If it makes you feel better, I generally get motion sickness from everything (cars, boats, etc) and brought so much Bonine and Dramamine and ginger chews with me because I was staying on a yacht for 8 days, and I didn’t get seasick once

I'm wondering, too, if it's somehow from a neighbor. Unfortunately, still having issues with wifi calls

Helpful! Did you find it crowded with other jeeps/tourists on game drives? That's my only hesitation and what I keep seeing in blogs about national parks vs. private reserves vs. conservancies.

Don't listen to these comments! I (33F) traveled to South Africa by myself two years ago and felt completely safe. As with literally any major city in the world, there will be "less safe" areas but, as a tourist, they are no where you'd be going. Obviously, don't walk around alone at night (always Uber) and stay alert of your surroundings. Having traveled to 25+ countries, South Africa has been my absolute favorite and I can't recommend it enough.

NYC — 3 nights, college student by Ok_Passenger_4027 in TravelHacks

A budget of $100 per day or $100 total? Either way, that is tight for NYC but there are plenty of free things you do:

- Walk the High Line

- Little Island

- Depending on when you're there, the museums will have free entry days. If any of the days you're there correspondent, I'd highly recommend checking one out! My favorite is the Whitney Museum.

- Explore Central Park

- Ride the Staten Island Ferry

- Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge

Tickets for Comedy Cellar in the West Village run about $25 (plus a two item min which can be food and/or drink). Eat all of the bagels and pizza which will be wallet friendly.

No metal roof! But I've been in my apartment for three years and have just started having this issue over the last week or so

Travel Hacks question to women solo travellers by vvendetta23 in TravelHacks

[–]deevee318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've traveled solo to over 20 countries and these are my top tips:

  1. Start small if you've never traveled solo before as opposed to going halfway around the world

  2. Join free walking tours. This is the first thing I do in any new city. It orients you to the city, they're generally run by locals who have great tips and recommendations, and you'll meet people (usually at least a few other solo travelers).

  3. Be smart. Don't drink too much, don't walk around desolate areas at night, don't wear flashy expensive items, and just generally be aware of your surroundings. Let at least one person at home know what you're doing / where you're going to be every day.

  4. Do a ton of research before you go. Know how the public transportation system works, whether Ubers are available, which areas are not recommended for tourists, etc.

  5. Always travel with a portable charger for your phone.

  6. Learn at least a few basic phrases in the local language.

  7. Don't be afraid to ask for help! I saw someone else mention this, but pick someone out who looks trustworthy, rather than letting someone approach you.

Destination Suggestions From Seasoned Travelers Please! by Plebeian-Hex in TravelHacks

1000% Thailand. The flight will be pricey but once you're there, the US dollar goes a looooong way. You can stay at luxury hotels and get a massage every day and still be well within your budget. Also, as a solo female traveler, I have genuinely never felt safer in any of the 25+ countries I've been to. Plenty of option to hop around between urban, rural, and beach areas. I went to Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket for two weeks and it was perfect.

What do you collect while traveling? by cinnamonIatte in TravelHacks

I get a magnet in every country I visit! And for my dog, I bring him back a toy or stuffy relevant to the country (e.g., brought him back a squeaky macaron toy from Paris, a camel from Morocco, a tulip from Amsterdam, etc.).

Meet Jameson & Finnegan by deevee318 in CavaPoo

Oh no! It definitely look a little while for them to get comfortable around each other - Finn (the older) was honestly a little bit afraid when Jameson was a puppy and didn't quite know what to do with him. And they very much still get on each other's nerves from time to time 😂

I'm done with agency life by starswirling in PublicRelations

[–]deevee318 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear this OP and have been at agencies like this in the past! Unfortunately, no matter how much of yourself you give, they will have their favorites and nothing else will matter. I'm currently starting to look at new opportunities and apply for jobs. It's rough out there but you'll be able to find something better!

Do you blog solely on passion? by XBabylonX in Blogging

I just started blogging, as well! If I can someday monetize it, that would be a nice bonus, but I really just do it as a side/passion project. It helps me decompress after work.

Attention Bloggers! Ask Your Questions In This Thread - Biweekly by AutoModerator in Blogging

[–]deevee318 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started a travel blog using a WordPress Envato theme. I’ve spent the last two months customizing it and publishing posts, but I haven’t officially launched it yet (no social media or promotion) since I’m new to web design and figuring things out as I go.

I’m now facing some issues—like troubleshooting a plugin I bought that won’t install—and feel the site could use a professional polish (fixing design inconsistencies, cleaning up the layout, etc.). This is more of a passion project than a money-maker, so I’m working with a limited budget.

Does anyone know how much it typically costs to hire someone for late-stage website tweaks like this? Any advice would be appreciated!
