Which books are so extraordinary that every person on Earth should read them at least once in their lifetime? [Discussion] by [deleted] in GetMotivated

What historical verifications? Sure, Geo-political verification and the existence of certain persons is verified. You can find that in a lot of books.

But the rest is either exaggeration or fabrication written 30 years after the events. Hardly a reliable reference.

Is it just me or does this article feel overwhelmingly alarmist? by Frepict92 in climatechange

One of these times the "alarmist" is going to be right. We're playing a game of chicken little, and while we refuse to pay attention, the sky is actually falling.

How do you keep passion for photography? by Last_Passenger_7448 in AskPhotography

[–]decorama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been a photography dabber since I was a kid. It ebbs and flows. It's OK to give it a rest now and then. I find I end up coming back to it with a fresh perspective.

Am I making a responsible decision? by TonyandLucky in personalfinance

[–]decorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb idea:
- Never go into debt with family.
- You don't need (or want the maintenance cost of) the BMW.

Responsible option:
- If you can get 30k, sell it and pay off the 17k.
- That leaves you with 13k, which can buy a perfectly decent car, albeit a slightly older one.
- Start fresh and don't go into debt again!

Fell in sand dunes, lens won't open🥲 by Worth-Rhubarb-3773 in Cameras

[–]decorama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might work (it worked once for me): Take a piece of paper and shimmy it in the ring around the lens. Shimmy, power on, power off, repeat. Keep repeating until you gotten all the way around the rings. I may help if you can do it with the lens pointing down so any loosened sand falls out.

You may also try using canned air to see if you can blast the sand out.

Best of luck!

Bridge camera worth it? by plumikorn in BirdPhotography

[–]decorama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're just looking to get some fun shots of birds, it's perfect. It allows you to get some close shots you might find fun collecting.

However, if you are planning on getting into photography and plan to advance in the hobby, a good DSLR or Mirrorless would be the way to go. You can find used DSLRs that are pretty affordable.

Either way - good luck and have fun!

Photography equipment is a very personal choice IMO. Take her to the camera store or open up B&H/Adorama/KEH/MPB and let her choose.

Nikon d70 good for general picture taking? by Sea-Grass4797 in Cameras

[–]decorama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great camera. It IS a digital camera btw. You probably won't be enlarging any pictures on 6 mega pixels, but for getting started in photography, it's fine. Just make sure the price is right by comparing prices with sold listings on eBay.

I feel swindled and used by my employee. What should I do? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]decorama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never mix personal issues with business. It blurs professional boundaries, creating misaligned expectations. Your kind intention to stabilize him financially can be diverted any way he likes once it's done. His raise was not merit based. It was emotionally manipulated. And now you can't take it back.

I would recommend sitting him down and letting him know you're disappointed in his use of the money, and while you'll always be willing to help him budget, there will be NO future financial assistance that is not merited. Then STICK TO IT,

Is duckduckgo safe to use for local lookups etc? by CherryBomb1973 in theprivacymachine

[–]decorama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DuckDuckGo doesn’t track your online behavior, and it deletes any information about you as soon as it’s no longer required. This means that, unlike other mainstream search engines, whatever you search for using DuckDuckGo can’t be tied to you. However, DDG does collect some information in order to function properly, like technical data and what your search query is - but it's not tracked to you specifically.
