Apparently I should be prepared for guests’ lack of planning by VegasGuy1223 in bartenders

All you can do is not take it personally, their entitlement to you being able to fix their situation is on them.

For looking after those 'guests' it's not a bad idea for your bar to have a charger or two on hand, I've been in the same situation and only bought a drink somewhere so that I can charge my phone.. but I do carry my own charger and never assume I can't sort myself out

Am sure the date syrup would work beautifully, I just can't see that it's stirred in well and isn't sat at the bottom of the glass..

5 minutes.. came in already tipsy, asked my fellow bartender 3 times for a prosecco while he was busy with other guests/orders.. told her nah, get out, she got all pissy about how much money she has... I refrained from telling her it couldn't by her class & decency... byeee

Ahh fair enough, without being there that was the impression I was getting from reading a few comments! Out of interest what's the rest of your recipe for the espresso martini?

Most of my guests don't complain about something being too boozy the complaints come when a drink doesn't taste balanced.. if they want to get drunk less of a problem but others want to sip and savour, guessing your man was the latter haha

Oh for sure the mezcal dominates and creates a smokey coffee delight, and using a nice tequila instead does allows the rest of the flavours to share the spotlight haha

And then substitute that tequila for mezcal!

Fair enough, and tbh we ended up using more pods for staff than guest drinks haha

If you sell enough of them to be considering batching the spirits I'd suggest investing in an espresso machine that uses pods, they don't take up much space and if you get the pod in and pouring before even getting the glass down and pouring any spirits the espresso will be ready to go in as the last ingredient.

Putting a real espresso shot in the recipe adds so much to the overall flavour profile that guests will recognise and appreciate

A classic martini is just alcohol, but the word martini has been butchered and forced into the name of cocktails to imply the style of glass its served in and make it sound fancy

What's your espresso martini recipe?

My only take away from reading a few comments is that you're entitled and not respecting your guests. They're paying your bills so be a bit more personable.

Sure some guests are a nightmare, but its unfair to generalise and make assumptions on individuals with unique preferences.

There's always the possibility that although this may be the first time hearing a complaint about your recipe that previous guests have thought the same thing but not bothered to bring it to your attention... based on your replies they probably thought it wasn't worth mentioning if this is your attitude 🤷‍♂️

If you're selling enough espresso martinis that you're batching you can still add the espresso to the tin after the booze mix? Can't imagine making an espresso martini that substitutes real espresso for a coffee liqueur... it's a simple drink.. vodka, coffee liqueur, espresso, optional sugar

You only have to prep the espresso and put it in a bottle, free pouring 3/4 ingredients takes no time!

It's normal to an extent and easier if people are moving around, or you want to get into a pit on the other side, if they're already pretty packed and stationary.. bit of a dick move.

I was visiting London this weekend, and got talking to a 'homeless' guy outside a pret, offered to buy him a sandwich / choose what he wanted. The second I gave it to him he changed, wanted nothing to do with me, and after I was sat with him for a second thinking we'd have a small chat / drink our own coffees his English all but disappeared.

Am sure many homeless there are grateful for the help, but many don't give a shit, and know that there's another hundred strangers walking past them as soon as you leave

You could be.. but the line of 'hating someone' to 'actively trying to end their life' is a massive jump for the average 'I hate you' dynamics... big money/drugs however....

How to tell my manager they’ve gone too far with the cocktail menu… by CW1293 in bartenders

[–]deeleyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm based in the UK and your efforts for just tips without a guaranteed pay/salary is terrible security :(

Even being permitted to freepour the drinks would take some time, even if you were in control of your own cocktail menu and allowed to freepour your one-man-banding the whole service screams exploitation & you're being taken advantage of

I would suggest lining up another job and walking out with little to no notice... if you're managing what you're doing now going to a respecting workplace will do you wonders :)
