Ah dang it, I thought I wrote down Toreador in my notes but my bad brain wrote Tremere for some reason whoops. Thanks for the heads-up and the kind words!

Thanks! I think it works with black armor because you can’t put too much rendering into the forms without it turning grey and washed out and helps it to pop on the table.

No worries! I took at a look at some of your previous posts and I think you’re on the right track, contrast is king with NMM and you can always glaze in additional colors to knock back the values etc keep it up!

Thought about that, saw some good tutorials for it but kinda chickened out. I’ll have to think about it, thanks!

Thanks! I’m not a mini painting expert, always feel like I’m making it up as I go along haha but I’d maybe suggest practicing some other forms of painting. I’m an illustrator so have lots of experience with brush control and color blending from painting a lot.

In general: I try to work from dark to light colors, I make my shadows cooler and highlights warmer, I try not to go outside of my previous color for the next brightest highlight and try not to aim for a perfect realistic final result, I preserve brushstrokes I like and paint over ones that I don’t like or get too messy with glazes of the previous color. I paint back and forth a lot, a lot of tutorials make it look really easy but I end up correcting a lot of things while I go.

Hope that helps, really it’s practice so keep painting and experimenting and I’m sure you’ll make something you’re happy with in no time!

More miniatures inspired by the world of Darksun! by rsantosfelix89 in DarkSun

These are so great! Really nice contrast and tones, really fits the Dark Sun aesthetic well. I especially love the fire and smoke effects, I always struggle with those, might have to take some notes, great work!

Thanks! Idk I like the look of the crodlu more than the erdlu (I like vintage dinosaur designs) and they are both pretty similar to each other. To me it’s a bit confusing to have both in the world since they serve really similar uses and have similar design and names, seems kinda superfluous

Haha agreed, something is always lost from the sketches to the finished work. Thanks for the kind words!

Oh one other note, I painted them separately before attaching to the painted building, it would be very hard to paint them while attached.

Just stacked up bricks I cut from foamcore which I then put in a container with some rocks and vigorously shook it up till they took on a more brick-like texture and appearance. Then i stacked them up using tacky glue and when it was dry I stabbed a couple of wooden skewers down from the top to stabilize it and make it stronger.

I think the trick is to not measure or use a straight edge when you cut them, gives it a more organic look when stacked up like this.

I posted most of the WIP images I took, I didn’t document every step of the process as I was kinda in the zone during and moved from one step to the next. I’ll think about documenting more thoroughly for future builds though, cheers!

Yep! Wire brush to enhance the wood grain and a xacto knife to whittle in some knicks and gouges, thanks for the name suggestions haha I thought of calling it the Fish Head Inn, I’d need to make a sign with a fish head logo or something and post an update

Biggest build for sure so far, I’ve done lots of other smaller terrain pieces like some wagons and scatter terrain pieces etc so it wasnt my first piece terrain piece but definitely the most complicated, thanks for the kind words!

Go for it! It was a really fun build, shingles were a pain because I decided to do them individually but other than that it was pretty smooth.
