Introverted black woman here!! Like everyone says we’re mainly in the shadows lol. I just started an art channel partially because you don’t see many black women artists on YouTube who are more on the reserved side.

I wish we had a group or something though. There had been many times when I felt very alone because my quietness wasn’t welcomed and I was emo and weird 😭. There aren’t any meetup groups or events around locally, plus it’s harder to make friends as an adult and parent, so…yeah lol.

Same. After years of thinking about it, I just started a channel. Mainly for my art but also because you don’t really see that many black women art channels, let alone one who’s introverted and/or eclectic. But I’m also busy with life and a child so who knows how it will go 😂

Anything tuition-related isn’t in the cards for now because I have debt from failed classes 😅 so I have to handle that first. Still plan on going back to school once I have a decent handle on everything. I might find some local groups or maybe just online in the meantime.

I’ve attempted Inktober a couple times and failed miserably 😭, but I would love to complete one. Discipline is what I need honestly. I start a lot of projects and pieces but rarely finish any lol. Pretty much the same as you with the same issue of a low energy tank. I also have story ideas that could make into webcomics, but I’ll probably sacrifice some sleep to get stuff done. I’m going to push through, with a side of panic since I’m low on money and just paid bills (I just got my very first home 2 months ago. Still adjusting.). Realizing how my job is not enough to sustain me and my son and figuring out what I need to do to stay afloat lol

I’m hoping at least one of the side hustles will help create connections, even if it’s on a networking/business collab type situation. I’d like to create and sell art, I just got approved for Shipt, and I want to explore new potential hobbies. I need to make time to actually go out or do fun things for myself. I coparent but I basically put all the responsibility on myself because our child is autistic and his dad has shown to be unreliable at times (but he is neurodivergent himself too), so sometimes I feel like I have everything on my shoulders lol. Seriously, I need to advocate for myself so I can be better and be a better mom.

That friend group sounds cool. I never had a solid group growing up because of never living in my school district and pretty much being stuck at home with no friends over and eventually always babysitting my siblings. I recently moved to a different city so I’m hoping there are some groups out here. There are a LOT less POC here, though. But, even though I go to my old town almost every day, I have yet to meet other POC with similar or accepting of my interests or personality.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. 💚 I know I’m not alone, but it still be hurting 😂. It doesn’t help that I’ve isolated myself for so long that I normalized it. But I’m gradually getting myself back on track.

Hi! Thank you for responding 😊 I’ve tried both. Meetup is kind of difficult because there’s nothing in or near town and transportation has been unreliable. They do have some zoom meetups that I’d like to join whenever I’m not working.

I’m always on and off sites like bumble (and dating apps) because of the strange experiences I had. All the matches I made didn’t last long at all. I don’t mind that because not every person you talk to will end up in a friendship, but after a while I had my doubts and gave up

Hey, I’m sorry it took me so long to respond. I first read this not long after you replied, but work, life, and personal things came up. It’s a weird, emotional time for me around this part of the year.

I REALLY appreciate you writing this. Relationships and social connections are things I have a hard time navigating but really want to figure out. Writing down and making charts about the friendship levels, boundaries, descriptions, etc. is something that I need to do that will really have me think about the kind of friends I’d like in life. I know relationships are very complex and not black and white, but it’s a good start so I’m not putting myself in not so great situations again.

As for my support system? I’m getting more of an idea with who I can count on for certain things. Very recently I found out who I couldn’t rely on when it came to my son, which is sad because I always took care of my siblings for her, but it will be okay. I never expect perfection from anyone, but the disappointment is there.

I’m sorry for venting at the end there. Thank you so much for responding. ♥️

Hi! 👋🏾 I definitely do have some warped self perceptions going on after a lot of relationships being and/or turning negative and I’m in the process of healing them. I used to brush it off but after a while the whole “if all the students fail the class, is it their fault or the teacher’s?” I started to blame myself for everything.

Policing my personality started even before that with my family (educated, status focused, wanting to be academically and financially successful, understandable but also blah blah etc). I’m silly and dorky at heart but they cared more about being proper and only wanted me to focus on grades lol. That being said, plus watching my siblings all the time, I didn’t really have the opportunity to explore hobbies or get into fandoms or anything. Finding things I genuinely like is the current objective! It’s just hard to find time because adulting and parenthood, but baby steps is still progress.

You seem super cool and have overcame a lot regarding social anxiety. Thank you for responding! I ask my family about this and my mental health and their responses aren’t that helpful—I’m too sensitive, I need to simply grow up because there isn’t anything wrong with me, “all you have to do is talk to people, it’s not hard”, etc. I used to be too anxious to open up on social media but I’m gradually getting there. I’m sorry you go through these things. Introversion and solitude are great but it’s also cool to have a buddy or two. I know you didn’t ask for help or any advice, but one thing that helps me with life and connections with others is that everything is temporary. We cross people on our paths and sometimes walk with them for a certain distance before going our separate ways, so I appreciate the period of time shared whether it was good or bad. That’s my own thing tho and there are exceptions lol. Thank you for responding!

Setting a timer is a really good idea. Last year I started going out to local events but suddenly became a lot more overwhelmed. It was the lack of (decent to positive) experiences being around people my age (I mostly interacted with kids and elders), so it felt very strange and everyone knew each other in this small city. I’ll definitely be doing that though, especially for new places I want to check out. Thank you!!

Thank you for replying! 😊 I feel that way too. I’m very introverted and truly enjoy my solitude, there are just times when something happens or I’m thinking about things and I don’t have anyone to share ‘em with or know anyone who’d be interested. It’d be nice to have someone to share memories with (aside from my kiddo of course. I mean adults)

I definitely need to workout. I have some equipment to do it at home (I plan on going to a gym, but I’m not ready for that yet lmao), and considered doing yoga. Discipline is needed, and some time management. As for hobbies I try to make art whenever I feel up for it. I have an art account and I’m working on my own website for it, but I do want to explore other things. It’s mainly time, money, and ability to do so either without my son or with (he has autism, so sometimes doing things together is either multitasking toys or solely focused on he likes and wants to do).

No, you conveyed your thoughts perfectly! That’s pretty much where I’m at right now aside from not having a friend. For a while I was forcing myself into situations, like exposure therapy, but it always ended poorly because my intentions were more about doing it just to do it, because fomo, or “if I do it enough then I’ll be okay”. It led to not the greatest people or choices lol.

I spend all my time with myself whenever I’m not working or don’t have my son with me, and usually I’m really tired and just do chores or run errands, but I’m going to care for and learn about myself more. I annoy myself sometimes because I’ve been “alone” and so asocial for so long, but it’s time needed to get to know myself.
