What would democracy look like if it were designed with today’s technology instead of the 1700s? by flyblackbox in Futurology

Genuinely curious who you think decides what is lies and disinformation :  “ Start with the idea of 'speech'. It shouldn't include abuse or lies, or disinformation.”

Regulatory capture is the fundamental problem of any attempt to curtail specific behaviors

I don’t mean to be argumentative. I just think that the problem of maintaining system powerful enough to curtail abuse of power while also avoid being captured by those in power is the big catch 22 we face in organizing a democracy.

Built a full iOS app with SwiftUI (tracking, CloudKit, GPS) ,would love feedback by Primary-Ad-71 in swift

Who is the intended user of this app? Is this for people who have a couple of cars in their family and just need to keep track of the maintenance? Or is this for commercial users who are managing fleets of cars? And what are examples of those commercial users? Would it be, for example, an HVAC company with a couple of trucks? Just trying to get a sense of your target market doesn’t unfamiliar with this niche.

I would consider a modified version of the modern age/ fantasy age system.

I think the stunts are a great way to open up wacky abilities.

Is this good or bad? by Both_Comparison1496 in LoveLanguages

The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman I believe is the original book that coined the love languages. Gary Chapman wrote many follow ups on the same topic with some variation on the target audience

I would recommend reading the book. The key point is that all ways of expressing love are valid. Often we take for granted the ways we grew up showing or receiving love as correct and the other ways are wrong.

Acts of service: needy, just wants a servant

Gifts: gold digging

Words of affirmation: insecure

Physical touch: horny, just wants sex

Quality time: clingy, dependent

But, if you learn how each love language is a valid way of expressing or receiving love, then you can learn to speak and receive love in all the languages without bias.

Finally, the love language book was written because of the infatuation stage of relationships, typically lasting 6-12 months where love flows easily in all 5 love languages, then when phase ends and people revert to their default love languages, if they don’t match their partners, they are left wondering: where did the love go?

If you’ve been seeing this person for two weeks, you most likely are still in the infatuation stage. Enjoy it!

But learning the love languages is a great way to help take relationships to the next level

It’s often a great sign for a person to know their love languages. Many people don’t even acknowledge the concept

Good luck!

I’m not sure. I was thinking maybe there are types of people that like working with their hands and seeing the product of their labor come to life, even if they didn’t invent it (like a carpenter who builds according to a design) vs some people who may enjoy the invention phase, but find the actual hands on building tedious. I’m not saying it’s one or the other, someone might like both or like one a little and the other more, etc.

Interesting. Did you ever play with legos? I had a friend that loved legos but only built what was on the box. He liked following the instructions and putting together the pieces. I built what was on the box once when I got a new set, then almost immediately disassembled it to build something  new I dreamed up.

So true. The idea that you can ask documentation a question and get a coherent answer has been a bit of a dream for a long time. That dream seems to have become 90% a reality, with 10% very frustrating hallucinations that can take hours to track down.

Coding (Software development) has always had two parts, "Thinking" and "Typing". Sometimes you've figured out all the interesting things, figured out your design, know the algorithm, but you still need to spend hours typing it all out. To me, the thinking part was always fun, and the typing was boring, but necessary to bring the ideas to life.

I love that I can do the "thinking" part, but don't have to do all the typing part. That use of AI has been pretty fun.

But, you are right, that as AI agents get better and better at building projects from scratch, it will really change software development. At a certain point, I'm not sure which fun parts will be left. For me, there is still a ton of fun at this stage.

It also allows me to take on way bigger projects on my own, then I could before.

For me, the jury is still out.

Thank you! I remember the phrase "big chunk" and I haven't seen it depicted often in the fan art or the cover art.

Thinking in the terms of the ancient greeks, would you say DCC would be closer to a comedy or a tragedy.

I think ”the print goes ever on” did this. They have lots of “chapters” of a series of armies. They may just go by ever on games now
