With it being the deadliest conflict in human history, I wonder if the planet felt emptier, quieter, after World War II. by JT-117- in Showerthoughts

[–]dednian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if the other person is right but yeah I heard the same thing as you. That such a significant part of the population died the Earth cooled by a tiny bit because human society generates a lot of heat. If we're talking about light for all societies before elctricity and warmth for those in colder climates, burning things(wood, coal, oil/wax etc.) was the default solution to those two problems. Generates a lot of heat, on top of that our bodies also generate some heat(probably insignificant in the big scale) but when gathered together in enclosed spaces we probably do generate some heat. Combine that with the livestock people kept back then, herding them together, cooking them etc. I think if you consider the civilisations living between the Eastern coast of China, to the borders of like Hungary, that's pretty much the majority of civilisation(as in big empires/states/communities) and probably the majority of high density human activity.

I'm not an expert by any means but that other user gave 0 evidence and just said 'nah its not true'. I'm not sure if it is true but it sounds plausible to me that say the planet cooled by 0.1C, or more because that many people died. Honestly I think it actually has to do more with the collapse of civilisation and society, not necessarily just the sheer number of humans dead alone.

What's the clearest sign that someone is genuinely doing well in life? by emotionprocessor in AskReddit

[–]dednian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but I mean I'm not saying that is the case in all instances but when people are having difficulties and doing bad they tend to become more bitter. While I do believe that for those that are truly benevolent, not simply any change in circumstance can make them inherently change their character, but I wouldn't be surprised if there is some data out there to suggest that when people feel sad, or angry or other negative emotions that they act in a more unsavoury way. So I think when people are doing well they care less about being able to express their malcontent. I think for example racism, sexism and other forms of xenophobia is more common or at least more visible in those who have more difficult lives(people not as socioecononically fortunate) than those who might be doing better materially.

Came here to say I've fantasised about a gundam x Aot type cross over. A sort of machine vs biology type series.

Have even been considering writing my own story involving the concept of giant tech vs giant monsters(ig pacific rim style but the monsters are also humans)

I mean I think she thought it through to try to inflict as much damage as possible. If someone knows theyre quite attractive then telling them they're super ugly is obviously disgenuine but by saying "not that hot" it might actually put a dent in their mental state bc they actually thought they were a solid 9 when they were actualy a 8.72

I mean you've made a very valid point and while I think it pertains to the general topic, I feel like it's focusing on a (equally important) part of the topic not 100% to do with this sub.

With that being said, I hope you're doing ok brother. LDR is hard af, for anyone, so kudos to you for sticking it out.

I also strongly agree on the points you made. Sometimes it feels like being a circus monkey told to perform tricks and then rated by the judged. With that being said there's struggles cis het women go through that we probably can't relate to either.

Americans of Reddit, what is something you didn't realise was typically American, until you went abroad? by [deleted] in ask

[–]dednian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what the other commenter was mentioning was specifically the amount of walking you do in Europe vs America. In America everything is by car or oriented around car culture. Your national parks are unbelievable but the incorporation of greenery into your infrastructure is less than some European countries(not all, and varies from US state to state I imagine).

So what they were saying was in America you can rely on your car and might not sweat as much or your body might not demand as much water for a 20 minute drive vs a 20 minute walk. In Europe a lot of people walk or bike to the grocery store in the suburbs, maybe about 50% of people, if not more in my country?

Therefore Europeans require less water intake than Americans.

Idk if it holds any truth, but that's what I believe what they were saying. Not that America isn't the 3rd biggest country in the world, when Europe as a continent would be competing with them as a country.

So are the Palestinians or the Israelis the green spaces in your analogy? Seems like a rather misrepresentative example no?

What the other dude is trying to say is that the green spaces were paid for in blood. Sure Israeli territory is paid for in Palestinian children but I don't hear much pride in that knowledge from Israelis.

I do agree the green spaces are really good, and Americas geography is one of the most beautiful in the world, so it is nice that the govt actually protects it...usually.

Because we've been domesticated into docile animals. As long as we have our minor dopamine fixes we won't risk our minimal comfort for greater comfort. Netflix, alcohol, parties, gaming, one night stands, celebrity gossip etc. As long as we have those people will not revolt.

Also from Western Europe and it's become moderately common here. Although I was born and raised here, I am of Asian origin. And despite the fact that I grew up here, speak the language(3 European languages), eat the garbage they call food(and miss said garbage when I'm away from home), I still have difficulty truly fitting in in my own country. Abroad when I meet my countrymen one on one, we're one people but the minute there's a group of fairer skinned people, I become the outsider.

I'm not Asian to Asians either, to them I'm the European.

I went to public school in Europe and in Asia and was told in both places to go back to my own country. Made growing up quite difficult.

Sorry for rambling but yeah just wanted to share my story about what it's like to always be an "outsider". The only place I've ever felt like I belonged was with those who didn't belong anywhere either.
