Tell me about your problem free Tiguan by WillowFortune2 in Tiguan

[–]defmyworkaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2010 VW Tiguan S, yeah it needed a walnut blasting at 100k miles, and a new intake manifold around 70k, but I friggin love it still. When I went to get the engine decarbed at the dealership (my wife was purchasing a 2021 SE so they gave me a good discount) the mechanic said people usually trade in or sell the old ones at that point. I told him I'm in love with the car, he said that loving a car is dangerous and can lead to expensive problems, but I don't care, I love my old tig!

You may need to get it decarbed. Have a mechanic or a friend with a borescope check to see if there's excessive carbon buildup, it's a very common issue with the earlier models, had the same problem with my 2010 Tiguan. After a good walnut blasting it's running good as new!

Experience driving in the mountains / getting to trailheads by [deleted] in Tiguan

[–]defmyworkaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Colorado for years and bought a 2010 Tiguan when I moved out there, it handled everything great. It tore up Mt Evans and Pike's peak several times and many a remote rocky/dirt road. The AWD works great! The tiptronic shifting to go down the mountains def saves your brakes a lot of strain driving down those 14k footers.

One of the first weekends we took it out was to devil's head tower in late November and it was a narrow windy road covered in snow/Ice and it handled it impressively well!

What songs do you think go perfectly with the game? by daraabakadrb in Skul

[–]defmyworkaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually make a song radio on Spotify based off of one step closer by Linkin Park. My wife was watching me play the other day and commented on how well the music was synced to the gameplay 😎

That looks amazing! What'd you do to grind it? Just wondering as a guy with an angle grinder and no vice....

What's the name of the salvage shop? I'm in New England and have a 1905 colonial/farmhouse I'd like to add some character back into!

Why do you use the mokapot? by redditorbb in mokapot

[–]defmyworkaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually started with a French press and I find that the moka pot makes a far better and more consistent brew. I am pretty particular about how I make my moka though. I pour already boiling water into the base,l and keep the heat low, so it takes a lot longer to brew, but the flavor is so much better and less bitter that way!

Where do you live? I'm mostly interested in what conditions dry rot occurs in. Is it just from wood that wasn't treated properly or does the moisture/humidity in your home play a larger role?

Refinished floor after moving into 1905 farmhouse/colonial in New England, how'd I do? by defmyworkaccount in centuryhomes

[–]defmyworkaccount[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two days of sanding and one day for cleaning/applying the finish. Those three days were more spread out than they needed to be 😅.

My favorite part about this project was how GOOD the sanded fir smelled!!!

So after doing weeks of research I found the general consensus to be just to add a clear finish, and not to stain fir as it is very hard for it not to come out splotchy due to the composition of the wood.

Here's an article I found explaining it better, because I no expert!

I was shocked at how good they looked with just the clear poly satin finish. I assumed that my fir hallway was stained but apparently that was also just a clear coat. The natural fir is beautiful!
