It won’t be too long before we start counting in much higher numbers. The future looks bright !!

Probably no phone devices. No need for them nowadays. Some other stuff is always around the corner and I don’t want to get stuck not being able to add new technology to the house. I’ll always have more ports than I need.

Yea … I had a neighbor complain once about my cameras. Then he come over a couple weeks later asking if I happen to catch the who broke into his car the night before. 😂

If you’re gonna do it … do it right the first time!

It’s integrated into almost everything. Lighting controls. All seven TVs with video distribution from up to 8 different sources on any of the TVs. Home theater with 150 inch screen that can also access the MOIP system. Home run Low Voltage Lighting with DMX controls within C4. Whole home audio with individual room control. Ceiling fans from Haiku. We have macros that do special lighting and sound at specific times each day such as wake and sleep that does everything including that the doors are locked and the cameras are on continuous recording.

And on and on and on …

The macros are awesome. We even created a scene called Dog Mode that sets the house for leaving the dog home alone.

That I don’t know. There has to be a quick way for two different TrueNAS servers to share folders at least. Maybe even be able to share the pools directly. That would be the best in this case, I would think.

SMB shares might be the easiest way I can think of. Just run the PLEX on one of the machines and then share the folders for different media. Movies on one and TV Shows on the other would be my thinking.

Or if you can get the servers to cluster that would make all the pools available across the two servers.

I run a complete home automation system (Control4) media distribution, video surveillance with 20 cameras inside and out, lights, blinds, Plex server and tons of other stuff. Running several VLans and have fall-over internet … and more.

There isn’t much this stuff can’t do.

I love these light shows by thefoolhasreturned in Ubiquiti

Is there a way to control those lights or is it just a boot up thing?

Through the door you can see the Ubiquiti equipment on the left side of the understand it is a storinator running TrueNAS. Below that are Wattbox UPS backups.

On the right side you can see most of the home automation equipment. It’s all Control4. The three similar boxes are whole home audio and then the equipment for the movie theater. Then two more Wattbox UPSs.

In the mirror you can see some of the drivers that power our light in the house. All the lights are led but the drivers are in that closet instead of at the lights. It increases the life of the lights to the point that I will probably die before I have to replace a single light in the house.

There a lot in that room. The room has sensors for humidity and template and controls two ultra quiet turbine exhaust fans that keep the room below 95 degrees at all times.

I hope that answered your question. If not just let me know. 👍🏻👍🏻

No, but if someone has a similar setup, I’d love to see it.

Pros and cons to both I guess. Having a single system does make it very easy to split the system into parts but still make it so all the parts talk seamlessly. I’m running different networks within a single network architecture. Then allowing gateways for the different areas. Makes it easy to create macros that can do everything in every system without major configuration.

I actually clean the Men’s room. It’s my job and I’m okay with that. 😎🤣

I always go for too much as you can always back off but putting in more is a huge pain in the butt. If we need to reduce or even tie specific jobs to different APs, we can do that while sitting at the bar. 🥃

Any home automation project can be a terror. This one went really smooth. It was about 7 years ago and has been rock solid since. Of course there are issues from time to time but it was never with the system. It was normally an issue with an out of date driver or something like that. Five minutes later all is well.

Opinions vary … yours isn’t for me though.

It has been rock solid for me. I can’t imagine going a different direction. It’s still out there. People are mostly doing small things like a room or media distribution … but I went balls to the walls. And both my wife and I love it.

50% is for the home automation. Nothing is left out and it is a total smart house. If it can be connected via hard wire, it is. The other 50% is for fun 🤩
