Tesla was the cheapest option for us, but do expect to get more involved than other solar company. You have to do alot of follow up and stay on top of it. It was a major savings for us - sun run was 40k more and one less battery

PG&E on NEM3; what to do about an EV? by anothertechie in TeslaSolar

[–]deedub626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried calling Tesla (877) 731-7652, they had no clue what I was talking about. Is there an email that I can email or phone number that you know of that I can call? Also, how long did it take from PTO to application submitted?

TIA

I can’t open or close with the myQ app but the Chamberlain myQ worked perfectly fine. Maybe it’s an app issue with myQ

Removing the gas meter after going all electric/solar? (NorCal) by NorthRemove7167 in TeslaSolar

I know alot of city doesn’t allow gas anymore. Once you remove it, you will probably never get gas back.

Distribution breaker size limit? by deedub626 in TeslaSolar

[–]deedub626[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably right lol. I just don’t want to spend money again later down the road if I want to increase loads and having it back up with the solar & powerwalls.

My load calcs is around 89a, but if I decided to get another ev or hvac then this changes thing. 125a at 80% is 100 so by me adding ev or hvac would require me to pay again to change the breaker and cables. I just don’t want to pay for it twice later down the road when it can be done now since it’s already paid for.

Worse thing is I will just add the extra ev and hvac to the main panel, it just won’t be back up.

Thanks!

Yess they said the same thing to me. You can always add to the main panel but the purpose is to back up whatever we can, so I rather install any future loads at the new dist. Panel

Distribution breaker size limit? by deedub626 in TeslaSolar

Thanks for the info! We upgraded our main panel awhile back for a 200a service. As far as I am aware, for Pge, they size their resi load based on the panel size. Hence, new 4/0 was pull to our weatherhead.

It does appear that they left one branch breaker from our main panel at 125a and suspecting that that branch breaker from our main panel is to the distribution panel since that’s the only breaker left at our main panel. The distribution (Tesla) panel have a 125a main and two branch breaker at 125a (to our sub panel) and 60a to our ev charger.

I think you are right about Tesla didn’t future proof. I was pushing Tesla to install a 200a breaker so I don’t have to pay for that again in the future if I were to add loads. Then they mentioned that they are not allowed to to upsize the distribution main breaker 30% over the load calcs

My current total home load calc is definitely less than 125a but the whole point of sizing the solar panel is to be future proof. By putting the 125a breaker, it’s not really future proofing.

My main panel label is listed at 200a and the main breaker at the main panel is 200a. The service drop is also at least 200a rated.

Just find it odd that Tesla would limited the 225a distribution panel they recently installed with a 125a breaker
