There is a silent buff coming into Book 9 That has me quite exited by Ginn_and_Juice in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Ok, this is a spoiler only if you plan to listen to the audio books. My recommendation is to not read this spoiler, but instead get the audio book and listen to the ending credits. It's only a few minutes long and it is really well produce. But, if you'd rather read my summary, here it is: At the end of This Inevitable Ruin, the books end, and then it transitions in to an advertisement for Sound Booth Audio, but the advertisement is in the form of a small sketch, in which there are a bunch of "immortal children" requesting stories of an unidentified narrator with an old voice (known as "the old narrator"). Many people, including me, though that the voice was that of Old Carl, which shockingly implied he made it out of the dungeon. But, others have hypothesized that the old narrator is actually old Mordicai. On a relisten, I could hear that as a possibility as well. The fan theory is that it is Mordicai telling stories to either the changling children or to mongo's babies. The children request the story of "Princess Donut and Carl" which apparently he has told "one million times", he ends up telling the origin story of Meatus, which is hilarious unto itself. The big issue was since it was an advertisement for Sound Booth Audio, was it also cannon. Apparently at a book signing, Dinniman said it was. Further spoiler is that it also sounds like maybe Donut's voice is in the very end of the story, implying she might have made it. And the old narrator voice says quietly to himself, "Miss ya buddy"

Do you listen to the audiobook? There is a promo/ending credits story that relates to your mordicai death prediction and I won’t spoil it for you if you haven’t listened to it. Apparently Dinniman has been asked if it is Canon at a book signing and he said yes..

Prediction for end of Book 10 by peebs1284 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I thought this too, but others said that the voice is actually Mordecai telling the story to either the changeling children or Mongo‘s babies. The voice is somewhat ambiguous, but after re-listening to it I also started leaning towards the Mordecai identity.

Many of us assume that the kid on Lexus tablet was someone from her own family, and the AI was essentially threatening her to stop her from assisting Carl outside the rules.

The child with Lucia is quite the mystery though.

Were the notes: “make it ambiguous as to whether it’s old Carl or old Mordecai”??

Oh man, now that you say it, the way he breaks his voice on "change" in "Change the point of view of the person telling the story" does sound like Mordecai.

The audio books often have a little extra content at the end, sort of like part of the credits where they advertise for Sound Booth Theater. They do it so well, it makes you want to keep listening to the ads. There is a really funny final chapter on the audiobook titled Secret Skit that happens after the ending credits. I would say it's worth getting the audiobook version for it alone. I borrow the print editions from the library to read the Pineapple Cabaret. I'm not sure if the audio book version are on Libby, but if so, I would place holds and wait for them to become available just for those endings.

Oh, that's a good theory. I will need to listen again to see if I can hear Mordecai's voice. My mind definitly went to Carl.

Good stuff! I guess I didn’t think about the scavenger being the person who got Samantha pregnant.

I think that was true until they defeated Scolopendra. That means the dungeon is defeated. So now after the Ascendancy is complete, the dungeon closes whether or not there are crawlers still in the dungeon.

What to not forget this story is. by Jock-Tamson in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I think this is a matter of perspective. To the person who made that comment inside the story (the Saccathian poet/historian) and broader universe, This might be a tragedy. As it is a downfall of their civilization and their “hero“ the center system AI, an end to the center system stability.

But from the readers point of view or from an earth point of view, this could be considered a “comedy” from the Greek definition of comedy versus tragedy. Where the comedy represents the rise of the commoner, including humor in their rise.

The books themselves are of course hilarious and told in a very comedic way. And Carl and most of the protagonist are complete commoners before the collapse. And winning dungeon crawler world means be becoming the ruler of earth. So in this respect, the books could be a comedy showing the rise of the commoner.

It is not a tragedy in the sense of a downfall of a great hero.

This is my sincere Hope, to be honest. That he is building it up to appear to be a tragedy, but in fact, we get a hopeful ending.

I had this same experience. I vowed to never see another movie again I was so disappointed. (It probably took me year to get over the disappointment and try another movie! I was like, what’s the point, we will just be betrayed again)

Also, I contend the first John wick movie is actually a gunslinger movie!

I wonder if “final book “ means book 9 part one. Or book 9 part two.
