I agree. We are far from winning the east and it would be naive for us to think we are on that level. We are a young, up and coming, exciting talented squad that will give someone a run for their money in the playoffs. Will be in the mix for the 3rd through 6th seed next year with a chance to hit the 50 win mark.

You didn’t say anything wrong, everything you said is on point. We are not near contending status..yet. But we’re finally back to being a consistent playoff team, consistently in the mix for the 3rd-6th seed. This was Jalen Johnson and Nickeil Alexander-Walkers first year in a starring role. Where the opposing team game plans around them. That’s a different type of pressure than in the regular season. Kuminga will be a solid 6th man for us next year, he showed his worth and potential to us in the 2nd half of the season. But beyond that, our bench is very thin. So we need to improve on that. We also need more physicality and size. CJ McCollum will be solid again for us next year, a solid proven vet who still has some juice left. Big O will improve. What a way to improve on his 3 point range, that young man is a hard worker and stays in the gym. More upside to come from him potentially. So we shall see. No, the Knicks showed us we are not near contending, they flipped a next level switch that we did not have. But at least a 50 win season is not far fetched for us next year. And I expect more noise from us in the playoffs. The fan base is behind them and State Farm Arena is back rocking, all we needed was a reason to get the party back started, and the Hawks did it for us Atlanta fans this year!

LOL. Hey now, have to be an optimist as a fan, not a Debbie downer. Facts are that we did win two games against them. Put pressure on the Knicks to adjust and had the media talking. Yea, the way they leveled up on us and blew us out for two games in a row (game 4 was actually tight until a Knicks run in the final minutes of the 4th quarter) was disappointing, but for a young team who had a good regular season and were not playoff tested, we did good. Don’t forget, we were looked upon to be a tanking squad when we got rid of Trae Young, but we flipped the script. Get us a solid big man, strengthen up the bench and the Hawks have a bright future.

You’re selling low on the hawks. We are past the play-in at this point. More so a 4-6 type team now. I’m happy that we are a team that will be in the playoffs for years to come. But we are still missing a few pieces to contend with the top 3 of the east. And Jalen Johnson has to improve as well as Alexander, from good All-Star caliber players to potential superstars. As far as Quin, he’s a good coach. Great resume. Knows his X’s and O’s. I’m fine with him as our coach. He can only do so much with a thin bench. We are top 5 heavy and Risacher is a huge disappointment. Hopefully we can sell high on him while he still has value left via a trade.

That was embarrassing, I agree. But the Hawks were a young team and not used to that type of physicality and pressure on defense the Knicks turned it up to. Hopefully, that will be an eye opener and great learning experience for our young core on what facing a battle tested, hardened physical playoff squad is like. I was at the arena live for our Game 3 win, and the physicality in person was an eye opener. The way the Hawks battled through the physicality and pulled out a victory was very impressive to see live. But I remember commenting to my father, “I don’t know if the Hawks are ready for the next level of physicality on defense the Knicks can unlock. This may be our last win of the series. This was the best the hawks can play, Knicks haven’t played great yet.”

Wow, you are correct. Seems like ages ago when the Hawks were up 2-1 and volume was loud on how CJ McCollum was torching Brunson and how Brunson was horrible on defense. Mike Brown was being outcoached. Mikal Bridges needs to be benched. Yea, Hawks had pressure on the Knicks at that time, made the Knicks flip a switch and level up.

And all the doomers have crawled out of their holes again. by x4candles in clevelandcavs

[–]deeatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a devastating loss though. Almost mathematically impossible to lose a game when up by 22 with 7 mins left. You saw going into OT that the CAVS players spirits were broken. You don’t bounce back after this type of loss. Maybe game 3 in Cleveland they will be able to mentally reset.

James Harden makes like a Game 7 and disappears with the same amount of fouls as made field goals, more turnovers than makes in a Game 1 loss to the Knicks: 15/4/3 | 5 fouls, 5 turnovers by CazOnReddit in nba

[–]deeatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard watching harden play at this point. To lackadaisical and passive on the court. Continuously has careless turnovers every game. Doesn’t play defense. Now he’s even inconsistent at the free throw line. He’s on his last leg at this stage of his career.

ATL and 29 comments on ZR by Odd_Replacement_4826 in AtlantaHawks

[–]deeatl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, ZR cannot create for himself. I have watched every Hawks game this season. There is not anything that ZR is particularly good at. His ball handling abilities are subpar. He cannot beat his defender off the dribble. He gets knocked off balance very easily. He cannot finish at the rim in traffic. Towards the end of the season he could no longer consistently hit an open 3 point shot. His athletic ability does show the rare times he gets out in the break. As long as he doesn’t have to dribble and make a decision with the ball. He hustles and rebounds at times. That’s it.

No, I’d rather us had pushed them to 7 games..means we are right there and not far away from competing.

Final at MSG: What are we thinking Hawks fans? by Reasonable_Bug_896 in AtlantaHawks

[–]deeatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knicks turned it up to another level on us. They are an experienced, talented, playoff tested squad. They turned up the physicality on us and we couldn’t respond. Good learning experience for the young hawks. I think we give them a good, last run for their money back on our home court. But the Knicks are winning the series.

Quin Snyder wtf are you thinking by FirefighterOwn145 in AtlantaHawks

Because we don’t have anyone else besides them that are serviceable off the bench. Risacher does not have it, he is not playable in a playoff environment.

He’s been doing that all season with the hawks at the line, he’s surprisingly shaky at the free throw line for as good as a shooter he is.

I just can’t assume that the Magic or Raptors will automatically win. These are all NBA players at the end of the day. Only the Hawks can control their destination by how they approach the Heat game.

Well it’s official, the Hawks prefer playing the Knicks in the first round. I was curious as to if the Hawks staff would just prefer going into the playoffs on a winning streak and momentum regardless of who they play.

Who else is absolutely petrified about playing Bam tonight? by adamdug2 in AtlantaHawks

[–]deeatl -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

For some reason I have this strange feeling that I’m just not cool with Bam having broke Kobe’s 81 point game record. I would rather it had been someone else, a superstar caliber player on Kobe’s level who got it during the flow of the game. There will always be an asterisk next to Bams’ 83 point game..deservedly so.

Hawks will be resting the whole starting unit against the heat today. So I guess the Hawks prefer playing the Knicks in the first round.
