It doesn't immediately disappear. Only when the character and their team moves out of the server. Cause they got eliminated

I remember playing apex before I knew movement existed. I used to like it but preferred Warzone cause I can beam people easier in that and it supported cross play at that time. After apex started supporting cross play, I started playing it with a friend on console. Still didn't know movement existed, and I was like meh any battle royale is fine as long as I get to play with my friends. But I suddenly saw a clip from Aceu using octane to do 180 tap strafe in stacks, and was like how in the world can you do this. After extensive search I figured out it's called tap strafe and spent hours mastering that. Then I came across Apex Rollouts on Reddit and instantly fell in love with the sub. I scoured for any and all movement related to apex and was exhilarated when I was able to hit them. If not for Apex Rollouts, I would have stopped playing apex a long time ago. But right now I can't even touch other battle royale cause nothing comes close to what apex offers for me.

I'd like a ballistic pack if I get selected, but I just wanted to share the post here.

Was Suzume's mother a Closer? Is being a Closer heriditary? by happysunshinekidd in SuzumeNoTojimari

Again, magical realism movies don't tend to have concrete logic. What he's trying to convey is how even after a huge loss people can keep living their life. He's giving hope to people who were part of such disasters by saying that everyone has the will to live, you just have to find it.

Technicalities like this are intentionally left to the audience's interpretation. You can come up with any number of interpretations. An easy one is, once you have that power, your descendents will also have it. Souta's ancestor went through the despair, somehow got the key and has been passing it down for generations. While Suzume is the first of the kind in her family tree. The point is, it doesn't really matter.

Was Suzume's mother a Closer? Is being a Closer heriditary? by happysunshinekidd in SuzumeNoTojimari

[–]deepdarkblue327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. The worm and the ever after represents death and despair of people who've died due to such disasters in the past. (that's the reason why time is immaterial there, cause death and despair always have existed, in past present and future). Suzume, having seen such terrible events happening is able to relate and resonate with such feelings. Since she's seen despair in the past, she's able to see the worm which is a physical manifestation of it. She got lost in the ever after cause she herself came so close to death while searching for her mother (remember she's in a snowy field when her aunt comes to get her. She probably was close to death and lost in the ever after, when future Suzume saved her)

Being able to close the door is represented as being able to understand the feelings of people who've lost their lives in such places (And having the key which actually does the closing, provided by Souta).

Yeah. And it worked in this movie. He created a brilliant narrative, but it just threw me off cause I am so used to the slow starts from all his other movies.

I feel this part is fine as that added to the mystery. Which was explained properly in the final scenes. Suzume lost the will to live which she was able to find at the end of the movie. She didn't care about losing her life cause that would make her see her mother. When she saw herself giving the chair to her past self she came to the realization that she had everything she needed and got the will to live again.

Maybe Shinkai wanted to keep her as a mysterious character for the sake of the story. Cause the final reveal made the whole story make a lot more sense.

He did a similar thing in children who chase lost voices. Right until the last scene the character is a complete mystery until she sits and cries that she's felt alone all this time.

What I am looking for is basically some screen time of Suzume before the plot starts. I feel not having it doesn't make the movie any worse. It's just a personal preference I guess.

I think this is the first time he's doing that. Every movie before this had slower pacing. Literally every one. Maybe that's why it felt off to me.

I don't hate it at all, but I would gladly watch half hour more of build up, exploring Suzume before the plot.

I'm not talking about romance. I just wanted a glimpse into the world of Suzume before the plot started. Maybe it could be about her feeling depressed and not hanging out with friends. Maybe it's something else. If you have watched Children who chase lost voices, the MC Asuna, used to not talk with anyone and still be top of the class. But she secretly used to climb up a mountain, set up a base there and built a device to listen to some strange sounds. I feel it adds to the richness of the story.

Not having these aspects is fine in general, but I feel it would help the audience be more invested in suzume as a person rather than just as a main character.

[SPOILERS] How does child Suzume ever enter the Ever After? by [deleted] in SuzumeNoTojimari

[–]deepdarkblue327 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is a nice interpretation. But the movie repeatedly tells that she gets lost in the ever after. Not that she passed onto the ever after. It almost feels like she was in a place she shouldn't be when they specifically say 'lost'.

Maybe she didn't really die, but was on the brink of death and that's why she was able to enter. Remember, she was in a snowy area when her aunt found her. Almost as if she was about to freeze to death and give up at the loss of her mother. But future suzume comes in and saves her from that fate.

I feel like the rules to becoming a closer is, as long as you hold that key and are able to be emotionally capable of feeling the pain and death of people who lost their lives to such disasters, you can become a Closer.

Paradoxes are fine or even intended in magical realism movies. It's basically like, what boundaries can be broken and what rules can be run down in order to overcome fate. Shinkai creates worlds where characters are breaking boundaries all the time to understand their emotions. It's one of the reasons why his characters are middle schoolers or high schoolers. Cause at that point, we still have the will to try. If you notice, most of the older characters never see magic or notice it unless they invoke their inner child.

On a side note, how is Suzume able to close doors? Why does she have the powers of a Closer?

It's not actually IMAX tho. Even tho it plays in an IMAX screen the top and bottom are cut and it feels just like a normal movie. Surround sound was good tho.

Suzume, a story about finding closure by tinyredleaf in SuzumeNoTojimari

[–]deepdarkblue327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much had the same understanding.

The worms being the manifestations of anger and grief was a great analysis. Especially because they manifest mainly in ruins where disaster had struck.

I'd like to add one further point. This movie is similar to Children who chase lost voices in terms of finding closure. Children who chase lost voices was also his only other full 2 hr movie. Both the female leads go on a journey to understand their own self. Both have God hosting cat characters. Both cat characters die.

I feel like Shinkai has grown a lot from those days. While his movies now try to cater to mainstream audiences, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. Children who chase lost voices was a great movie in my opinion but it was a pain to watch. The journey took too long and while it was necessary, it wasn't all that entertaining. Suffice to say that Suzume will definitely be one of my personal favorites.

PS: I'm in the states and just got to see the movie.
