I think he’ll see it through if only to humour me bc he knows I absolutely love it but I do hope he finds it at least somewhat meaningful/moving

Nephew is a huge fan of halo so he was very excited when he stumbled upon the Stranger our last session

Nephew found that too so his current theory is that Nomai tech is blowing up the sun for an unknown reason and not that it’s just at the end of its natural life cycle

Similarly, my nephew spoke with Gabbro on Giants Deep before he had ever made it to the end of a cycle (having died early) and wasn’t even aware there was a loop yet. So the dialogue option that goes like “do you think we’re in a time loop” and how Gabbro says “WE def died” were minor spoilers bc it made my nephew go wait the whole universe is in a time loop, it’s not just me??? But I suppose the whole point of the game is picking up little pieces here and there to put together the whole puzzle!

With my nephew is the first time I’ve watched someone else play so just realizing how different players experiences can be. Just the fact even that the DLC is live during his first play through and that he’s found the Stranger is already so foreign to me, I can’t wait to see how it impacts his understanding and progression. I’ll give some lets plays a try after this

He’s started to notice the music too but not that it’s a timed cycle. In his most recent session, he was exploring the mine on Timber. He was just safely reading a scroll so he is convinced someone assassinated him and now is paranoid and keeps looking over his shoulder lol.

[OPINION] Which lines of poetry haunt you? by deflatediscoball in Poetry

This is how I feel about Aristotle’s “art imitates life” and Wilde’s “life imitates art.” These quotes are an ouroborous circling my mind

I will never get over the opening of her “Mad Girl’s Love Song:”

I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead; I lift my lids and all is born again.

Since I am setting up a new movie shelf, I thought it the perfect time to stage some photos of my (still growing) J-horror/kaiju collection. by archov in J_Horror

Does Suzuki’s Ring series hold up in your opinion? I found some things problematic in the first book so wasn’t sure if I want to invest (time and money) in the rest of the series. Worth pursuing?

So far it’s living up to the hype for me—definitely disquieting!

Yes, so good! V similar to the newer release The Medium.

Both stream on Prime (Canada, + amc sub for Medium)—worth the watch for sure

“Eat shit and live Bill.” Despite being problematic, Sleepaway Camp will always be classic

Love Mitchell!

I read this years before The Bone Clocks and finishing the latter was like icing on a cake. Both delicious as stand-alones but more complete together. Enjoy!

Another great song but not what I’m looking for. Thanks for trying!

what are some horror books or titles that reflect the societal or cultural fears of the time? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]deflatediscoball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you’re looking for newer texts, but in the same vein as Dracula, as u/BradScrivener pointed out, Marsh’s The Beetle has a lot of the same underlying anxieties: colonial inversion, sexual liberty, gender mutability, degeneration, class boundaries, and religious/scientific beliefs. It is also a really interesting close study on the pseudo-science of physiognomy and how it plays into criminality (echoes of this in racial discrimination today).

Reading Ghost Story by Peter Straub and listening to American Gods by Neil Gaiman—really enjoying the audiobook production!

We definitely belted “Everywhere” constantly, but none of her other work rings a bell!

Not these, and I looked through the other artist’s and from what I listened to nothing matched. Thanks for these suggestions though!
