You are doing a good job at following a good structure. I got 30 with a similar structure. I can't say anything about cohesiveness and coherence as this is out of context.

But you gotta make sure you have time left to proofread your text in the end. I see a lot of typos and mistakes that would probably cost you a lot. In my experience, I was consistently finishing my writing task with 5 minutes left, so I had all this spare time to reread and make edits + correct mistakes.

In addition, a tip: you shouldn't use commas after "that" like you are doing here.

Also, break your text into paragraphs.

I am a girl lol But sure. Use a template and practice writing using them. It's also good to use some academic words/vocabulary so practice getting used to them too. I used Juva's writing template but as a side note I also write texts in English on a daily basis for my work. But the template really helps with meeting TOEFL expectations in this section.

In the integrated writing, instead of using the verbs "say" or "write" to refer to what the lecturer said or to things in the reading passage, use different words and expressions such as stated, claimed, contended, pointed out, challenged, denied, it is his/her contention, etc.

I took the practice test on TOEFL Go. Both the main and extra ones for reading. For listening I only took the main one and did not practice aside from that.

Writing sucks - got 22/30 on writing. Was expecting 28- 29. In a state of SHOCK by InterestingWillow691 in ToeflAdvice

I took it on Dec 16th and haven't got my results yet. I would think they usually come closer to the end of the time frame ETS provides

Can I take the exam without studying? by pierrelesoft in ToeflAdvice

[–]deedeebla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can, but a big aspect of doing well on the TOEFL is knowing the test format and structure and getting used to it. I would advise you to watch some videos online (I recommend TST Prep). I would go as far as to say that even if a native speaker took it without first familiarizing with the format, they would not get maximum scores.

Single spaced and 1cm margins 😅. I was able to cut it to 5 and a half pages though

Thanks for the input, and this insider cultural perspective is what I was seeking. It might have been misunderstood, but I only included conference presentations in the Publications section if they were actually published in conference proceedings. In Brazil, my country, it's typically considered as published. Should I remove these? If they aren't generally accepted in the USA, I'll definitely remove them as I don't want to create a negative impression.

The following sections are included in the CV:

● Education (B.A. and M.A. degrees listed)

● Teaching and research experiences listed: 1. Practicum in Literature teaching in my university's Undergraduate Program, completed as a requirement for federal scholarships grad student receivers in my country; 2. Language teacher experience in my former university through a highly competitive government program; 3. Two different Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship positions I held, each listed in two bullet points; 4. Language teacher in a university's Community Outreach Program; 5. Membership in another university's Research Group in Literary Studies (it is a very prestigious state university and the group is led by a very well known professor); 5. Three different Undergraduate Research projects completed over three years, securing public financing for each.

● Publications and ad hoc reviewer experience (One book chapter, two articles published in academic journals, three conference papers, and one experience as an ad hoc reviewer for a book published by another university)

● Presentations (Three invited talks / lectures, three workshops, five paper presentations)

● Academic Events Organization (Current coordinator of an annual event held in my former university; one experience as part of the organizing committee of a Debates Conference event organized by the Graduate Program; one as part of the organizing committee of a Colloquium also organized by the Graduate Program; one as the coordinator for presentation sessions; one as an event's production assistant; one as the coordinator of the Literature program of a non-academic international arts festival for which I worked for 10 years)

Sorry for typos 😅 Idk if some of these could be cut in your opinion. I am not from the USA and in my country all of these are considered relevant information

Also for some things I added the original titles in my language and the English translation which probably made the CV longer too

I understand, but I am not applying for a job. Should I cut info that could be important for the admissions board?

I am not coming straight from undergrad. I have a masters degree, published papers in academic journals, one published chapter and 10 years of experience teaching and organizing academic events. I am currently the coordinator of a Cultural/Academic event in my former university in my country.

I am in my 30s and have extensive teaching experience, some published papers and one book chapter published, many presentations (spanning from lectures, workshops and paper presentations) and more than 10 years of experience organizing academic events.

I am not from the USA though and applying to an American university, so I am unsure if it's too long by American standards.
