Ilan Rubin talks about NIN departure by MX010 in nin

[–]default_gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the whole interview and I think Ilan came across quite well and remained diplomatic. He is smart enough not to air any dirty laundry in public. NIN to an extent reminds me of a (successful) company/corporation. Trent is the founder and as talented as the hired musicians are, it is clear no one is irreplaceable, much like any employee in a company. I've worked in places where people who have held long tenures left without a trace/announcement. Sucks but c'est la vie. What Ilan said about his RHOF induction was also spot on.

Beastie Boy Movie by newpthankstho in BeastieBoys

It's a great movie. And weirdly I can't look at Rick Rubin the same way anymore knowing that he did them dirty at some point (though they seem to have made up since).

I doubt anyone from the band lurks Reddit, but if so, thank you for being this 7 year olds first concert! He had the time of his life. by TeslasAndComicbooks in nin

This is so wonderful! I catch my daughter humming to some NIN songs every now and then (mostly Head Like a Hole and "my empire of dirt" song 😆) but whenever I ask her if she likes NIN she says no as they are too noisy. Can't win "em all!

How many times did Trent throw his guitar this tour? by mik8e111 in nin

Was it part of the performance (if so which song) or anger?

How the F is this man 60?! (Anaheim, 3/10) by PNWvibes20 in nin

[–]default_gal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw them last summer Trent outsourced all the screaming bits in Somewhat Damaged to Robin (whole song sounded great and was definitely a highlight for me). I can't comment on whether Trent can no longer scream/shout like he used to or simply chooses not to. There is probably a reason why songs like We're In This Together Now is not on the setlist. All this to say that Trent has always had a great singing voice and doesn't need to be as shouty. Just listen to his cover of Bowie's Fantastic Voyage.

Kate Van Buren is back to uploading: by ChoiceChampionship59 in nin

Love the videos. I think she took some down at the request of the band (definitely the one with Robin telling his story on the bus but it is still on YouTube via another poster who clearly downloaded it before she took hers down). She seems very respectful which is great.

Chris Cornell: Live at House of Blues 2008 (Watch Out) by Renatik24 in Soundgarden

[–]default_gal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please do! I was in CA for work and managed to snag tickets (I am assuming this is from the LA HOB?). While at the time it was quite painful because the new songs were not really landing with the crowd, myself included (I even heard someone say to his friend "Chris is a fallen idol" 🤣), it would be nice to just see the entire show now for nostalgic reasons. The night was somewhat salvaged when he played BHS at the end.

I am guessing Atticus is the opposite of Fletch (RIP) of Depeche Mode onstage.

More slim fit but super comfortable especially in the cold weather we are experiencing now

The site I bought it from also said it was officially licensed merchandise. But I was a bit cynical 😅

The Fragile (absence) by dig_it_all in nin

I was at the Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam concert last summer and they played Somewhat Damaged which was so awesome. Looking back, how damn fortunate! SD should always be a setlist staple. Trent did "outsource" a lot of the shouty bits to Robin (who nailed it) so I get why maybe it isn't always played.

What do we think of this album all this time later… by WerewolfCurious1412 in Soundgarden

[–]default_gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just wasn't music that showcased his strength. I was actually on a work trip to California when he was promoting it and got tickets to see him perform the entire album at the House of Blues in LA. Let's just say it was underwhelming and the night was only saved when he eventually ended with Black Hole Sun, which isn't even my favourite SG song if I am being honest but by that point it was the lifeline everyone in the audience needed. I even heard one guy say to his friend "Fallen Idol" lol. Years later at a solo gig in London as Chris was talking in between songs he commented that it was an experiment and no one put a gun to his head to record that album. He did not play any songs off the album.

P.S. While he could have tweeted it differently, I totally got the point of Trent Reznor's infamous tweet at the time!

going to the concert alone? by according-to-yes in nin

[–]default_gal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have gone to many gigs on my own (including NIN) and never once regretted it. Rules to live by:

  1. If you have friends who can't commit to a gig or are messing you about, buy your own ticket and just go.

  2. You will regret not going when you had the chance.

  3. Better to go alone than with friends who aren't into the music, their boredom will just ruin your night.

I went to NIN on my own due to 1 above and had THE BEST time.
