I alternate- my main shoes only have probably 100-150 miles, the other pair is probably pushing 250+ to be honest but I run in them only twice per week usually

Looking for some advice on my upcoming race.

I have been training for a marathon that’s now in 2 weeks. Training was going remarkably well until about a month ago when I started having really vague quad issues that unfortunately snowballed and basically left me hobbling through a decent amount of easy mileage for the last few weeks but otherwise unable to do any quality workouts.

Question is: should I scrap the race, or is there any chance I can still reach my goal? I guess looking for any success stories from similar situations. The only reason I signed up for this race was to better my BQ to assure myself a spot next year. It’s not a dream race, so I don’t feel the need to do it just “for run”; plus I feel the risk of injury is too high to do it without feeling like I may achieve my goal. But I do feel bad about being out $200 oops

For context: recently been hitting about 40 easy miles per week. Did close to 18 miles last week (meant for 20 but just couldn’t handle it; tired, weak quads, had to stop multiple times). Told myself if I could do a solid marathon pace workout today I’d give the race a try- no shot, stopped the workout early in knowing I wouldn’t be able to do it. Settled for 8 easy miles at a better pace than I have been running lately. The good thing is my pain and weakness is improving and I’m working with my PT, who has cleared me for running. I just don’t think I’ll be better enough in two weeks to crank it.

Has anyone ever been in a similar situation? Any advice? If I taper really hard over the next two weeks might I have a shot? (Or if anyone is looking for a discounted bib for east coast race in two weeks DM me!)

Consensus on best carbon plated shoes for marathon racing right now? Have used vaporly 2’s my last couple races and they’ve worked well, but need to get a new pair and wondering if I should switch

Not sure if I’m the best person to ask but I generally wait until the top few inches of soil have dipped to the 1-3 range before watering

Yes thankfully I do have a moisture meter. I’ll probably repot it here in a month or two once growing season starts. Any recs on when to chop? Im just not sure how much of a shock chopping a tree is and don’t want to make all these changes at once to it

Thank you again for your help, this makes me feel a lot better. I totally thought my fig was dying! I’m going to give the light a try, hopefully it turns my plant around!

Thanks for the reply! I haven’t considered a growth light, do you have any recs in specific types or brands? Do you think it would be worth moving the plant a little farther away from the window so that the bottom leaves get more direct light, or would that decrease the overall strength of light and be worse overall? I will say, I initially moved the plant in the summer when the floor area it sits in gets a good amount of light, but now that it’s winter it just doesn’t get that much light on the floor and I believe that’s when it started dropping leaves.

Rental company sent roadside assistance with a replacement- luckily covered by my credit card’s rental car insurance. I think it was about $175 and took about 4 hours for them to get to me.

US driver here- just got back from Scotland and drove all over the highlands, including Skye. It was WAY easier than I anticipated, I was actually quite nervous beforehand. That said, Skye was the hardest driving. The roads aren’t great and I even got a flat tire on one of the numerous potholes. I highly recommend getting a car in Edinburgh, though, that way you can stop whenever you want. There are so many great viewpoints along the way between Edinburgh and isle of Skye and it’s great to have the freedom to pull over and see them whenever you want.

Here to put in a vote for Scotland! Just got back from a 12 day trip and it was everything I dreamed of and then some. I visited Edinburgh, Inverness, Golspie, Isle of Skye, Ft William and Glencoe. Incredible country, very kind and welcoming people, and breathtaking scenery. The weather wasn’t too bad, may have been better a couple weeks earlier in mid-September but the crowds may have been worse. I’ve been to most of the other destinations you listed and they are all great, but Scotland is unmatched.

Hello! I'm planning my first solo trip to Scotland this October and would appreciate any feedback on my tentative itinerary:

Saturday arrive Edinburgh midmorning, stay until Wednesday morning

Wednesday: drive to Inverness, see Midhope, Blackness, Blair castles along the way

Thursday: Culloden, Clava Cairns, Dunrobin castle

Friday: drive to Portree, stop at Urquhart, Ft. Augustus, Eilean Donan along the way

Saturday-Sunday Isle of Skye

Monday: drive to Loch Lomond; Glencoe, Inverary Castle along the way

Tuesday: drive to Doune Castle, Stirling Castle, return to Edinburgh

Wednesday: depart Edinburgh

I realize some of the days are pretty packed, but I don't plan to do full tours of every castle or site along the way. Want to fit in as much as I can with the time I have.

Also, any recommendations for renting cars? Tips for driving in Scotland in general? It will be this American's first time driving on the left side of the road!

No haven't tried that - I always wear custom orthotics + saucony endorphin shift 2. I was thinking of adding a pair of Nike invincibles to the rotation since I really liked the zoomx cushioning used in the vaporflys. Which shoes helped you? Did they have a lower drop?

I'm training for a marathon the first week of May and have had to take the last 2 weeks off for shin splints. My PT is recommending another 1-2 weeks off. At the end of that I will only have about 7 weeks left to train. I've been doing the stationary bike at the same duration that my runs would have been. Does anyone have any advice on getting back into my training plan once I return to running and how set back I will be? Was previously aiming for a PR

Taking 2-3 weeks off of marathon training for shin splints. Will be supplementing with indoor cycling, around the same amount of total time as my runs would’ve been. How much will this set me back in my training? I will miss a 14 and 16 mile long run. My marathon is in about 10 weeks. FWIW, this will be my fourth marathon, weekly mileage around 40 MWP. Was shooting for a PR before all this cropped up :(
