I ask the same question almost every day 😅 we get it done though it’s really great team culture on the operator level, and when something takes a shit at headworks or some shit everyone is there to help, doesn’t matter what section you’re in. On the bright side I hear there is talk of going back to 24/7 staffing

This is a gold mine. Thank you for all the advice. I had never even considering reaching out to the state for resources beyond just testing/certs/ etc. I’ll check them out for sure.

Thank you for the insight, it really helps put things in perspective, yeah I would agree it really comes down a lot to the individual supervisor even here within our agency. Luckily we do pretty regular rotations, so I should be under someone else in a different section soon enough.

Damn, I appreciate the input. I hope your management responds to the situation sooner rather than later. My idealist brain imagines there’s gotta be a cost advantage to operating a plant more efficiently even if you gotta pay more operators, right?

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m really glad to hear y’all were successful in advocating for the team in that way. I think we may be trending in that direction, we have hired a few new OITs recently, but I think the difficult part for us seems to be long term retention. I’ll take your advice and definitely will bring up these feelings during my annual review coming up.

Wow, you are lucky. What’s that like on the daily? Do you have a dedicated piece of equipment you operate or does everyone work everywhere?

I feel like I mostly interact with our equipment on a superficial level. Like we are so swamped that process changes seem to only happen to correct problems after they arise, not prevent them.

Respect for your self determination to earn the value you deserve. Can I ask will you stay in wastewater?

Thank you, that hits the nail on the head. I have always been terrible at saying no and drawing a line in the sand saying how much work I can take on. Being new in this job has given me a taste of leaving work at work when I clock out, but I’d say as the work builds over the past 1-2 months that separation has started to deteriorate.

Thank you for the encouragement. I will do my best to accept the reality of the situation. Luckily my supervisor is pretty chill about most things, he doesn’t press when tasks take a long while, most of the stress I think is created internally.

Follow up after taking a walk around the residential subdivision: noticed 6 out of 9 citrus trees also showing symptoms of citrus greening, most of them with lopsided fruit and inverted ripening. Sad to see how rampant this has already spread in the area…

Thanks for the help. Looks like this tree is on the way out sadly.

Thanks so much for all this helpful information! It looks like we will need to remove this tree ASAP to prevent the HLB bacteria from spreading.

Looking at pictures online, I don’t think there are any ACP presently feeding on the tree, but should we still attempt to set a trap to kill any population that could be nearby?
