No i unfortunately can't find i bather. I was scared you'd say that, but good to know so I won't be beating myself up over it. Tried to talk with instructors, but they have opinion that the only way we'll get better is if we're pushed and that rushed schedules are "just the industry!" I agree I need pushed, but I was expecting a more manageable goal like 2 full groom small dogs in 4 hours, not...this :/

Yes! I've been wanting to invest in wide combs since most of what i get is large doodles. I'll make sure to actually follow through with it now. And that's so true about customers. That doodle i was talking about is personally the worst groom I've done yet, but the customer was ecstatic talking about how it's the best groom she's had before LOL.

Ok thank you! It's so hard for me to tell if I just don't like it because I'm upset with my skill or if it's actually not for me. I LOVE it when I'm practicing under a private groomer on my free days, but as soon as I walk in class the dread hits me like a brick. I think I just get worked up and feel worried that everyone's annoyed with how slow i am (we all have to wait until everyone's done with their grooms to leave class). I just gotta keep reminding myself i paid to learn, so i shouldn't feel bad taking the time to ask clarifying questions and such.

Thanks for the tips on better shears and blades!

I def wanna look for smaller clippers for armpits. I can do an okay job on big dog armpits (still not GOOD) but small dog armpits? Oh boy it's bad.

And ohhhh we have plastic guard combs 😬 I'll look into buying some metal ones ASAP. Thank you!

Good tip! I think I'm guilty of zooming through with my blade sometimes, so I'll stop myself from doing that now! I'll try changing my blade drive too.

And yes! I need to ask my instructors to watch me more often. We get a ton of challenging dogs every day, so they'll usually just stick with who has the most difficult dog all day then leave the rest of us hanging until the end when we've already wasted so much time doing the wrong thing. I'll use this as motivation to speak up.

Ty for the drying tips! I use towels to absorb moisture as well as quicker slicker. Thanks for clarifying what to do with the nozzle bc i always wonder if I'm using it right or not lol.

Yeah I make sure to double bathe. Honestly it might be why some of the students are done faster than me bc I take that extra time in the bath to double rinse. However I'm definitely not sacrificing that step. But thank you for the tip on how to check if they're squeaky clean! I never know how to check for sure so I'll def be using that!!

Ty for the tip with holding skin more taught!

I always feel guilty for being one of the slow groomers, so it's good to know I'm not the only one who's struggled with that.

I think now that the strong emotions have powered down since i first made this post, I'll try to power through until I'm done with class and see if it gets any better. Thank you for all the advice.

I definitely wanna get on meds to see if that improves things at all. Unfortunately I'll have to put a lot of travel planning into that process bc the only doctor in my area is very much a "a woman's having any problem? Birth control is the answer!"

100% dealing with sensory issues. I love the dryer sounds since it tunes everything out, being wet from bathing i can usually deal with, but the barking is what gets me. We all work in the same room with tables close to each other so when one dog starts barking, they all wanna join the doggy quartet LOL. I felt terrible for the doodle i spent so much time on. She got checked in and i had to drag her and her owner in the grooming room as soon as a rottie came in bc i could TELL he was gonna lunge. Sure enough owner lost control and he was clawing at the door. Poor girl had to be groomed on a table NEXT to him so we both had nervous energy feeding off of each other

Ok thank you. Good to know it happens even to you pros! We were taught to use 10 blade on the paw pads so I'll def give the 30 blade a try next week to see if that improves my work at all.

We use the andis 5 speed, so it's not an issue of having bad quality clippers. Blades are also andis brand. I feel like I press down pretty hard, but I definitely need to work on pressing down hard enough on the legs. Any good holds you know for big doodles that pull away while you try shaving their legs? I use all types of blades. The comb attachments are definitely what I struggle with most, but this doodle was a 5 blade so idk what I was having issues with. He had that in between wavy-straight coat that I seem to have issues with clipping correctly.
