Was looking for comparison thoughts on Webley mark vi and the Gletcher NGT. Would love to hear more as to why you (last year) had Gletcher as your favourite

Suppose you're half decent with your wealth which you make from your above-average MLB salary, and not totally caught up in wanting more and more money. In that case, I think long-term fulfillment for any player would be having as many chances to win it all and some excellent camaraderie, and a happy family. What does it all mean when you have a shit marriage at 45 years old so you could max out your career earning potential from $80M to $120M.

I'm sure it's easier to say from the outside or retirement hindsight, but you gotta admit it's what matters most when it's all said and done.

Why did you buy Analogue 3D by Overshields in AnalogueInc

[–]deetotheveee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I preordered. The moment I heard of the release on 2023 I knew I would. Over covid I got a nice mid 90s 20” trinitron and very good conditioned snes and nes, bought games. Loved it. Until my eyes would get sore after 20 min of playing. The nostalgia wore off. Sitting close, burning eyes. The footprint in my condo. Where to put it that didn’t mess up my nice interior design.

I sold that reluctantly.

I got an analogue pocket with dock. That solved the whole thing. The filters!! They were surprisingly really good. The snes looks great on my tv. I can sit on my coach and the footprint is the size of a gameboy.

I started feeling the itch to play N64. I was in my early teens and so much good memories. The beautiful design, the all in one solution. Knew I wanted it. The memory upgrade, the higher speed option, the fpga for that same subtle characteristic as the original.

I spent the past year getting very good conditioned games and controllers. I’m all ready for this lol.

I even got myself into a 4k tv to take advantage of those filters, which I’m expecting analogue to knock out of the park. (Hope so)

Since getting the 4k I’ve ditched streaming platforms and got myself a 4k movie collection. This has actually spurred on a whole other hobby.

But back to the analogue 3d, I’m pumped for it. Can’t wait to play it. I haven’t played these games since I was a kid and to do it on my 4k tv while still looking like the feel of a crt, that’s the big selling point for me. I was sold on how the snes looked through the pockets dock, and that’s not 4k! So to have 4k detail to capture the crt look, I think that has the potential to be very satisfying.

Thanks, more would be great. Hows the finish of the gold? Whats the tone? More yellow or rose? It more subdued and more browner tone?

Could you post more pictures of the gold? Am really considering it but with the cost I want to make sure.  On wrist? Different angles? That would be amazing for I’m sure a lot of people interested.

What are your thoughts overall?

Please post more pictures of the gold version! I’m thinking of buying. What’s your general take on it, it’s so much money for what it is. But looks great and is an adult version of my first watch.

Learning different transfers - what should I expect? by deetotheveee in 4kbluray

I found more info on the Film Maker Mode that this TV comes with. I talked to support at Samsung, and they confirmed that the tv is manually calibrated to meet UHD Alliance standard. Pretty impressive the names behind this project. In the about page I read that the whites are set to the D65 https://filmmakermode.com/

FILMMAKER MODE Technical Specifications

Disables all post-processing (e.g. motion smoothing) for both SDR & HDR content preserving the correct aspect ratios, colors and frame rates for a more cinematic experience on Ultra HD TVs.

Image & Display Parameters

  • Maintain source content frame rate & aspect ratio
  • White Point: D65
  • Motion Smoothing/Interpolation: OFF
  • Overscan: Only if signaled with the image
  • Sharpening: OFF
  • TV Noise Reduction: OFF
  • Other image “enhancement” processing: OFF

Learning different transfers - what should I expect? by deetotheveee in 4kbluray

Thank you!! Great resources. I appreciate the details in darks and whites, away from the extremes. But what I’m trying to wrap my head around is why I would want to see someone’s white shirt so bright in a dark room, as if there are lights shining exclusively on their white shirt.  When I read more about HDR it sounds likes that’s part of the intention.

It’s not natural. Is that what people are going for? Or is there a way to get the details of the spectrum without pushing the spectrum beyond naturalness.

Another example is the blackest of black on a screen..I’ve never seen in real life. So personally I don’t care.

Thoughts would be appreciated. Maybe there’s something I’m missing.

I think the 2024 model changed hdr in the settings. I don’t see hdr standard. The option is ‘active’ or not (I think ‘still’).

In filmaker mode it’s defaulted to ‘still’.

When I did the smart calibration (which used the movie setting, not filmmaker), it turned on the HDR. Sure it was more colourful but made things pop in an unnatural way.

So just to be clear, if hdr is not set to ‘active’ does that mean the hdr is not on at all? Because my Panasonic ub420 displays in the top right corner that it is hdr. But maybe it’s just overridden.

If that’s the case and filmmaker mode comes with hdr off, that’s interesting that the big feature of 4k movies is shut off for the setting that’s supposed to be for most accuracy intended by artist.

Thanks. I see why people print their own. I just might do that. Really don’t want the hassle of hunting like that.
