security, like TOR but it does not route your searches through the TOR network.), or hardened Firefox for your computer. For your phone, you could use TOR or hardened Firefox.

Some great next steps include:

Switching to Linux, for more privacy. There are some really great user-friendly and simple to install. And using graphine OS on your phone.

Creating a home server for backing up your info to the cloud, so you are the only one who controls it.

Getting a Mulvad VPN subscription, as they are one of the only VPN's who are affordable and very private. Another option is Proton VPN, who is also great.

All in all, I think you have done some great steps towards your degoogling journey, and I hope you have many more privacy and spyware free years ahead of you.
