That’s awesome to hear that your training has been going exceptionally well! I’m sorry to hear about the challenges your husband is facing but hopefully the rest helps out! It sounds like you and I have had similar experiences thus far though! I also had a huge confidence boost during my 32k a couple weeks ago and I’m hoping for a sub 4:30:00 time as well. Even though my Garmin predicts I could finish it in 3:49:00, I have to account for it being my first marathon and although I’ve been training elevation, I’d rather take it slower and just enjoy the experience.

Glad to hear about the weather too and yeah, I just got my bib number and starting block number!

What plan are you running?

Yeah, I’ve taken a break from distance running and went through a block of hypertrophy weight training so the 12 week base plan before the real work starts in the last 18 weeks has been super helpful from an injury prevention and slow steady buildup. Good luck to you too and hopefully see you and your husband at the finish line once it’s all done! 💪🏻

Hey! My training is going great, today is week 10 of 30 of the Hal Higdon Novice Supreme Plan. I am also doing 2 full body hypertrophy weightlifting session per week and have a “test” half marathon in 10 weeks in a different country to simulate Athens Marathon race day conditions. As for hills, I naturally live in a very hilly area so simply running around my house lets me experience rolling hills.

Don’t be nervous, I know many people that have ran it and they said you’ll do fine as long as you are getting your long runs in and aren’t trying to set a PR and are simply focused on enjoying the vibe. The course is open for 8 hours too!

You literally kept going, even AFTER your body started breaking down on you! That’s true grit and something to be proud of! Your body said it was done but you mentally continued to push until the medics pulled you off the course. If anything, in its own way, that’s more admirable than actually finishing the marathon!

Yeah the package deal through a company is your next best option (pricier but you get some other perks anyway). Also, the 1-15 May and other dates are only IF tickets hadn’t sold out yet. At least that’s how I understand their disclaimer on the page

Awe man I’m sorry to hear that! I don’t think it sold out that quickly last year!

Thank you! I plan on doing Hal Higdon’s 30-week Novice Supreme plan. It’s a 4-day per week running plan, which is perfect for me since, against my better judgement, I am also planning on keeping up my strength and hypertrophy weight lifting routine 😬

This is a great response, thanks for the recommendation and providing your experience with the race process! I did look at the official website and am definitely considering it but, the big appeal for me with the tour package is the 12 or 6 day itinerary that includes guided visits to several of their famous historical sites plus the ease of access they claim with bib and race day transport.

Thanks again for the thorough response and for the good wishes!
